If Planet Coaster crashes at launch or will not open on PC, start by checking that your computer meets the game’s requirements, then verify the game files in Steam. If that does not help, work through Windows and graphics-driver updates, disable overlays, and test for software or display conflicts. Frontier’s troubleshooting guide treats these as checks to try—not guaranteed fixes—and recommends contacting support with a DxDiag file if the problem continues.
1. Check whether your PC meets the requirements
Compare your system with the requirements listed by Frontier Support and the Steam listing. Meeting the minimum does not rule out driver, operating-system, or software conflicts, but falling short is a reason to investigate compatibility before changing settings or hardware.

These are the published PC specifications, not a guarantee that every computer meeting them will launch the game without issues. There is also an important Steam distinction: although the game listing includes Windows 7 and 8.1, Steam Client support has been Windows 10 and later since January 1, 2024.
2. Verify Planet Coaster’s files in Steam
A damaged or incomplete installation can prevent a game from starting. Frontier recommends verifying the integrity of the game files through Steam. In your Steam Library, open Planet Coaster’s properties and use Steam’s installed-files verification option. Let the check finish, then try launching the game again.

3. Update Windows and check your graphics driver
Install available Windows updates, then check whether your graphics-card driver is current. Frontier recommends updating the GPU driver or performing a clean reinstall. If the crashes began immediately after a driver update, however, a previously working driver may be worth restoring; a newer driver can sometimes introduce a problem.
Change one thing at a time and test the game after each change. That makes it easier to identify whether an update, reinstall, or rollback affected the launch problem.

4. Test for overlay and background-program conflicts
Overlays and recording or monitoring applications can conflict with a game. Temporarily turn off overlays and close background programs, then try launching Planet Coaster. Frontier specifically identifies Steam, Xbox Game Bar, Discord, and GeForce overlays, as well as recording or overlay software such as OBS, FRAPS, XSplit, Overwolf, MSI Afterburner, and ShadowPlay.
If the game opens, re-enable programs one at a time and test again. This can help identify a particular conflict without leaving every overlay disabled.

5. Check antivirus and display settings
Review your antivirus settings to make sure they are not preventing the game from running. If you test an allow-list or exception, use the antivirus program’s own controls and avoid disabling protection altogether.
Frontier also suggests testing display options: try fullscreen, lower the in-game graphics settings if you can reach them, or temporarily reset the Windows display resolution. These are troubleshooting options, not assured fixes; change one setting at a time and return it to its previous value if it makes no difference.

6. Consider overheating or a hardware issue
If crashes continue, check whether the PC is overheating. Frontier recommends consulting a qualified technician if you suspect a temperature problem. Its PCI-E graphics-card slot check is aimed particularly at high-end GPU performance issues, so it is not a routine first step for a game that simply will not launch.

- What you were doing immediately before the crash.
- Whether the crash happens the same way each time.
- What was happening in the game when it occurred, if you could reach gameplay.
- Whether other games or programs have also crashed.
- Relevant screenshots or footage, if available.
These details help support distinguish a repeatable game-launch issue from a wider system problem.
