Most Palworld connection failures become straightforward once you identify the server type and the player’s platform. Steam players can usually join a dedicated server with its address and port, while Xbox and PS5 players generally need a server published as a community server and must find it in the in-game list. Test from the same home network first, then work outward through Windows Firewall, UDP 8211, UDP 27015, router forwarding, public addressing, and platform compatibility.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Palworld servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
Start by identifying the connection path
Palworld has two fundamentally different multiplayer arrangements: a world hosted from the game client and an always-on dedicated server. A client-hosted world depends on the host player being in the game. A dedicated server runs separately and is joined by address and port or discovered in the community-server browser.

Your joining method also depends on the platform. Steam players can enter a dedicated server address and port below the server list. Xbox players cannot enter an IP address directly; the official Xbox guide for version 0.3.12.0 states, “Note that on Xbox, you cannot connect by entering an IP address.” Xbox and PS5 players therefore need a dedicated server deployed as a community server, with the relevant platform enabled, and must locate it through the in-game listing.
| Server or player situation | Correct join method | Most common failure point |
|---|---|---|
| Steam player joining a dedicated server | Enter the server’s reachable address and game port below the server list | Wrong address, closed UDP 8211, firewall, or incompatible version |
| Xbox player | Search for the server in the Community server list | Server is not registered as a community server or the name is searched incorrectly |
| PS5 player | Use the community-server route when supported by the current server documentation and game release | Platform support or cross-play availability changed by version |
| Player on the same home network | Use the host computer’s private IPv4 address and game port | Server process, local firewall, wrong private address, or mismatched version |
Do not begin by changing client files or repeatedly restarting the game. First establish whether the server works locally, because that single test separates a server or LAN problem from an internet-reachability problem.

Collect the details that determine the diagnosis
Before troubleshooting, write down the following:
- Whether the host is running a dedicated server or hosting a world from the game client.
- The host computer’s current private IPv4 address.
- The configured Palworld game port, normally UDP 8211.
- Whether the joining player is on Steam, Xbox/Microsoft Store, or PS5.
- The exact game and server versions.
- The exact community-server name, including punctuation and spaces.
- Whether the failure is an immediate rejection, a timeout, or a missing listing.
On a Windows host, open Command Prompt and run ipconfig. Use the active adapter’s IPv4 address, such as an address beginning with 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, or 172.16.x.x through 172.31.x.x, for a same-network test. This private address is not the address remote players should use over the internet, and it can change unless you reserve it in the router.
Step 1: Test from the same LAN
Have another player connected to the same home router enter the host computer’s private IPv4 address and Palworld’s game port. The troubleshooting guidance identifies UDP 8211 for this game path.
- Start the dedicated server and wait until its console or status window indicates that it has finished starting.
- On the joining computer, open Palworld’s multiplayer screen and use the direct-address field below the server list.
- Enter the host’s current private IPv4 address, followed by the game port, for example
192.168.1.25:8211. Replace the example with the actual values shown byipconfigand the server configuration. - Attempt to join while both devices remain on the same home network.
If the LAN test succeeds
The Palworld process is reachable on the local network. Concentrate on router forwarding, the public address, double NAT, carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT), and ISP restrictions. Do not keep reinstalling the game or editing local files; those changes cannot repair an internet path that never reaches the host.
If the LAN test fails
Check the server process, private address, game version, and Windows Firewall before examining the router. A host may have received a new private address after a reboot, so an old forwarding rule can point to the wrong computer. Confirm that the joining player is using the same game port shown in the running server configuration.
Step 2: Confirm the server process and local firewall
Verify that the correct process is running
Make sure the dedicated-server executable, commonly shown as PalServer.exe, is running on the intended computer. If the server closes during startup, address that error first; a port-forwarding rule cannot make a stopped process reachable. Check that the world loads completely and that the server is not still applying an update.

Allow PalServer.exe through Windows Firewall
Windows may permit the process on one network profile but block it on another. Open Windows Security → Firewall & network protection → Allow an app through firewall. Select Change settings, enable the entry for PalServer.exe (or add the executable if it is absent), and allow it on the network profile used by the host. If you create a manual rule instead, allow the Palworld game traffic on UDP 8211.

After changing the rule, stop and restart the dedicated server, then repeat the LAN test. If local joining still fails, temporarily disabling the firewall is useful only as a short diagnostic experiment; restore protection immediately and create a specific allow rule rather than leaving the firewall disabled.
Step 3: Forward the required ports
For an internet-hosted dedicated server, the troubleshooting documentation identifies UDP 8211 as the game port and UDP 27015 as the query port used for server queries and listing. Forward each port from the router to the host computer’s stable private IPv4 address.
| Purpose | Protocol | Port | Where it must be allowed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Palworld game traffic | UDP | 8211 | Router port-forwarding rule and Windows Firewall |
| Query and listing traffic | UDP | 27015 | Router port-forwarding rule and Windows Firewall when using internet hosting and community discovery |
| RCON administration | UDP/TCP as configured by the server | 25575 | Keep private unless remote RCON is deliberately required |
Router interfaces use different labels, but the fields are usually called Port forwarding, Virtual server, or NAT rule. For each Palworld rule, select the host computer’s reserved private IP address, enter the external and internal port, choose UDP, and save. If the router asks for a range, use 8211–8211 and 27015–27015 rather than opening unrelated ranges.
Keep the host address stable
A forwarding rule is tied to a local address. Create a DHCP reservation in the router for the host computer, or configure a static private address that does not conflict with the router’s DHCP pool. Recheck the address with ipconfig after any network change. A rule aimed at yesterday’s address produces the same timeout as a closed port.

Do not expose RCON casually
Port 25575 is used for RCON administration. It is not required for ordinary player connections. Leave it un-forwarded and blocked from the public internet unless you intentionally need remote administration and have secured it according to the server’s current configuration. Opening RCON “just in case” increases exposure without fixing a normal join failure.
Step 4: Check the public-address path
When LAN joining works but a player outside the home network receives “connection timed out,” inspect the path between the internet and the host.
Confirm the router has a reachable public address
Some connections place the home router behind another NAT device or the ISP’s CGNAT. In that arrangement, forwarding ports on the household router may not be enough because inbound traffic never reaches it. Look at the router’s internet or WAN address. If it is private, shared, or different from the public address shown by an external address-checking service, ask the ISP whether inbound connections are supported and whether a public IPv4 address is available.
Look for double NAT
If an ISP modem/router feeds a second personal router, both devices may perform NAT. Put the ISP gateway in bridge mode where supported, forward the ports through both devices, or use the vendor’s documented access-point mode. Do not change multiple devices at once without recording the original settings; the goal is one clear route from the public address to the host’s reserved private address.
Re-test after every network change
- Restart the dedicated server after confirming its configured port.
- Verify the host still has the reserved private address.
- Have a player on a different internet connection attempt to join.
- If the result remains a timeout, recheck both the router rule and the Windows Firewall rule, then investigate ISP restrictions or CGNAT.
A Cat6 Ethernet cable between the host PC and router can remove Wi-Fi instability during diagnosis, but it cannot correct a wrong forwarding rule, double NAT, or CGNAT.

Step 5: Make a server appear for Xbox and PS5 players
Console clients generally cannot type a server address. They rely on the community-server listing, so a server that works by direct IP for Steam may still be invisible to a console player.
Deploy the server as a community server
The official server overview says that joining from the Xbox or PS5 version requires deploying the server as a community server. Enable the community-server option and the platform support required by the current server configuration. A normal dedicated server that is not published for community discovery will not appear merely because UDP 8211 is open.

After starting or restarting the server, wait several minutes for registration. Search the exact configured server name rather than a shortened nickname. Use a distinctive name without unnecessary punctuation while testing, then change it later if desired.
If the listing remains absent
- Confirm that the server is configured for community discovery rather than direct-IP-only access.
- Verify UDP 27015, in addition to UDP 8211, is forwarded to the host and allowed by the firewall.
- Check that the public-list setting is enabled and that the server has a reachable public address.
- Confirm the console and server are on compatible game versions.
- Search the exact name after waiting through a fresh restart.
Changing client files is not a reliable fix for a server that was never registered, is filtered by platform settings, or cannot be reached from the public internet.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Step 6: Check version and platform compatibility
Cross-play behavior is version- and platform-dependent. The official server documentation has listed Steam, Xbox/Microsoft Store, and macOS support for documented configurations, while PS5 availability has varied by the version of the documentation. The pages themselves are versioned, including 0.3.12.0, 0.4.15, and 0.5.0, so an older setup guide may not describe the current release.

Update the game client and dedicated server together where possible. Compare the exact version shown by the server with the version installed by the joining player. If only one platform fails, treat compatibility and community-server settings as more likely than a generic router failure. Verify the current official server documentation and the host’s advertised platform support after each major Palworld update.
Read the symptom as a decision point
| Symptom | Most useful next check |
|---|---|
| Immediate failure on a same-network attempt | Server process, private IPv4 address, game port, version match, and Windows Firewall |
| LAN works; remote Steam player times out | UDP 8211 forwarding, host public address, double NAT, CGNAT, and ISP policy |
| Steam can join; Xbox or PS5 cannot see the server | Community-server deployment, platform setting, UDP 27015, exact name, and registration delay |
| Server disappeared after a restart | Wait for registration, confirm public-list configuration, and verify the host’s public address did not change |
| Only one player cannot join | That player’s game version, platform support, account/network restrictions, and exact address entry |
| Everyone fails after a server update | Server process status, version alignment, changed port defaults, and firewall rules |
Home hosting versus managed hosting
Running the server at home provides direct control but requires a reachable public address, router access, firewall configuration, and a computer that stays online. A managed host shifts those network and uptime responsibilities to the provider. The right choice depends on whether your home connection can accept inbound traffic and whether the world must remain available when the host PC is offline.
| Consideration | Home-hosted dedicated server | Managed Palworld hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Public reachability | Depends on router forwarding, public IPv4, and ISP support | Provider supplies an internet-reachable server environment |
| Setup effort | Install, configure, forward ports, reserve a local IP, and maintain firewall rules | Initial setup is usually simpler, but provider-specific settings still need checking |
| Recurring cost | No hosting fee is established here; you supply electricity, hardware, and connectivity | Recurring price varies by provider and plan; no single figure is established here |
| Control | Full control over files, updates, ports, and restart timing | Control depends on the host’s panel and policies |
| Backups | You must create and verify your own world backups | Backup schedules and restoration tools depend on the provider |
| Availability | World is unavailable when the host machine or home connection is offline | Designed for continuous availability, subject to the provider’s service |
| Console discovery | You must configure community listing and the required query traffic | Confirm that the selected service supports community registration and your platform mix |
Choose managed hosting when CGNAT or router restrictions make inbound access impossible, when the host cannot stay online, or when you need a world available while the owner is away. Before subscribing, verify platform support, community-list registration, port controls, backups, update timing, and support response. A hosted server does not automatically solve a game-version mismatch or an incorrectly configured community listing.
A compact recovery sequence
- Identify whether the server is client-hosted, a direct-IP dedicated server, or a community server.
- Confirm the joining platform and whether it can enter an address directly.
- Match the server and client versions.
- Test from the same LAN using the host’s private IPv4 address and UDP 8211.
- If LAN fails, fix the process, address, port, or Windows Firewall.
- If LAN succeeds but remote access fails, forward UDP 8211 and UDP 27015 to a stable private address.
- Check public addressing, double NAT, CGNAT, and ISP inbound restrictions.
- For consoles, enable community-server deployment, wait for registration, and search the exact name.
- Keep RCON 25575 private unless remote administration is intentional.
- Move to managed hosting if the home network cannot provide a reachable, continuously available server.
When to stop troubleshooting the client
If a Steam player can join locally and a remote player cannot, the remaining fault is on the network path rather than in the player’s installation. If a server is absent only for consoles, direct-IP troubleshooting is the wrong path; community registration and platform support are the deciding factors. If all players fail immediately after an update, compare versions and server configuration before rebuilding the world. These distinctions prevent destructive changes and keep the investigation focused on the component that can actually be failing.
