If Minecraft Launcher shows “The Minecraft Launcher license is not available for your account (0X803F8001),” first check that the same Microsoft account is signed in to Minecraft Launcher, Microsoft Store, and the Xbox app—and that this account owns Minecraft or has eligible PC Game Pass access. If those checks are correct, Minecraft’s code-specific guidance is to install the Launcher from Microsoft Store and reset the Store using WSReset.
What error 0x803F8001 means
Minecraft identifies 0x803F8001 as a Launcher license error: the Launcher cannot validate a license for the account currently being used. That does not by itself prove you never bought Minecraft. A different account in one of the connected apps, or an account without the required game entitlement, can also explain why access is unavailable. Minecraft’s code-specific support article and its Launcher troubleshooting guidance describe the account and license checks involved.
Fix the account and license check first
1. Sign in with the same Microsoft account in all three apps
- In Minecraft Launcher, check the account shown in the upper-left corner.
- Open Microsoft Store and check the profile that is signed in.
- Open the Xbox app and check its signed-in account.
- Sign in to all three with the Microsoft account that owns Minecraft or has eligible PC Game Pass access.
The Launcher works with Microsoft and Xbox services to validate access, so mismatched accounts can prevent the license from being recognized. Minecraft’s troubleshooting page recommends using the same licensed Microsoft account across Launcher, Store, and Xbox.
2. Confirm that this account has access
If the Launcher does not show a Play button, Minecraft says you may be signed in with an account that does not own the game. Check ownership while signed in to the account you intend to use, or confirm that it has an applicable Xbox Game Pass for PC subscription. A Minecraft purchase on one Microsoft account does not transfer to another. Check the entitlement before considering a new purchase. Reinstall the Launcher through Microsoft Store
If the correct account has access but the error remains, Minecraft’s exact-code support guidance recommends installing the Launcher from Microsoft Store. Use the Store while signed in to the account you checked above. Minecraft also documents installing through the Xbox app or Minecraft.net, but the Microsoft Store route is the code-specific recommendation. The official Minecraft download page lists the available installation routes.
Reset Microsoft Store with WSReset
- Press Windows key + R to open Run.
- Type
WSResetorwsreset.exe. - Press Enter and let the reset complete.
Then reopen Microsoft Store and Minecraft Launcher and check whether the license is recognized. Minecraft recommends this reset for error 0x803F8001; Microsoft also documents wsreset.exe for Store access and download problems. Try general Microsoft Store and Windows app recovery
These are broader Store-app measures rather than additional diagnoses specific to this Minecraft error. Try them after confirming the account and entitlement and following the code-specific steps.
Close and reopen the app, then install updates
- Close and reopen Microsoft Store and Minecraft Launcher.
- Install available Windows updates.
- In Microsoft Store, open Library and select Get updates.

Repair or reset the affected app
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft Store or Minecraft Launcher, select its menu, and open Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair. If that is unavailable or does not help, select Reset.
Not every app offers these controls. Microsoft documents this path for apps that expose Advanced options. Microsoft’s app repair guidance explains the options.
Reinstall if recovery steps fail
As a later general recovery step, uninstall and reinstall the Launcher, preferably through Microsoft Store. Microsoft lists reinstalling as a possible Store-app remedy; Minecraft’s code-specific instructions prioritize account verification, Store installation, and WSReset.

When to contact support
If the account is correct, the game entitlement is present, and the Store and app recovery steps have not worked, contact Microsoft Store or Minecraft Support with the exact error text and the troubleshooting steps already completed. Check current Microsoft, Xbox, and Minecraft service status if you suspect a temporary service problem; the available guidance does not establish that this code is caused by a live outage. Microsoft’s Store troubleshooting page directs users to support when its steps do not resolve the issue. Windows 10 still runs, but Microsoft ended its support on October 14, 2025; readers who remain on it should account for that status when deciding whether to keep troubleshooting on that system.
