A September 21, 2026 report says community Proton fork dw-Proton 11.0-13 fixes a NIKKE ACE error that followed a game update. That report is specific to the ACE error; it does not establish a fix for every kind of crash.
Start with the symptom, not a blanket fix
Note the exact error text and when the failure occurs. Record whether NIKKE reaches its launcher, login screen, or gameplay, and whether the Deck itself becomes unresponsive. Also note whether the problem began after a NIKKE, SteamOS, or Proton update. These distinctions matter: the recent dw-Proton report concerns an ACE error, while community documentation describes other setup-dependent issues, including video playback and launcher or update complications.
- ACE or anti-cheat error: The symptom most closely matches the dw-Proton 11.0-13 report below.
- Launcher closes or fails to update: This is not established as the same issue as the reported ACE error.
- Crash after login or video playback failure: Community notes describe some such issues, but workarounds can depend on the setup and are not guaranteed.
- Steam Deck freezes or Steam itself is unstable: Begin with Valve’s general system troubleshooting rather than assuming NIKKE’s ACE issue is responsible.
No reliable published figure establishes how often NIKKE crashes on Steam Deck or how often a particular workaround succeeds.
Try Valve’s basic Steam Deck troubleshooting first
Valve recommends applying available system updates, restarting the Deck, and exiting or disabling third-party applications when troubleshooting instability. Desktop Mode tools can be relevant when testing a game, so close unrelated apps before retesting.

- Install any available SteamOS updates, then restart the Steam Deck.
- Close or disable third-party applications, including apps running in Desktop Mode, and launch NIKKE again.
- Check whether the failure has changed. If the Deck still crashes, keep the exact symptom and error text for the next step.
For Steam-app issues, Valve also suggests checking the game’s compatibility information and trying a Proton compatibility tool where appropriate. Its guidance includes: “Try choosing the latest version of Proton.” Valve’s Steam Deck troubleshooting guide has the general instructions.
If NIKKE shows an ACE error, try dw-Proton 11.0-13
Steam Deck HQ reported on September 21, 2026 that dw-Proton 11.0-13 includes a fix for a NIKKE ACE error that appeared after a game update. The report describes dw-Proton as a community Proton fork and recommends installing it with ProtonPlus from the Discover Store in Steam Deck Desktop Mode. This is secondary reporting, not an official Valve or NIKKE support notice, and it does not guarantee success.
- Switch the Deck to Desktop Mode and open the Discover Store.
- Install and open ProtonPlus, then use it to install dw-Proton 11.0-13.
- Return to Gaming Mode, open NIKKE’s page in the Steam Library, and open Properties > Compatibility.
- Enable the option to force a specific compatibility tool and select dw-Proton 11.0-13, then launch the game to check whether the ACE error is resolved.
Steam’s compatibility setting applies a selected Proton tool to that game. If the listed version is unavailable or the menu labels differ, do not assume another build has the same NIKKE-specific change; the report identifies dw-Proton 11.0-13.
If the crash is not an ACE error
Do not treat the reported dw-Proton change as a general NIKKE crash fix. The community NIKKE Linux known-issues guide discusses issues such as video playback and launcher or update complications, while warning that suggested solutions may be untested or not guaranteed. Its guidance is community documentation, not official support.

If changing the compatibility tool does not help, return to the original setup and troubleshoot the matching symptom rather than stacking unrelated workarounds. A launcher exit, post-login crash, video failure, and full system freeze may have different causes; the available sources do not identify the cause of an individual crash.

Valve explains that Deck Verified labels distinguish games that work well by default, games that may need manual configuration, games not currently considered playable, and games Valve has not checked. The reviewed information does not establish NIKKE’s current Deck Verified rating.

Likewise, the official NIKKE news page includes current game notices, but the reviewed page does not confirm a Steam Deck or Proton crash fix. The dw-Proton report should therefore be treated as a community-reported workaround, not a publisher-endorsed solution.

- For a NIKKE-specific problem that persists after basic troubleshooting, use the game’s support channels. Include the Deck’s SteamOS and Proton versions, the exact error, where the failure occurs, and any recent game or system update.
