What is known about GTA 6 audio troubleshooting
Rockstar’s GTA VI product page lists November 19, 2026 as the release date and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms. The company’s June 24, 2026 announcement describes the game as a single-player experience coming to those consoles.
Rockstar’s GTA VI Support section, as reviewed before launch, does not provide a GTA 6 ambient-audio troubleshooting guide. No specific cause, in-game audio setting, known bug, or fix for missing or distorted ambient sound is established by the official guidance currently available. Recheck Rockstar Support after release for any game-specific advice or updates.
Check whether the problem is the PS5 audio path
Sony’s recommendations address PS5 audio output generally, not GTA 6. Use them to distinguish a console, display, or connection problem from a symptom that occurs only in the game.

- Check mute and volume. Make sure the TV or display and any connected audio device are not muted, and raise their volume to a normal listening level.
- Confirm the PS5 output device. Open Settings > Sound > Audio Output and check that the selected device matches your setup, such as an HDMI-connected display or audio system.
- Isolate the HDMI connection. Temporarily connect the PS5 directly to the display, bypassing intermediary equipment such as a soundbar or capture device. If the symptom changes, the removed device or connection path may be involved; that does not establish a GTA 6 fault.
- Update and test the connection. Check for PS5 system software updates. If needed, try another HDMI port or a known-working cable, and check for firmware updates for the display or connected audio device.
Sony lists these as general picture and sound checks in its PS5 picture and sound troubleshooting guide. A replacement cable is only a useful diagnostic if the HDMI connection is suspect; buying a headset or cable is not an established fix for game-side ambient audio.
If sound is distorted rather than completely absent
Sony’s PS5 audio settings guide covers output-device selection, HDMI device type, headphone output, and audio format. Options vary with the connected devices and configuration. You can review the selected device and format while isolating the audio path, but the guide does not identify a GTA 6 distortion cause or prescribe a game-specific setting.

Decide what to do based on where the symptom occurs
- Other PS5 games or system sounds are also missing or distorted: Continue checking the console, display, connected audio equipment, and HDMI path using Sony’s general guidance.
- The symptom occurs only in GTA 6 while other audio works: Once the game is released, check Rockstar Support and available game updates. No particular GTA 6 update procedure or known audio issue is confirmed in advance.
- You play on Xbox Series X|S: Rockstar lists Xbox Series X|S as a platform, but the official sources reviewed here do not establish Xbox-specific troubleshooting steps for this symptom. Consult current Xbox Support rather than applying PS5 menu instructions.
