Trouble across games points toward the console or home network; trouble limited to Make Way may be tied to the game, a particular session, or a route between players. The steps below help narrow it down without assuming the Xbox or game is at fault.
First, identify where the lag happens
Xbox lists Make Way as supporting online multiplayer for two to six players, cross-platform multiplayer, and Xbox Series X|S optimization. Those features confirm online play is intended, but do not guarantee uninterrupted sessions or establish a performance threshold. See the Xbox product listing.

- Several online games lag: start with the Xbox connection and home network.
- Only Make Way lags: check for current game-specific notices and compare sessions before changing router settings.
- Only one friend’s session is affected: try another session if possible; the issue may be associated with that connection path or session, but this pattern alone does not identify the cause.
- You cannot join or host: investigate connectivity and NAT separately from lag during a match.
Microsoft explains that latency or insufficient bandwidth can result in lag or dropped connections in multiplayer generally. That describes possible network causes; it is not a diagnosis of Make Way or your connection. Microsoft’s multiplayer concepts overview also discusses quality-of-service measurement between players, but does not recommend a particular console or router setting as a fix for this game.

Work through these network checks
1. Check for a service or game notice
Look at Xbox service status and the game’s publisher or developer communications for a current outage or known issue. No current Make Way outage or Xbox-specific known issue is established here, so do not infer service status from the symptoms alone.

2. Run the Xbox network test and note the results
Use the network test in Xbox settings and record any displayed latency, packet loss, or NAT result. If you change one thing, test again under similar conditions so you can compare. There is no verified Make Way-specific minimum speed, latency target, or packet-loss threshold to apply.
3. Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet
If feasible, connect the Xbox to the router with Ethernet and try a similar online session. If play improves, Wi-Fi conditions may be contributing; the comparison does not prove that every lag source is fixed. 4. Reduce competing network activity and restart equipment
As a low-risk test, pause large downloads or other heavy network use in the household, then restart the router and console and try again. These are general troubleshooting steps cited in guidance for a different game, not a confirmed Make Way-specific remedy. Change one factor at a time where practical so you can tell whether it made a difference.
When NAT matters—and when not to change it
NAT can affect the ability to connect with other players, so it is more relevant when you cannot join or host than when you are already playing but see stuttering. If the Xbox network test reports a NAT issue, consult your router maker or internet provider before changing router configuration. Rockstar’s connection guide also discusses NAT and network settings for Xbox, but its port instructions are specific to GTA Online; do not reuse them for Make Way. Do not open ports or change NAT simply because a match lags. The available evidence does not establish NAT as the cause of Make Way gameplay lag, nor does it establish the game’s network architecture or port requirements.
Be cautious with Xbox QoS packet tagging
QoS packet tagging is not a universal lag switch. Microsoft says tagging can help reduce the effects of congestion only on networks that prioritize tagged traffic; some devices or managed network setups can also cause connection problems when tagging is enabled. Unless you know your network supports it and have a specific reason to test it, changing this setting is not a first-line fix. See Microsoft’s QoS packet-tagging documentation.

If only Make Way is affected
If other online games work normally, the symptoms alone cannot establish whether the cause is a game issue, a particular session or player route, or a local configuration that affects this title differently. Check current communications from Ice BEAM, the developer, and Secret Mode, the publisher, using channels you can verify. The Xbox listing identifies both companies, but no current Make Way-specific support route or troubleshooting article is established here.

- Xbox Series X or Series S and the game version;
- the time and region where the issue occurred;
- whether cross-platform play was involved;
- whether it happens in every session or only with one friend;
- whether the symptom is in-match lag, inability to join, or disconnection;
- the Xbox network-test results and whether Ethernet changed the behavior.
