If Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 keeps crashing on PS5, start by updating the game and console, restarting the PS5, and restoring the game’s license. If it still crashes, reinstall the game, then try the PS5 Safe Mode cache or database options. These general PlayStation steps may help with console or installation problems, but they cannot guarantee a fix for a game defect.
First, identify when the crash happens
Note whether the game closes during launch, while loading into the Press Start screen, when opening or hovering over Career activities, or during a flight. That detail can help distinguish a console or installation issue from a repeatable game-specific problem.
- Record the game’s installed build and the PS5 system software version.
- Write down any error code and the steps that reliably trigger the crash.
- Check Microsoft’s latest PS5 release notes for a fix matching the crash point and installed build.
Try the low-risk fixes first
Update and restart
Install available updates for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and PS5 system software, then restart the console and try the same activity again. PlayStation recommends restarting the console and checking system software when a game will not start: PlayStation game-start troubleshooting.
Restore the game license
On PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. PlayStation says restoring licenses does not affect data and may help when a game crashes. It is a general account/game access step, not a guaranteed fix for a software bug. See PlayStation’s license restoration instructions.

- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
- Clear System Software Cache: PlayStation says this may help with system feature issues or performance drops.
- Rebuild Database: This scans the drive and recreates its content database.
Follow PlayStation’s instructions for entering Safe Mode and choosing these options: PS5 Safe Mode options. They are general console maintenance steps, not Microsoft Flight Simulator-specific fixes. Avoid a factory reset as an early troubleshooting step; it can erase stored data and is not part of the initial guidance cited here.

In its January 6, 2026 Sim Update 4 notes (build 1.6.36.0), Microsoft listed fixes for a possible Career Mode crash when hovering over activities and a random GPU crash during the transition from the loading screen to the Press Start screen: Microsoft Flight Simulator release notes. Those are specific historical fixes, not a complete list of possible causes.

On May 8, 2026, the Microsoft Flight Simulator Team said it was monitoring reports of stability and non-functional avionics issues on PS5 and Xbox after Sim Update 5, and that Asobo was working on an update: Microsoft Flight Simulator. The available official information does not establish whether a later update resolved every reported issue. Check the current notes against your installed build rather than assuming the old report explains a present-day crash.
