Minecraft error code Crossbow is a Bedrock Edition sign-in or Microsoft-account error. It usually means the game could not complete account authentication, not that your world or console hardware is damaged. Fully close Minecraft, retry with the Microsoft account that owns the game, use the platform’s displayed code-login flow where applicable, and then check network and Xbox privacy permissions. If that account also fails to sign in outside Minecraft, recover it with Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper before contacting Minecraft Support.
The sequence below separates Minecraft-only problems from account-wide failures and gives platform-specific instructions for Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, and Kindle Fire.

What “Crossbow” means in Minecraft
Crossbow is a named error used by Minecraft Bedrock when the sign-in or account-linking process does not finish correctly. It is unrelated to the craftable crossbow weapon in the game. Mojang’s issue tracker has recorded resolved Crossbow incidents, including issue MCPE-159743, and directs affected players to Minecraft’s official MCErrorCodes troubleshooting flow. Minecraft Help places named errors alongside its general Bedrock error, network-connection, and account guidance.
Bedrock uses a Microsoft account for purchases, Realms, multiplayer identity, and other cross-device content. Minecraft’s account guide says that since 25 July 2022, all players need a Microsoft account to play every version of Minecraft. A free Microsoft account can carry purchases, Realms, and other Minecraft content between your Minecraft devices, but the account must be the one associated with the game and the intended Xbox gamertag.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Before changing anything: identify the failure
Crossbow can look the same in several situations. Identifying which one you have prevents you from creating extra accounts or repeatedly unlinking the correct one.
| What you observe | Most likely area | Best next action |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft alone shows Crossbow; other Microsoft services work | Bedrock session, cached identity, or platform sign-in handoff | Close Minecraft completely, sign out in the game or platform app, and sign in again with the intended account |
| The displayed gamertag is not yours | Wrong Microsoft/Xbox account selected on the device | Sign out and choose the different-account option or sign in through the Xbox app on Windows |
| Sign-in fails in Minecraft and in Microsoft services | Password, username, verification, lock, or account-recognition problem | Use Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper, then retry Minecraft after account access is restored |
| A child or teen account can sign in but cannot join online play | Xbox privacy permissions for Multiplayer or Clubs | Have the parent or organizer review those permissions in Xbox privacy settings |
| Only one console or phone fails while another device works | Device session, platform linking, or local network state | Use that platform’s code flow, restart the device, and verify the account shown on that device |
Do not repeatedly create, merge, or link new Microsoft accounts while diagnosing the error. Doing so can make ownership, purchases, and the intended gamertag harder to identify.
Fix Crossbow in the safest order
1. Close Minecraft and restart the session
- Save any local work, then quit Minecraft rather than leaving it suspended.
- Reopen the game and select the sign-in option again.
- If the device has been running for a long time, perform a full device restart and retry.
This first step clears a stalled game session without changing account ownership or deleting saved worlds. A restart is also useful after you sign out of another app, because Bedrock may need to receive the refreshed Xbox identity.
2. Confirm the Microsoft account and Xbox gamertag
Check the email address and Xbox gamertag shown during sign-in. Use the Microsoft account that owns the game or the account intended to play on that device. A family member’s account, an old address, or a second account already stored on the console can produce a Crossbow loop even when the password is correct.
Sign out of Minecraft, then sign back in deliberately. On Windows, Minecraft’s guidance is to sign out and back in through the Xbox app, then restart Minecraft so it picks up the correct gamertag. If the Xbox app displays the wrong identity, correct that identity first rather than repeatedly entering codes in Minecraft.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
3. Complete the official device-code sign-in flow
PlayStation and Nintendo Switch use a browser-assisted code process. In Minecraft, choose Sign in with a Microsoft Account. The game displays a web address and a short code. On a phone or computer, open the displayed address, enter the code exactly as shown, and complete Microsoft sign-in with the intended account. Return to the game only after the browser confirms the link.
Do not substitute a different account in the browser because it is already signed in there. If the browser opens the wrong Microsoft identity, sign out in that browser or use a private window, then repeat the displayed code with the account that owns the game or has the intended gamertag. The code belongs to that sign-in attempt; generate a new one if it expires or the game returns to the sign-in screen.
4. Correct the account on Android, iOS, or Kindle Fire
- Open Minecraft and go to the Profile screen.
- Sign out of the Microsoft account shown there.
- Close Minecraft completely and reopen it.
- Choose Sign in with a different account if the displayed Xbox identity is not the one you need.
- Complete sign-in and check that the expected gamertag appears before joining a server or Realm.
Mobile devices can retain a previous account selection even after the app has been closed once. The explicit sign-out and different-account options are therefore preferable to repeatedly tapping the same sign-in button.
Platform-specific checks
Windows 10 and Windows 11
- Open the Xbox app and verify the signed-in Microsoft account and gamertag.
- Sign out of the Xbox app if it is the wrong account, then sign in with the intended one.
- Close and restart Minecraft so it reads the updated Xbox identity.
- If Crossbow remains, test the same Microsoft account in a browser or another Microsoft service. A failure there points to account recovery rather than a Minecraft installation problem.
Windows Minecraft sign-in depends on the Xbox identity presented to the game. Changing only a browser account while leaving the Xbox app on the old gamertag will not correct the game’s identity.
Xbox consoles
Verify that the Xbox profile currently active on the console is the Microsoft account you intend to use for Minecraft. If multiple people use the console, sign out the unintended profile and launch Minecraft from the correct one. Restart the console after changing the profile, then try the sign-in again. If the account cannot authenticate in other Microsoft or Xbox services, move to account recovery instead of reinstalling Minecraft.

PlayStation
- Launch Minecraft and select Sign in with a Microsoft Account.
- Record the short code displayed by the game.
- On another device, open the exact web address shown on the PlayStation screen.
- Enter the code and sign in to the intended Microsoft account.
- Wait for the confirmation, return to Minecraft, and verify the gamertag.
If the wrong account is offered automatically, sign out of Microsoft in the browser or use a private browsing window before entering a newly generated code.

Nintendo Switch
- Choose Sign in with a Microsoft Account in Minecraft.
- Open the displayed address on a phone or computer.
- Enter the short code shown on the Switch.
- Complete sign-in with the Microsoft account that should be linked to Minecraft.
- Return to the Switch after confirmation and check the displayed Xbox identity.
Generating a fresh code after an abandoned attempt avoids using a code tied to an earlier browser session.
Android, iPhone, iPad, and Kindle Fire
Use Minecraft’s Profile screen to sign out, close and reopen the app, and select Sign in with a different account when necessary. Confirm the gamertag before testing multiplayer. This procedure addresses a wrong cached identity; it cannot restore an account whose password or verification process fails everywhere.
Check the connection and online permissions
After confirming the account, follow Minecraft’s general Bedrock network-error guidance. Check that the device is actually online, retry after a complete restart, and test Minecraft again before changing account links. If another device on the same network can sign in, the problem is more likely local to the failing device or its platform session; if every device fails with the same account, investigate the account itself.
For child or teen accounts, a parent or family organizer may need to allow Multiplayer and Clubs in Xbox privacy settings. Those permissions govern online play. A blocked permission can prevent joining online features even when the Microsoft password and the Minecraft purchase are valid.

Permission changes should be made on the organizing adult’s account, then allow time for the console or app to receive the updated policy. Restart Minecraft after the change and test again. Do not solve a permission problem by switching to an unrelated adult account, because that can place the game on the wrong gamertag and obscure the original issue.
When the Microsoft account itself will not sign in
Try the same email address or phone number outside Minecraft. If Microsoft sign-in fails there too, Minecraft is reporting the symptom rather than causing it. Microsoft says its Sign-in Helper can identify many account sign-in problems and provide next steps.
- Open Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper.
- Enter the email address or phone number associated with the account.
- Follow the instructions for a forgotten password, unknown username, missing verification code, or account the service does not recognize.
- Complete recovery and confirm that you can sign in successfully outside Minecraft.
- Return to Minecraft, sign out if necessary, and sign in with the recovered account.
Recovery may require information only the account holder can provide. Avoid creating a replacement account while recovery is in progress: a new account will not automatically inherit the original game purchase, Realms, worlds, or gamertag.

If the account signs in normally elsewhere, the error is confined to the game or platform handoff. Repeat the platform-specific sign-out and code steps once with a fresh session. Check that the game is using the intended edition and profile, and verify that the account shown after sign-in is the expected Xbox gamertag.

A resolved issue in Mojang’s tracker demonstrates that Crossbow incidents can be service-side or defect-related as well as local. There is no authoritative public prevalence rate, guaranteed resolution time, or current outage statistic for this error. If the official named-error and account steps fail, escalation is more useful than repeatedly unlinking accounts.

Contact Minecraft Support with useful evidence
Prepare the details support needs to distinguish an account problem from a platform problem:
- Platform: Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, or Kindle Fire.
- Minecraft edition and the exact error text, including the word “Crossbow.”
- The Xbox gamertag displayed when the failure occurs.
- Whether the Microsoft account can sign in successfully outside Minecraft.
- Whether the issue affects one device or several devices.
- Relevant purchase, subscription, Realm, or account details that establish ownership.
- The approximate time the error began and the steps already tried.
Do not send passwords or one-time verification codes to support or to anyone claiming to troubleshoot the account. If the sign-in failure is account-wide, continue through Microsoft’s recovery process; if it is Minecraft-only after a correct account login, provide the platform and exact message to Minecraft Support.
Common mistakes that prolong Crossbow
Using the browser account instead of the game account
A browser may be signed in to one Microsoft account while the Xbox app or console uses another. The code flow completes for whichever identity the browser authorizes, so verify the email and gamertag before accepting it.

Reinstalling Minecraft does not change which Microsoft account owns a purchase or which Xbox profile is active. Confirm the account and platform session first.
Assuming a child-account restriction is a password failure
A child account can authenticate successfully and still be blocked from Multiplayer or Clubs. Have the parent or organizer review those two permissions rather than creating a different account.
Creating multiple replacement accounts
New accounts can separate the gamertag, purchase history, Realms, and saved content you were trying to access. Keep the original account in the recovery path until ownership is established.
