If Free Fire started hanging on a permanent loading screen after an update, try Garena’s patch-specific display workaround first: set Graphics to Smooth, High FPS to Normal, and Auto Scale to Off. For other loading failures, check the connection, then work through the device-specific steps below; the right fix depends on whether the game is stuck, reporting a network error, or crashing.
1. Try Garena’s workaround for a post-update loading screen
Garena identifies a rare client issue after patch updates that can leave Free Fire loading permanently or show a “Free Fire is not responding” error. For that specific symptom, open the game’s display settings and use these values:
- Graphics: Smooth
- High FPS: Normal
- Auto Scale: Off
This is a targeted workaround for the post-patch client issue, not a guaranteed fix for every loading problem. Garena’s client-crash notice describes the symptom and settings.
2. Check whether the connection is causing the failure
If Free Fire reports a poor network connection or fails while contacting a server, test the connection before changing game or device settings. Garena says an unstable connection can cause connection errors.

- Close Free Fire before changing networks.
- Try a stable Wi-Fi connection, then compare it with mobile data, or switch the other way if you are already using Wi-Fi.
- Check that the mobile signal is strong and close other apps before reopening the game.
- If the message is “Error occurred when connecting to server,” log out through Settings > Basic > Log Out, then sign in again.

3. Android: restart, clear cache, and check storage
Garena’s general crash guidance includes these Android maintenance steps. Menu names can differ between Android versions and device makers, so use your phone’s app settings if the labels do not match exactly.

- Restart the device. Reopen Free Fire after the phone has restarted.
- Clear the game’s cache. Open Android’s app settings, select Free Fire, and clear its cache. Force-stop the app, then launch it again.
- Free up storage. If the device is low on space, remove or move files and apps you do not need.
- Check for system updates. Install any available device software update, then try the game again.
- Reinstall only if simpler steps fail. Remove and reinstall Free Fire as a later troubleshooting step.
Garena also mentions a factory reset as a last resort. A reset erases device data, so do not try it early; back up important files before considering it. See Garena’s crash troubleshooting steps.
4. Check device compatibility carefully
Garena Free Fire Support published the following requirements on December 6, 2021. They are historical published figures, not verified current compatibility requirements. Garena also notes that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee smooth performance.

Choose the customer-service team for your region. Garena’s guidance is in its bug-report article and regional customer-service information.
Should you use a booster or cleaner app?
Do not treat third-party booster or cleaner apps as a proven fix for Free Fire loading failures. Garena cautions that apps promoted as lag fixes may provide little or no benefit. Garena’s crash guidance discusses this limitation.
