Close overlays and other background software
Exit overlays, recording or capture tools, input-remapping utilities, and other applications running alongside the game, then test again. Check that your PC meets MWII’s minimum requirements
Compare your system with the game’s minimum requirements using Activision’s support guidance. If the PC falls short, crashes may persist despite repairing files or updating software. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee that a particular error will disappear.

Reinstall only after the other checks fail
If updates and, on PC, launcher repair have not helped, reinstalling is a last-resort troubleshooting attempt suggested by the third-party 6036 guide—not a verified remedy for 11153. Before uninstalling, make sure you can sign back into the account associated with the game. Let the download and installation finish before launching.
What not to do: delete game files manually
An older 2020 community post describes deleting IDX files for the earlier Modern Warfare game. That anecdote is not evidence of a safe or effective MWII fix. Do not remove files by hand based on it; use the launcher’s repair feature instead.
