If Hunt: Showdown crashes on your PC, the right next step depends on when it fails: at startup, during a match, while streaming, or after an update. There is no single fix established for every crash. Note the exact error and your game version first, then use the crash pattern to narrow down what to check.
Record what happens before changing settings
Write down whether the crash occurs before the main menu, during a match, while streaming, or only after a recent update. Copy the full error message if one appears, and note your current game version. A Steam player described their issue as a “game crash after new update,” but that timing alone does not establish that an update caused it: Steam Community discussion.
Crytek has addressed startup crashes, gameplay crashes or freezes, streaming-related crashes, and slowdowns associated with VRAM behavior in separate developer updates. These patterns are useful clues, not proof of a specific cause or a guarantee that an older fix applies to the current build. Crytek’s news index shows that updates continued into 2026, so check the current Hunt: Showdown news and patch notes for a relevant announcement before treating a past issue as active or resolved.
Check that your PC meets the published requirements
Steam’s current listing gives these PC requirements. They are a baseline to compare against, not a diagnosis of a crash.

Source for the listed figures: Steam system requirements, current listing checked in 2026. If your hardware is below the minimum, that is a reason to investigate compatibility; it does not prove that a particular component caused the crash. Steam recommends an SSD for the experience, but does not say that one fixes crashes.
If the problem is a slowdown or stutter rather than a crash
Crytek’s December 9, 2024 guidance concerned certain performance drops associated with VRAM behavior. The Hunt team said: “While the default setting of 80 works for most systems, reducing it to 70 may help mitigate performance drops on affected machines.” That is dated advice for affected performance issues, not a universal crash fix.

- Close other GPU-intensive applications and see whether the slowdown changes.
- If the symptom matches a performance drop, try lowering the game’s VRAM usage target from 80 to 70, as Crytek advised in its December 9, 2024 developer insight.
- Check whether the problem is actually a slowdown or freeze, rather than assuming this setting addresses a crash that closes the game.
Crytek’s current and upcoming bug fixes update also documents distinct crash and gameplay issues, reinforcing that advice should match the symptom and version.

A GPU upgrade is not a general crash remedy supported by these sources. Consider hardware changes only if your system falls below the published minimum requirements, and do not treat an SSD purchase as a crash fix.
