If an older game’s GPU-accelerated PhysX effects are missing or not working on an RTX 50-series card, first check whether NVIDIA has added the game to its supported list. GeForce Game Ready Driver 591.44 WHQL, released December 4, 2025, adds custom support for nine classic games. It is not a general fix for every older game or 32-bit CUDA application.
Check whether NVIDIA supports your game
NVIDIA’s custom RTX 50-series support applies to these nine games:

- Batman: Arkham City
- Batman: Arkham Origins
- Borderlands 2
- Mafia II
- Metro 2033

NVIDIA said Batman: Arkham Asylum was planned for the first part of 2026, but the announcement alone does not confirm that support shipped. Check newer NVIDIA driver release notes for its status.
Install the driver and check the game settings
- For a game on the supported list, install GeForce Game Ready Driver 591.44 WHQL or a later compatible driver. NVIDIA’s December 4, 2025 announcement describes custom support for selected classic games; the 591.44 WHQL driver details identify the release.
- Open the game’s graphics or PhysX quality settings and enable the relevant PhysX option if it is available. A driver update does not necessarily turn on a game’s setting automatically.
- In NVIDIA Control Panel, go to 3D Settings > Set PhysX configuration. Select Auto-select (recommended) or choose a specific PhysX-capable NVIDIA GPU, then click Apply. The PhysX visualizer can show which processor is selected. NVIDIA also documents CPU selection as an option.
NVIDIA’s Set PhysX configuration help and PhysX GPU acceleration instructions explain the available processor choices.

If your game is not on the list
Do not assume the 591.44 custom support restores GPU-accelerated PhysX in an unlisted title. The issue stems from the RTX 50-series launch-era phase-out of 32-bit CUDA support, which affected older games relying on 32-bit GPU-accelerated PhysX. NVIDIA’s custom driver path addresses selected games, not all legacy 32-bit CUDA software.
For some games, assigning a second compatible NVIDIA GPU as the PhysX processor may be worth investigating. In NVIDIA Control Panel, choose that GPU under 3D Settings > Set PhysX configuration, then click Apply. This is not a guaranteed fix: compatibility depends on the game and the PC’s hardware and configuration. Before buying a card, check that the system has a usable PCIe slot, adequate power, and support for the intended setup. NVIDIA documents manual processor selection, but does not guarantee that adding a GPU resolves every older title.
What to expect from the available options
| Option | When it applies | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Driver support for a listed game | One of NVIDIA’s nine named titles; use driver 591.44 WHQL or a later compatible release. | Enables the custom support path for that game; check its in-game PhysX setting too. |
| CPU processing | Available as a processor choice in NVIDIA Control Panel. | Can avoid relying on GPU acceleration, but performance and visual effects depend on the game. No universal frame-rate comparison is established. |
| Second compatible NVIDIA GPU | Potentially useful for some unlisted legacy games. | Requires compatible hardware, an available slot and sufficient power; it is not a universal or guaranteed remedy. |
There is no universal FPS figure for these choices: performance varies by title and configuration, and no comparable benchmark is available for this specific issue.
