Start by finding the complete error code, including the four digits after 2813-. Nintendo uses that prefix for several different eShop errors, so the right fix depends on the suffix and what you were doing when it appeared. Check Nintendo’s Network Status for a reported outage or maintenance; otherwise, follow the support instructions for your exact code.

First, identify the exact error

Copy the entire code exactly as it appears on screen, such as 2813-9000 or 2813-5901. Also note what you were doing: opening the eShop, making a purchase, redeeming a download code, or downloading content. The prefix alone does not establish whether the issue is service availability, payment, account region, or something else.

Nintendo’s error-code support index lists separate entries for codes that begin with 2813. Use the page matching your full code and your country or region; do not assume that another 2813 code’s instructions apply.

Check whether Nintendo’s service is unavailable

  1. Open Nintendo’s Network Status page and look for a notice affecting Nintendo eShop or related services.
  2. If Nintendo reports maintenance or an outage, wait until the notice ends, then retry the action that failed.
  3. If no relevant notice appears, open Nintendo’s support page for your full error code and follow its steps. A missing notice does not identify the cause by itself.

Use the instructions for your full code

Full code When it may appear Nintendo’s guidance
2813-0000 Opening eShop from a Game News link, redeeming a download code, or purchasing a family membership. Nintendo says a mismatch between the Game News region and the country on the Nintendo Account may cause this error. Check that the account country and Game News region match, restart the console, check for service maintenance or an outage, and try again later if none is reported. See Nintendo’s 2813-0000 support page.
2813-9000 Making a purchase. Nintendo says this likely indicates eShop maintenance. Check Network Status and make the purchase after maintenance ends. If no notice is posted and the error persists, wait and try later. See Nintendo’s 2813-9000 support page.
2813-9712 Accessing eShop after inactivity or during a temporary service outage. Return to the HOME Menu and try opening eShop again. If the problem continues, check Network Status. If it persists for an extended time without a service notice, contact Nintendo Support. See Nintendo’s 2813-9712 support page.
2813-5901 A credit-card purchase. Wait several minutes and try again. If needed, Nintendo lists another payment method, such as PayPal or a prepaid Nintendo eShop card. Contact Nintendo if the error persists. These options apply to this payment-specific code, not to every 2813 error. See Nintendo’s 2813-5901 support page.
2813-2491 A credit-card transaction timeout; the cited instructions are from Nintendo UK. Nintendo UK lists checking service status, clearing the console cache, trying manual DNS and reverting to automatic DNS if it does not help, using another wireless network, considering another payment option, or purchasing through Nintendo’s official website. Retry later if the error persists. Instructions may differ by region; use the support page for your country and exact code. See Nintendo UK’s 2813-2491 support page.
2813-5599 A purchase. Return to HOME and restart eShop, check for outages, and wait before trying again if none is reported. Nintendo advises contacting support if the issue lasts multiple days. See Nintendo’s 2813-5599 support page.

Nintendo also lists 2813-0071 in its support results as a download-related error. Use the page for that exact code rather than borrowing purchase or account-region steps from another entry.

If you still cannot resolve it

  • Confirm the complete code and the task that triggered it before choosing a troubleshooting page.
  • Follow the escalation timing on that page. For example, Nintendo’s guidance for 2813-9712 says to contact support if the issue continues for an extended time without a service notice; its 2813-5599 guidance says to contact support if it persists over multiple days.
  • When contacting Nintendo Support, provide the full code, what you were doing, and whether Network Status showed a relevant notice. Do not treat the 2813 prefix alone as evidence of a faulty console or a payment problem.
