If Free Fire shows high ping, first compare the game’s ping on Wi-Fi and mobile data, then reduce network congestion and refresh your existing connection. Garena’s 2022 guidance says 150 ms or below is ideal. If ping is already at or below that level but the game still stutters, investigate phone or game performance instead of treating it as a network-latency problem.
Check whether high ping is causing the problem
Ping measures how long it takes for data to travel between your device and the game server, in milliseconds. Lower is better. Garena’s April 28, 2022 Connection Issues guidance states that “150ms and below is the ideal ping” for Free Fire. The same article says players’ average ping is around 250 ms; that is Garena’s reported figure in 2022, not a current independently measured benchmark.
Check the ping shown in Free Fire while you are experiencing the problem. High or fluctuating ping alongside delayed actions or disconnections points toward the connection. If the ping is 150 ms or below and the game still lags, Garena says the problem is not the connection and directs players to device-focused troubleshooting.
Compare Wi-Fi and mobile data where you play
Neither Wi-Fi nor mobile data is automatically better for every player. Test both at your usual playing location and compare the in-game ping and stability. Garena recommends switching connections to see which works better for you.

- On Wi-Fi: Check that the phone shows a strong Wi-Fi connection. If the signal is weak, move closer to the router and test again.
- On mobile data: Check cellular signal strength. Garena’s 2022 poor-network error guidance names a strong 4G or LTE connection as a troubleshooting check; the available network options depend on your location, carrier, and device.
Garena’s Poor network connection error guidance recommends checking signal and trying the other connection type. Judge by the ping and stability you actually get, not by a general claim that one connection is always faster.
Reduce network competition and refresh the connection
Garena lists unstable internet, other devices sharing Wi-Fi, background apps, and active downloads as possible reasons for high ping. Video streaming and large file downloads can compete for the same home connection.

- Pause downloads and close apps that are using the internet in the background.
- If you are on shared Wi-Fi, ask others to pause bandwidth-heavy streaming or downloads while you test the game.
- Restart your phone, then reconnect and check the in-game ping.
- If the problem is on home Wi-Fi, restart your existing router: unplug it, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, and wait for its lights to return before testing Free Fire.
These steps can help identify or clear a temporary problem; they are not guaranteed fixes. Garena’s High Ping troubleshooting guide includes the router restart procedure.
If ping is low but Free Fire still lags
When ping is at or below 150 ms but play remains choppy, check phone and game performance. Garena’s Game Lag troubleshooting guidance recommends checking Android compatibility, lowering graphics quality, updating the system, clearing temporary cache, and closing background apps.

- Reduce the game’s graphics quality and see whether performance improves.
- Close other open apps to free device resources.
- Check that the device meets the game’s compatibility requirements and that its system software is up to date.
- Clear temporary cache using the device’s available settings, taking care not to delete game data unless you intend to.
Garena cautions that apps claiming to fix lag or improve phone performance may provide little help. Start with the built-in checks rather than assuming a separate “booster” app will solve the problem.

If the connection remains poor across apps or a speed test also reports high ping, contact your internet service provider or mobile carrier. Give them the test result and explain whether the issue happens on Wi-Fi, mobile data, or both. Garena’s 2022 connection reporting instructions ask players to include a screenshot of the speed test and the ISP name—or the mobile carrier name when using mobile data—when submitting a connection report.

The same reporting article said connection-issue support updates were expected every five working days. That was guidance published in 2022; support response timing can change, so treat it as historical rather than a guaranteed current service level.
