Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To update a published modpack release in the CurseForge app, open My Modpacks, hover over the pack, click the arrows beside Play, choose a version, and select Continue. If you mean updating one mod inside the pack, that is a separate task: the mod must match the profile’s Minecraft version and modloader.
Update the modpack to a published release
- Open the CurseForge app and go to My Modpacks.
- Hover over the modpack and click the small arrows button beside Play.
- Choose Update to the latest version, or select a specific available version from the list.
- Choose whether to update the current profile or create a separate profile, then click Continue to install.
The version list only includes releases the pack author has uploaded. Changing the pack version does not change the Minecraft game version. CurseForge Support explicitly says the action “is not related to the Minecraft version of the modpack.” CurseForge’s version-change instructions were modified April 1, 2026.
Keep your current profile and custom changes
If you want to preserve the existing installation, select Update to a separate modpack profile before continuing. CurseForge warns that custom content changes can be overwritten when changing versions unless you create a new profile.
If the change-version option is unavailable, check the profile’s content-management setting. When Allow content management for this profile is enabled in Profile Options, CurseForge says to disable it before the Change Version action becomes available. The exact labels may vary with app updates; follow the controls shown in your installed version.

Update one mod inside a modpack
Updating an individual mod is not the same as changing the pack to a newer release. A mod file must be compatible with both the profile’s Minecraft version and its modloader. CurseForge documentation names Forge, Fabric, NeoForge, and Quilt as modloaders. Check the mod’s file compatibility before installing it; if the newest file does not match the pack, choose a compatible version or roll back to one that works.
See CurseForge’s guide to installing Minecraft mods and modpacks (modified August 19, 2025) and its modloader guidance (modified November 23, 2025) for compatibility details.
What the addon update setting does
The CurseForge app’s getting-started guide documents addon update checks under Settings > Addons > Updates, including an Auto Install Updates option for a selected game. This describes addon updates; the guide does not say that the setting automatically changes a Minecraft modpack to a newer published release. See CurseForge App – Getting Started (modified May 19, 2026).
If you cannot see the version-change option
- Check whether the pack author has uploaded another version. The app cannot offer a release that has not been published.
- Check whether Allow content management for this profile is enabled; if so, disable it in Profile Options and check again.
- If your goal is to update a single mod rather than the pack, verify that its file supports the profile’s Minecraft version and modloader.
Export or transfer a profile
If you need a portable copy or want someone else to use the profile, CurseForge supports exporting through Share Profile and importing a compatible zip or profile code. Profile codes are valid for seven days, according to CurseForge’s profile-sharing guide (modified July 7, 2026).
