The community PS5 Linux instructions reviewed here do not confirm PS5 Pro support. Before changing boot settings or buying an accessory, identify your exact console model and revision, system firmware, Linux image and loader version, and what happens when you try to boot. General PS5 instructions do not establish that a PS5 Pro can use the same workflow.
Why won’t my PS5 Pro boot Linux?
First check whether the specific project release you are using explicitly lists your PS5 Pro model and firmware as supported. The reviewed community README describes a PS5 workflow but does not state that it supports PS5 Pro, so its steps below are troubleshooting suggestions for that documented setup—not confirmed Pro fixes. Sony’s PS5 Pro guide says, “Design and specifications are subject to change without notice,” but it does not establish Linux compatibility: PS5 Pro Console User Guide.
Identify the setup and the failure
- Record the console model and hardware revision, system firmware, Linux image release, and loader version.
- Describe the observed result: loader freeze, return to PS5 OS, indicator change with no picture, or Linux booted but no controller connection.
- Check the release documentation for your exact model and firmware before applying instructions written for another PS5 configuration.
The reviewed sources do not establish a verified PS5 Pro Linux distribution or loader option to recommend. Changing boot parameters or adding hardware cannot make an unsupported console-image combination compatible.
What should I check in the documented PS5 boot workflow?
Only use these checks if the Linux project and setup you have are the ones whose instructions you are following. That project calls for USB boot media of at least 64 GB and recommends an external SSD. Having the specified drive does not confirm PS5 Pro support.

If the console returns to PS5 OS
The project says to wait until the orange LED stops blinking and remains steady before pressing the power button to continue the Linux boot. It identifies pressing the button too early, or not enabling the required rest-mode features, as possible reasons the console returns to PS5 OS. Follow the project’s own rest-mode instructions for the supported setup you have; these steps are not validated here for PS5 Pro.
If the loader freezes
The README says that etahen/kstuff being enabled can cause a loader freeze with that project. Confirm that you are using the same project and configuration before changing these settings; do not disable them based on this note alone. See the community PS5 Linux project README for its setup-specific guidance.

How do I troubleshoot a PS5 Pro Linux black screen?
If the indicator suggests Linux has booted but the display remains black, the project suggests checking the video configuration and display chain. These are community troubleshooting suggestions for its documented project, not confirmed PS5 Pro fixes.
- Open
cmdline.txtand try removingvideo=DP-1:1920x1080@60. - Test HDCP with it enabled and disabled.
- Try a different monitor or capture card, and test another resolution.
- If the project’s instructions apply to your setup, try adding
amdgpu.force_1080p=1to the command line.
Change one setting at a time so you can identify which change affects the display, and keep a copy of the original command line so you can restore it. The project reports that some displays have compatibility problems.

How do I get a DualSense controller working in PS5 Linux?
Controller guidance differs between the reviewed project documentation, so there is no universal Bluetooth fix or guaranteed adapter recommendation. One README says that built-in Bluetooth is unsupported in its project version and lists a Bluetooth dongle as an optional connection method. Another README reports DualSense support through both built-in Bluetooth and a dongle. Check the instructions for your exact image and release before choosing a connection method: project README and second community README.
Check whether Linux sees the connection hardware
- Confirm that Linux has booted successfully before diagnosing the controller.
- Check whether the system detects its Bluetooth adapter and the controller.
- Use the connection method specified by your image; a dongle is only relevant if that image documents and supports it.
Sony’s PS5 Pro guide describes pairing a DualSense with the console by connecting it over USB and pressing the PS button. That is console setup guidance, not evidence of how to pair a controller in Linux.
