What this fixes: The quest marker can remain on Savlian while he repeats his courtyard command and never advances into the castle. The ring is the important progression trigger reported for this problem in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

How to fix the repeated “Charge the courtyard” bug
- From the courtyard, enter Castle Kvatch instead of waiting for Savlian.
- Move forward through the castle’s Great Hall and the connected rooms.
- Continue to the far end of the interior and turn right toward the Count’s Quarters.
- Find the body of Count Ormellius Goldwine near the bed.
- Open the corpse’s inventory and manually take the Colovian Signet Ring. Do not assume the ring was added automatically.
- Retrace your route to the courtyard and talk to Savlian Matius.
- Tell him that the count is dead and give him the ring when the dialogue option appears.
The castle does not need to wait for Savlian’s intended movement sequence. In reported cases, the quest advances after the ring is taken even though Savlian remains in the courtyard throughout the stalled section.
Where to find the Colovian Signet Ring
Enter Castle Kvatch from the courtyard and keep progressing forward through the Great Hall and adjoining rooms. At the far end of the castle, turn right toward the Count’s Quarters. Goldwine’s corpse is close to the bed.

Search the corpse directly and take the item named Colovian Signet Ring. This manual looting step matters: simply reaching the room, inspecting the body, or assuming the ring entered your inventory may not trigger the next stage.
Once the ring is in your inventory, return to the courtyard. Savlian’s conversation should change so that you can report the count’s death and hand over the ring, completing the castle-recapture objective.

If Savlian still does not advance after you take the ring
First, verify that the item is actually in your inventory and that you took it from Count Goldwine’s corpse rather than merely opening the body. Then leave the immediate castle area and return to the Kvatch camp or the Chapel of Akatosh.

Depending on the current quest state and his location, Brother Martin may be available near the Kvatch fast-travel camp or inside the chapel. Speak with him and check whether the quest progresses. This is a secondary fallback; retrieving the Colovian Signet Ring and returning to Savlian is the primary workaround.
If the count’s body or the ring is missing, or if dialogue and quest objectives have become inconsistent, reload an earlier save from before entering the castle or before the courtyard sequence stalled. Repeating the same conversation, waiting, sleeping, or fast-traveling is not a dependable repair for this bug, although leaving the area can be worth trying before reloading.
PC-only options: mods and console commands
On PC, community-made quest-fix mods and console-stage commands may offer additional recovery options. A Nexus mod has been reported specifically for cases where Savlian becomes stuck after the courtyard gate sequence.

These are unofficial and platform-specific solutions. A mod or console command can produce a different result depending on your current quest stage, and may affect achievements, save compatibility, or later quest behavior. Make a separate manual save before using one. Do not treat an unverified console command as a guaranteed fix, and do not use PC instructions on PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch 2.
Why is Savlian stuck?
The exact technical cause has not been established. Reports demonstrate the repeated courtyard dialogue and the effectiveness of bypassing the stalled movement sequence, but they do not prove whether the underlying failure is caused by enemy detection, NPC pathfinding, quest-stage sequencing, or a version-specific script problem.
Some players suspect that an enemy is hidden, unreachable, or has not been registered as defeated. That may explain some individual cases, but it is anecdotal rather than a confirmed diagnosis. Do not assume that killing every enemy again is always necessary. The most consistently reported workaround is to enter the castle and retrieve the ring.

Is this for Oblivion Remastered or the 2006 original?
This guide is primarily for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, released on April 22, 2025. Contemporary reports of Savlian repeatedly yelling the courtyard command after the visible enemies are gone overwhelmingly concern the Remastered release.

The Castle Kvatch sequence, Count Goldwine, and the Colovian Signet Ring are also part of the original 2006 Oblivion quest structure. However, the precise repeated-“Charge the courtyard” behavior should not automatically be attributed to every version. If you are playing the original release, an unofficial modded version, or a different platform build, the quest may behave differently and PC fixes may not apply.
Bethesda describes Remastered as an updated version of the 2006 game with revised visuals and gameplay refinements. The launch release was listed for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Game Pass; Bethesda’s current product information also lists a Nintendo Switch 2 release dated August 11, 2026. Availability and edition options vary by platform and region. If you are comparing versions, the The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered edition is the relevant game—not a separate fix for the quest bug.

What not to do first
- Do not wait indefinitely for Savlian to move. The stuck dialogue can continue without resolving itself.
- Do not repeatedly talk to him and expect the same dialogue to repair the quest. This is inconsistent.
- Do not assume every courtyard enemy must be killed again. Hidden enemies may be involved in some cases, but this is not confirmed as the universal cause.
- Do not assume the ring was collected automatically. Open Goldwine’s inventory and take the Colovian Signet Ring yourself.
- Do not use PC console commands on other platforms. They are not platform-neutral and can create additional quest-state problems.
Recommended recovery order
- Make a new manual save if possible.
- Enter Castle Kvatch without waiting for Savlian’s courtyard sequence.
- Reach Count Goldwine’s corpse in the Count’s Quarters.
- Manually loot the Colovian Signet Ring.
- Return to Savlian and give him the ring.
- If nothing changes, leave for the Kvatch camp or Chapel of Akatosh and check with Brother Martin.
- If the body or ring is unavailable, reload an earlier save.
- Only on PC, consider a reputable quest-fix mod or carefully researched console recovery after backing up the save.
