First identify which problem you have: a download stuck in the queue, an installed game that will not launch, or a locked game/padlock that signals an account or license issue. Use the matching steps below—restarting a download cannot restore an expired subscription or a game that has left the PlayStation Plus catalog.
Start with the symptom

These steps apply to PS5 and PS4, but menu paths differ. Follow the branch that matches the problem rather than trying every fix at once.

If a PlayStation Plus game download won’t start
Recover the queued download
- Open Downloads/Uploads in the PS5 Control Center.
- Select the game and choose Pause, then Resume.
- If it still will not proceed, cancel and delete the download task. Find the game again in Game Library and retry the download.

Check service and connection conditions
- Check the live PlayStation status page before repeating attempts. If Sony reports a service alert, wait for service to return before retrying.
- Make sure the console has the latest system software.
- If a connection-related download problem persists, Sony recommends trying a wired connection when deleting and redownloading a game. This is an optional network test, not a fix for a locked game or missing entitlement.
If the game downloaded but won’t start
Try the reversible checks first
- Restart the console.
- Restore licenses using the platform-specific path below.
- Check for and install a system software update.
- If the game is on USB extended storage on PS5, move it to console storage and try again. On PS4, check that the USB extended-storage device containing the game is connected.
Sony’s launch troubleshooting sequences for PS5 and PS4 include deleting and redownloading the game if these checks do not resolve the issue.

Restore licenses on your console
- PS5: Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- PS4: Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses.
Sony says restoring licenses does not affect data. It can help if a game is locked, missing, or crashing. See How to restore licenses on PlayStation consoles.
Use Safe Mode only if basic checks fail
If restarting, license restoration, updating, and redownloading have not fixed the launch problem, follow Sony’s console-specific Safe Mode instructions. The troubleshooting path includes clearing the PS5 cache and rebuilding its database, or rebuilding the PS4 database. System-software reinstallation is a later option; back up your data before taking that step. Do not treat a factory reset as a routine first-line fix.

If the game is locked or shows a padlock
Confirm that the account still has access
- Sign in to the account that added or redeemed the game, then check whether its PlayStation Plus subscription is active.
- If the game came from the Plus game catalog, check that it is still available in the catalog. A catalog game is not the same as a game purchased outright.
- Restore licenses using the PS5 or PS4 path above, then try launching again.

- PS5: The membership account must have Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled on that console.
- PS4: The membership account must have activated that console as its primary PS4.
Sony says selected Plus benefits, including monthly Plus downloads and catalog titles, may be shared depending on the membership plan. Not every benefit is shareable: redeeming Plus games on another account and online storage are among those Sony says cannot be shared. Use the exact error code to choose the next step
Error messages that sound similar can indicate different problems. Sony lists PS5 CE-107928-7 as a game-download failure, NP-104291-7 as a failure to confirm content license information, and CE-107255-0 as an inability to confirm the PlayStation Plus subscription. Do not assume one code’s fix applies to another; use the code shown on your console in Sony’s PS5 error-code list.

PS5 error CE-109258-5
Sony describes CE-109258-5 as a possible server-connection failure in which content license information was not confirmed. Its recommended checks include checking PlayStation status, restarting the console, restarting the router and modem after waiting at least five minutes, restoring licenses, and trying again later. Sony describes WS-46332-8 as “PlayStation Plus content isn’t able to download.” Its steps include restarting the console, restoring licenses, then powering off and restarting after a few minutes. If the issue remains, contact Support using Sony’s WS-46332-8 guide.

When to contact PlayStation Support
Contact PlayStation Support if the relevant Sony troubleshooting steps fail. Include the exact error code or message, what you were doing when it appeared, and the steps that reproduce it. Note when the failure occurred, and attach a screenshot or video if available. This gives Support specific information to investigate instead of a general report that a game will not work.
