PlayStation says error CE-30002-5 means application data may be corrupted. Start by updating the PS4 system software from Safe Mode; if the error happens with only one game or app, delete and reinstall that application. The code alone does not confirm a hardware failure.
1. Update the PS4 system software in Safe Mode
PlayStation’s code-specific first step is to start the console in Safe Mode and choose Update System Software. You will need a USB cable to connect the controller to the PS4.
- Turn off the PS4 completely. Hold the console’s power button for three seconds. Wait for the power indicator to stop blinking and the console to switch off.
- Start Safe Mode. Press and hold the power button again. Release it after the second beep; PlayStation says the second beep sounds about seven seconds after the first.
- Connect the controller. Plug it into the console with a USB cable, then press the PS button.
- Choose “Update System Software.” Follow the on-screen prompts. Safe Mode can update the system through a direct download, USB storage device, or disc. If the console has been offline for a long time or lost its internet connection during an update, PlayStation says you may need to update manually.

2. Reinstall the application if only one triggers the error
If CE-30002-5 appears with a particular game or application rather than across the console, PlayStation recommends deleting and reinstalling that application.

- Highlight the affected application on the PS4 home screen.
- Press the OPTIONS button and select Delete.
- Reinstall it from its disc or from your Library.
PlayStation’s code-specific page does not say whether deleting the application preserves local application data. Before removing it, check whether you need to back up any local data you cannot replace.
3. Try broader checks if the error remains
PlayStation’s general guide for games that will not start lists additional checks. These are broader game-start troubleshooting steps, not a promise that each one fixes CE-30002-5.

- If you use a disc, check that it is clean and inserted properly.
- If the game is installed on USB extended storage, check that the storage device is connected.
- Restart the PS4 and check for a system software update.
- Restore licenses.
- Delete and re-download the game.
- In Safe Mode, try Rebuild Database (option 5). PlayStation says this scans the drive and creates a new database of the system’s content.

4. Back up before considering initialization
Initialization is more destructive than the steps above. PlayStation says Safe Mode option 6, Initialize PS4, deletes all user data. Option 7, Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software), deletes all user data and removes PS4 firmware. Back up important data before using either option, and treat initialization as a last resort rather than a routine fix for this code.

5. Escalate if troubleshooting does not resolve it
If the error continues after the less destructive steps, use PlayStation’s Repairs diagnostic tool to check the available support options. The code identifies possible application-data corruption; it does not, by itself, establish that the hard drive or another component has failed.
