If a Minecraft world is missing on Switch 2, first identify whether it came from the legacy Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition, the newer Bedrock version, or the Switch 2 beta. “Upgrade” can mean getting the Switch 2 game license, moving save data from one console to another, or converting a world made in a different Minecraft edition. These paths are not interchangeable.

How to convert a legacy Switch Edition world
Minecraft’s historical FAQ describes this route from legacy Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition into the Bedrock version of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch. The FAQ was published in 2018, so treat the menu path as historical guidance and check current Minecraft support for released Switch 2 behavior.

- Launch the Bedrock version of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch.
- On the worlds list, choose Sync Old Worlds.
- If the legacy world is detected, select it to convert it.
If the world is not listed, do not assume the Switch 2 edition will import it automatically. Confirm which edition originally created the world and whether you are looking at the correct console and game version, then consult Minecraft’s Nintendo Switch FAQ and current Minecraft support. The available official guidance does not document a Switch 2-specific fix for a legacy world that remains undetected.
How to move Switch save data to Switch 2
Nintendo’s System Transfer is a console-level process for moving save data and settings. Follow the steps and eligibility details on Nintendo’s Switch 2 System Transfer guide. Nintendo notes that transfer details can depend on the method used and registration status.

Use this route when the task is moving data between consoles. A successful console transfer does not, by itself, prove that a world from legacy Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition has been converted to Bedrock or will appear in a different Minecraft edition.

How the announced Switch 2 game upgrade works
Minecraft’s October 7, 2026 announcement says owners of the digital Minecraft for Nintendo Switch version can pre-order the digital Standard Edition for Switch 2 through Nintendo eShop for free in most territories, through the end of January 2027. The announced price is 100 JPY in Japan and 30 NTD in Taiwan. Players choosing Deluxe or Ultimate can upgrade for discounted fees. Check the account and eShop for the terms that apply in your territory; a physical Switch copy is not included in the stated digital-owner eligibility.

- Open Nintendo eShop and check the Switch 2 Standard Edition upgrade offer and displayed regional terms.
- If you want Deluxe or Ultimate, review the discounted upgrade price shown for that edition.
The release date announced for the native Switch 2 version is October 27, 2026. The announcement describes Vibrant Visuals as enabled by default, while noting it is unavailable in some gameplay, including split-screen and some Marketplace worlds or content. Neither the upgrade offer nor buying a game license confirms that an existing world has transferred.

If the world still does not appear
- Check its source edition. Legacy Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition and the later Bedrock game are different editions; the documented historical conversion route begins from Bedrock’s worlds list.
- Separate console transfer from world conversion. Use Nintendo’s instructions for moving console data, and Minecraft’s guidance for an edition conversion.
- Check whether the problem is in the released game or a beta. A Minecraft Feedback post from August 17, 2026 describes one user’s beta experience: legacy worlds did not appear directly, and the user reported an intermediate Bedrock step. The post also reports trouble moving beta worlds back to the main version. This is an unverified beta-era account, not official guidance or proof of released-game behavior.
- Use official support when the documented route fails. The cited sources do not give an end-to-end Switch 2 recovery procedure for every missing world. Avoid deleting a source world or relying on an assumed automatic migration while seeking help.
