If Lords of the Fallen keeps closing, freezing, or crashing to the dashboard on Xbox Series X|S, start by fully quitting the game and checking for updates. Then restart the console; if needed, try a full power cycle, check ventilation, and reinstall the game only after the simpler steps fail. These are low-risk troubleshooting checks, not guaranteed fixes: the official game FAQ does not identify a current Xbox crash bug or publish a game-specific crash procedure.
First, identify what the crash looks like
Before changing anything, note whether the game closes to the dashboard, freezes, or causes the console itself to shut down. Record when it happens—at launch, during a loading screen, in gameplay, or in co-op—and whether it occurs every time or only occasionally. Also note whether the problem began after a game or system update. These details can help support investigate, but they do not by themselves establish a cause.

Individual players have described crashes during loading screens and sudden crashes, but those reports are anecdotes, not evidence of a widespread defect or a confirmed fix. The official Lords of the Fallen FAQ lists Xbox Series X|S as a platform for the 2023 game but does not document an Xbox-specific crash cause or remedy.
Try these troubleshooting steps in order
1. Fully quit the game and check for updates
- Open the Xbox guide, highlight Lords of the Fallen, and choose the option to quit the game. Then launch it again.
- Check the console’s game update queue and install any available update for the game.
- Check for Xbox system updates and install any available update before testing again.
This is a sensible first check, not a fix specifically published by CI Games for this game.

2. Restart the Xbox
Use the console’s restart option, then launch the game again. A normal restart is the easier next step before disconnecting power.
3. Power cycle the console if the crash continues
Square Enix’s general Xbox crash guidance recommends a full power cycle for crashes in its own games. The following is generic console troubleshooting context, not a Lords of the Fallen procedure issued by CI Games:

- Unplug the power cable and wait at least 10 seconds.
- Reconnect the cable, start the console, and test the game.
This procedure briefly disconnects the console from power; it is not an instruction to delete local or cloud saves.
4. Check the console’s ventilation
Make sure the Xbox has unobstructed airflow and is not enclosed or pressed against a heat source. Square Enix’s general guidance recommends placing the console in a well-ventilated area. A game crash alone does not prove that the console is overheating.

5. Reinstall the game only if simpler checks fail
Reinstalling takes longer and may require a large download, so leave it until after quitting, updating, restarting, and checking airflow. If you own the digital version, reinstall it from your library; if you own a disc, use the disc to reinstall. The general reinstall advice comes from Square Enix’s support article for its own games, and neither that article nor the Lords of the Fallen FAQ guarantees that reinstalling will resolve this issue.
