Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf your VALORANT ping is high or keeps spiking, first check your connection at home: confirm Wi-Fi is enabled or Ethernet is securely plugged in, then try a wired connection if you are on unstable Wi-Fi. If the problem remains, work through Riot’s network checks one at a time. They can help identify local connection problems, but none is a guaranteed way to lower ping.
Why is my VALORANT ping so high?
Ping is the time it takes for data to travel between your device and the game server. A high reading or sudden spike can be associated with your local connection, but a troubleshooting guide alone cannot establish whether a particular case comes from Wi-Fi, ISP routing, congestion, packet loss, or a Riot server-side issue. Riot’s support article covers general network checks rather than a complete method for separating those causes. Riot Games Support’s network connection troubleshooting guide, published 18 January 2022 in Polish localization, is the basis for the steps below.
How to troubleshoot VALORANT ping spikes
-
Check the connection and try Ethernet
Confirm that Wi-Fi is on and that you are connected to the intended network with the correct SSID and password. If you use Ethernet, check that the cable is firmly connected at both ends. If you are playing over Wi-Fi and the connection seems unstable, test with a wired connection. Ethernet is a useful comparison, not a promise of lower ping in every setup. Riot recommends trying wired connectivity when Wi-Fi is problematic.
-
Test without a VPN or proxy
If you use a VPN or proxy, temporarily disable it and see whether the symptom changes. Riot’s guide suggests testing without these services because they may contribute to connection problems. This is a diagnostic comparison, not evidence that every VPN causes high ping.

Check whether the problem affects other internet use
Notice whether other devices or online activities are also having trouble. If they are, that is useful context when you contact your internet provider; it does not by itself identify the cause. Compare what happens in VALORANT on Wi-Fi and, if available, on Ethernet, and note whether the spikes continue.

Try Riot’s Windows and network checks
Riot’s article lists Windows network troubleshooting, switching to a public DNS resolver, renewing the IP address and flushing DNS, checking firewall behavior, and considering router port forwarding if connecting to Riot servers is difficult. These are potential troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed latency fixes. The article is dated and its Windows-specific paths may differ by Windows version, so follow the current labels on your system and consult Riot’s guide for the detailed procedure.

Will changing DNS reduce VALORANT ping?
Not necessarily. Riot’s guide gives Google Public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1) as examples of public resolvers. Changing DNS is a connection troubleshooting option; the guide does not establish that either resolver will lower in-game ping. Riot also notes that some internet providers may block third-party DNS. If you lose access after changing the setting, revert to your previous DNS configuration.

If the connection checks do not resolve the issue, submit a ticket to Riot Support, as its guide recommends. Include whether you use Wi-Fi or Ethernet, whether disabling a VPN or proxy changed anything, whether other internet use is affected, and which checks you tried. These observations can help describe the problem, but they do not prove whether the remaining cause is your ISP’s route, congestion, packet loss, or a Riot-side issue.
