Start by identifying when the problem occurs and which PC edition you use. For crashes or low FPS, check the PC requirements, graphics-card selection, and power settings before changing hardware. For multiplayer trouble, work through the connection checks for your storefront: Capcom’s Steam and Microsoft Store guidance differs.
First, identify the failure and storefront
Note whether Monster Hunter Rise fails to launch, crashes during play, runs slowly, or fails when you try to join or invite someone. Those symptoms can have different causes, so avoid changing graphics, security, and router settings all at once.
- Steam edition: Use Steam’s system requirements and Capcom’s Steam troubleshooting guidance for game files and multiplayer.
- Microsoft Store edition: Use Capcom’s separate Windows Store connection guidance, including its port list. Do not assume those ports are a universal Steam requirement.
- Laptop or dual-GPU PC: Check which graphics processor the game is using and whether the system is limiting performance on battery power.
Capcom’s general PC troubleshooting guide was updated July 16, 2026, and its Steam network guide July 17, 2026. Steam’s requirements are storefront-listed targets, not a guarantee of a particular result on every PC.
Check whether your PC meets Steam’s listed requirements
Steam lists the following specifications for the Steam edition. Capcom warns that falling below the minimum may cause poor frame rates or prevent the game from running; a PC between minimum and recommended specifications may need lower graphics settings.
#1 Best Overall
- The debut of the new “wirebug” mechanic allows for wire-based grappling actions that can be used to scale cliffs and other hard-to-reach areas, providing new traversal and aerial attack options.
- The game will introduce magnamalo, a menacing new flagship monster, as well as other new monsters like the shape-shifting aknosom, the amphibious tetranadon, and more.
- New hunting partners called palamutes can be personalized and used to ride across the terrain, providing players with all-new traveling and attack options.
- In addition to the plethora of solo and multiplayer quests, the immersive story mode will task aspiring hunters with discovering the secrets behind the puzzling “rampage” events that threaten kamura village.
| Component | Steam minimum | Steam recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | 64-bit Windows 10 | 64-bit Windows 10 |
| Processor | Intel Core i3-4130 or Core i5-3470, or AMD FX-6100 | Intel Core i5-4460 or AMD FX-8300 |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 8 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030 (DDR4) or AMD Radeon RX 550 | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 3 GB VRAM or AMD Radeon RX 570 with 4 GB VRAM |
| DirectX | Version 12 | Version 12 |
| Network and storage | Broadband internet; 36 GB storage | Broadband internet; 36 GB storage |
| Steam’s stated performance target | 1080p/30fps on Low settings | 1080p/30fps on Average settings |
The 1080p/30fps figures are Steam’s stated targets for its minimum and recommended specifications, not independent benchmark results or a promise about your particular machine. Capcom says some integrated graphics may work but are untested and unsupported.
Fix crashes or a game that will not launch
Try the reversible checks below in order. They are possible causes to investigate, not a diagnosis: a crash alone does not establish that the cause is drivers, antivirus, codecs, or hardware.

- This Nintendo Switch system takes you to new heights with art inspired by the flagship monster, magnamalo, from the action-RPG title monster Hunter Rise.
- The eye catching metallic artwork features game inspired iconography on the Nintendo Switch Console, Joy-Con controllers, and the Nintendo Switch dock.
- As a bonus, this Nintendo Switch bundle includes a digital code for monster Hunter Rise + Deluxe kit DLC that includes the game and additional in-game content.
- Compare your hardware and free storage with the table above. Check the processor, graphics card, RAM, Windows version, DirectX support, and available disk space. If the PC is below minimum, that can explain poor performance or failure to start; do not buy replacement hardware before confirming the game is using the right GPU.
- Check security software’s handling of the game. Capcom says antivirus software can sometimes falsely flag the executable. If you trust the installation, check whether your antivirus or firewall is blocking the game and add an exception only for the correct game or Steam files. Capcom’s default Steam locations are
C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonMonsterHunterRiseandC:Program Files (x86)Steam; it also identifies Steam AppData under the Windows user’s local application data. Installed locations can differ, so verify yours rather than excluding unrelated folders. - Try administrator mode if the launch problem persists. Capcom reports that some users have resolved launch issues by running Steam or the game executable as administrator. In Windows, right-click the relevant app or executable and choose Run as administrator. Treat this as a test, not a general requirement to run every game with elevated access.
- Update Windows and your graphics driver. Install available Windows updates and the current driver for your graphics hardware, then try launching again. Capcom discusses clean driver installation if ordinary updates do not help. It mentions Display Driver Uninstaller as an enthusiast option, not a necessary first step.
- On a laptop, assign the game to the dedicated GPU and check power. Use the current graphics-vendor or Windows graphics settings to select the high-performance GPU for Monster Hunter Rise; control-panel names can change. Connect the charger and check that the power profile is not restricting performance.
- Check DirectX, media components, and Steam’s installed files. Capcom recommends ensuring DirectX is up to date and verifying the game’s Steam files to repair missing or damaged files. If the problem involves cutscenes or a launch failure on a Windows edition without media components, check whether the Windows Media Feature Pack or relevant codecs are needed for that edition.
- Record details before contacting support. Preserve the exact error text and note whether the failure happens at launch, in a particular scene, or after changing a setting. Capcom asks users still experiencing problems to provide
config.ini,DxDiag.txt, and their region or location.
Improve low FPS without guessing at upgrades
If your PC is below the recommended specifications
Compare it with Steam’s listing, then lower graphics settings if it meets minimum but not recommended requirements; that is Capcom’s advice for this hardware range. Steam’s stated target at minimum specifications is 1080p/30fps on Low settings, while its recommended target is 1080p/30fps on Average settings. These are specification targets, not measured FPS guarantees.
If you play on a laptop
- Confirm Monster Hunter Rise is assigned to the dedicated, high-performance GPU rather than integrated graphics.
- Connect the charger and check that the power profile is not limiting performance.
If the hardware and settings seem appropriate
Update the graphics driver and Windows, then retest. Change one setting at a time so you can tell whether it affected the frame rate. Capcom’s guidance supports checking requirements, settings, drivers, GPU selection, and power; it does not establish one universal cause for low FPS.

Fix multiplayer connection problems on Steam
Use this sequence for the Steam edition. Capcom’s connection guide covers service availability, account privacy, local network conditions, router configuration, and security software.
- Check Steam service status. If Steam is experiencing an outage, local router changes are unlikely to resolve a service-side problem.
- If invites fail, check profile privacy. Capcom says a protected Steam profile can prevent sending invites. Try setting profile privacy to Public or Friends Only and test again.
- Reduce competing network use for a test. Pause downloads, streaming, or other heavy network activity and, if practical, test with fewer active devices. Capcom says 15–20 Mbps is often sufficient for online gaming; this is general guidance, not a Monster Hunter Rise-specific minimum bandwidth requirement. Multiple devices and simultaneous streaming or work can still strain the connection available to the PC.
- Restart the game, PC, and network equipment. Exit the game, restart the computer, and restart the modem or router. Retest before making more involved changes.
- Check NAT and UPnP. Capcom notes that strict NAT can make it difficult to connect to some online game servers; this can occur on some university or college networks. Check whether UPnP is enabled if appropriate for your network. If you are unsure about router or port settings, ask the router manufacturer or internet provider rather than changing settings blindly.
- Isolate a Wi-Fi or router issue. If you use Wi-Fi, test over wired Ethernet if you can connect the PC to the router. If you are already wired, Capcom suggests testing a direct-to-modem connection to help determine whether the router is involved.
- Check firewall permissions. Make sure Windows Firewall and security software allow
MonsterHunterRise.exefor the correct installation.
Microsoft Store edition: follow its separate network guidance
Capcom’s Windows Store FAQ gives a different checklist from its Steam guide. It recommends rebooting network equipment, enabling UPnP, testing a simpler network path, adjusting Wi-Fi channel or band and reducing distance or interference, trying Ethernet, and checking packet filtering and ISP status.

Keep this list scoped to Capcom’s Microsoft Store guidance; it is not presented there as a universal Steam requirement. Changing router or other network equipment settings can carry security risks. If you are unsure what a setting does, contact your ISP or equipment manufacturer.
When more than one problem happens

- Crashes and low FPS: start with the hardware comparison, then check laptop GPU routing and power before changing hardware.
- Runs slowly but stays online: focus on graphics settings, GPU assignment, and power; multiplayer port guidance is not a frame-rate fix.
- Runs normally but cannot join or invite: follow the network checklist for the storefront, beginning with service status on Steam or Capcom’s separate Microsoft Store guidance.
- Fails only in a particular scene: record where it happens and the exact error, then check files and relevant media components rather than assuming a general performance problem.
Capcom’s multiplayer manual states that multiplayer requires an internet connection. The troubleshooting steps above address common connection layers, but none guarantees a fix for every PC, account, network, or service condition.
