A completed transaction is the foundation for every later step. DLC is licensed to the PlayStation account that bought or redeemed it, so an account switch can make a valid purchase look absent.
Check the account currently signed in
- Sign in to the PlayStation account that purchased or redeemed the DLC.
- If multiple people use the console, compare the signed-in account with the account shown on the purchase receipt or transaction record.

Confirm the transaction in account history

Check PlayStation Plus entitlements
If the DLC or its access is tied to a PlayStation Plus benefit, confirm that the subscription is active and that the item remains available under the applicable benefit. A subscription-linked entitlement can behave differently from a permanently purchased add-on.
2. Find the add-on through the base game
DLC is associated with its base game. Looking only in a general download list can hide an add-on that is available from the game’s product or library page.

- Open Game Library.
- Choose Your Collection.
- Select the base game.
- Open its Add-Ons section and locate the specific DLC.
- Confirm whether the add-on is downloaded. If it is available but not installed, start the download from this page.
PS4 path
- Open Library.
- Choose Purchased.
- Select the base game.
- Use PlayStation Store and then Your Add-Ons.
- Locate the DLC and confirm its download status.
Check when the game unlocks the content
An add-on can be correctly downloaded yet remain unavailable until the game reaches a particular checkpoint or the player visits a specific location. Check the game’s own content or progression instructions before treating that behavior as an installation failure. The absence of a new menu item immediately after downloading is not, by itself, proof that the purchase failed.

3. Fix a download that will not start or is stuck
Use these steps for a download that is queued, paused, repeatedly fails, or never begins. Work from the least disruptive check to the more involved recovery actions.
Open the correct download list
- PS5: open Downloads/Uploads.
- PS4: open Notifications, then Downloads.
Pause the DLC and resume it. A fresh transfer attempt can clear a temporary queue state without removing the game or its save data.
Cancel the failed queue entry and retry
If pause and resume does not change the status, cancel or delete the failed download entry, return to the base game’s Add-Ons area, and start the download again. This removes the broken transfer attempt, not the purchase entitlement; verify the correct account before doing so.
Check free storage and the required space
Confirm that the console has enough free storage for the add-on and its installation process. Use the game’s product details to check the stated minimum space requirement. A queue can remain stalled when the available space is insufficient even though the purchase is valid.

Test the console’s network connection
Run the console’s network connection test and retry the download after it completes. A transfer that stops at the same point or repeatedly returns to the queue should be treated as a connection problem until the test succeeds.
Check service status and system software
Check the PlayStation service status page before repeated retries. If Sony reports an outage, wait for the service to recover. Also install any available system software update, then restart the download. Store authentication and content delivery can fail while an account, store, or network service is unavailable.
Use Safe Mode database rebuilding only after the basic checks
Sony’s PS5 guidance for error code CE-106487-6 includes restoring licenses, deleting the failed download and retrying, and rebuilding the database in Safe Mode if earlier steps fail. Database rebuilding is therefore a later troubleshooting action, not the first response to every queued DLC. Follow the console’s Safe Mode instructions exactly and do not interrupt the process.
4. Resolve “Waiting to install” and compatibility errors
“Waiting to install” is different from a download that never starts. The content may have transferred, but the console cannot complete the installation or confirm that it belongs with the installed game.
Recheck storage and connectivity
Check free storage again and run a network test. Installation can fail when the console needs additional working space or loses contact with the service that validates the content.
Check the region when the base game is on disc
For a disc-based game, the disc’s licensed country or region must match the country or region of the PlayStation account used for the add-on. Sony warns that a mismatch can make DLC incompatible with the game. This is especially important when the disc and account were obtained in different regions.

Reinstall only as a later recovery step
If the add-on still says “Waiting to install,” delete and reinstall the game and the add-on after the earlier checks have failed. Reinstallation requires downloading the content again, so it is more disruptive and should not precede account, region, storage, service, and license checks.

5. Restore PlayStation licenses safely
Sony identifies license restoration as a remedy for a missing game or add-on. Its support documentation states: “Please note, restoring licenses won’t affect your data.” The operation is intended to refresh entitlement recognition; it is not a save-data deletion step.
PS5
- Open Settings.
- Choose Users and Accounts.
- Choose Other.
- Select Restore Licenses.
- Run the restore, then return to the game’s Add-Ons area and retry the DLC.
PS5 also provides a per-game route: from the home screen or Game Library, highlight the game, press the Options button, and choose Restore License.
PS4
- Open Settings.
- Choose Account Management.
- Select Restore Licenses.
- Choose Restore.
- Return to the game and check the add-on again.
6. Use a safe retry order
When several symptoms overlap, this order limits unnecessary downloads and avoids repeating a purchase:
- Sign in to the purchasing or redeeming account.
- Verify the completed transaction or active qualifying PlayStation Plus entitlement.
- Open the base game’s Add-Ons area and select the DLC there.
- Check whether the game requires a checkpoint or location before the content appears.
- Check free storage and the product details’ minimum space requirement.
- Test the network connection and check PlayStation service status.
- Install available system software updates.
- Pause and resume the queue; if necessary, cancel the failed entry and retry.
- Restore licenses using the PS5 or PS4 path above.
- Restart the console and try the installation again.
- For disc games, verify that disc and account regions match.
- Only then delete and reinstall the game and add-on. If a PS5 transfer still fails after the preceding actions, database rebuilding in Safe Mode is another Sony-documented step.
7. Cases that look like a failed DLC install
The DLC is purchased but not visible
Start with the account transaction history, then inspect the base game’s Add-Ons page. A different account, a subscription entitlement that is no longer active, or a game that gates content behind progression can all produce the same “missing DLC” impression.

Verify that the add-on is listed as downloaded for the correct base game. Then check the game’s checkpoint and location requirements. Installation status and in-game availability are separate conditions.
The queue keeps returning to the same failure
Check service status, system software, storage, and the network test before deleting the queue entry. After those checks, cancel the failed entry and restart the download from the game’s Add-Ons page rather than repeatedly selecting the same broken notification.

A disc version rejects a purchased add-on
Compare the disc’s licensed region with the account’s store region. If they do not match, the add-on may not be compatible even when the transaction appears in account history. Region compatibility must be resolved before reinstalling.
8. Separate entitlement, delivery, and in-game access
These are three distinct stages. Entitlement means the purchasing account owns the item or has a qualifying PlayStation Plus benefit. Delivery means the console can download and install the files. In-game access means the title recognizes the installed add-on and has reached the point where it unlocks the content. A failure at one stage can resemble a failure at another.

An item marked downloaded but absent during play points to the game’s checkpoint or location requirements. This distinction prevents an unnecessary repurchase or reinstall.
Record what each screen reports before changing settings: the transaction status, the add-on’s state in the base game, the queue message, free space, and any error code. That short record makes it easier to resume troubleshooting after a restart and gives PlayStation Support a precise sequence to investigate.
9. When to contact PlayStation Support
Escalate after entitlement, add-on location, storage, network, service status, license restoration, and the relevant retry steps have been checked. Support can investigate an account or delivery problem that the console cannot resolve locally.
Information to collect
- The exact error code or message, including capitalization and punctuation.
- The console generation: PS5 or PS4.
- The base game title, edition, and whether it is digital or disc-based.
- The DLC name and the account used to purchase or redeem it.
- A clear description of what happens and the steps that reproduce it.
- The date and time of the failed attempt.
- A screenshot or video of the queue, “Waiting to install” message, or error when available.
- The result of the storage check, network test, license restoration, and any reinstall attempt.
Check the PlayStation service status page immediately before contacting support. If an outage is listed, waiting for recovery is more appropriate than repeating downloads while the service is unavailable.
