There is no confirmed universal fix for Tomb Raider I-III Remastered crashes, freezes, or startup failures in the latest official patch notes. First check whether your platform has the latest game update and identify when the problem occurs. If it persists, report it to Aspyr Support; Aspyr said in April 2026 that crashes were among the issues it was reviewing.
Start with your platform and the point of failure
Note whether the game crashes on startup, freezes during play, or crashes after loading a save. Also record your platform and the game version shown by the platform or game. These details help distinguish a general launch problem from a level, save, or progression issue when you report it.
- Crashes on startup: check for an available game update on your platform, then note whether the game closes immediately or reaches a menu first.
- Freezes while playing: write down the level and what was happening immediately before the freeze.
- Crashes after loading a save: note which save and level are affected, and whether another save behaves differently.
These are useful diagnostic details, not confirmed workarounds. The official notes do not provide a step-by-step fix for general startup crashes or freezes.
Check the latest update—and what it does not claim to fix
Aspyr’s latest retrieved update is Challenge Mode Patch 4, published October 6, 2026. Aspyr says it is available for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, PC, iOS, and Android. Its listed fixes address level access and progression, translations, and movement blockers. It does not list a general crash, freeze, or startup fix.

Earlier patches also cover specific issues rather than establishing a universal remedy. The May 1, 2026 Challenge Mode Patch 2 lists graphics, photo-mode, and audio corrections, plus PC fixes for New Game+ saves and Challenge Mode unlocks. Aspyr’s April 1, 2026 Patch 1 notice says the first patch addressed high-priority issues and that the team was reviewing crashes, save-game bugs, AI, and inventory issues. Aspyr Joe, the article’s named author, wrote: “We are actively reviewing game crashes, save game bugs, AI, and inventory issues.” That statement records issues under review at that time; it does not confirm that a particular crash has since been fixed.
Aspyr’s older November 4, 2024 Update 4 notes document fixes including console FMV stuttering and subtitles disappearing before voiceover ended. Those historical fixes do not establish a solution for current general crashing.

PC: compare your system with Steam’s minimum requirements
For the PC edition, Steam lists these minimum specifications on its store page. They are a compatibility check, not a guarantee of stable operation or a crash diagnosis.
| Requirement | Steam-listed minimum |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 7 or later; 64-bit processor and operating system required |
| Processor | Intel i3 3240 or AMD FX 4100 |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GT730 or AMD R7 240 |
| DirectX | Version 12 |
| Storage | 5 GB available space |
Steam separately notes that its client supports Windows 10 and later as of January 1, 2024. That client requirement is distinct from the game’s listed minimum operating system. Steam’s listing does not document a known crash workaround.

Console and mobile: check the game update, then report persistent failures
Patch 4’s coverage includes PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android, but the retrieved official notes do not give a current platform-specific crash or startup checklist. Check the relevant platform’s game update information. If the problem remains, send the details to Aspyr rather than assuming a device-specific setting will fix it.
