If EA SPORTS FC 26 stays on “Searching For Opponent,” first check whether EA or your platform is having a service issue. If services are running, work through low-risk game and connection checks before trying an optional cross-play change. The message alone does not identify the cause, and none of these steps is a confirmed fix for this exact matchmaking problem.
1. Check EA and platform service status
Start with EA’s live server-status page and check EA SPORTS FC 26. Check your console or PC platform’s service status as well. Status can change, so check it while the problem is happening. If an incident is listed, wait for service to recover and retry before changing router settings.

2. Refresh the game and reduce network load
- Fully exit and restart FC 26. Retry the same mode so you can tell whether the search behavior has changed. EA includes restarting the game in its general connection troubleshooting.
- Pause heavy shared use. Temporarily stop large downloads, streaming, or other demanding activity on your network, then try matchmaking again.
- Restart your router. If your modem and router are separate devices, EA advises waiting at least 30 seconds before turning them back on.
These are reasonable connection checks, not remedies EA has confirmed for the specific “Searching For Opponent” symptom.

EA’s Connection Quality explanation identifies ping, packet loss, and jitter as the components of its Connection Score. You can use EA’s Connection Quality Report to review those signals. They can help you assess the quality of your connection, but they do not establish why matchmaking is stuck or prove that EA’s matchmaking service is at fault.

4. Test a more stable connection path
Try Ethernet if you are on Wi-Fi
If practical, connect your gaming device to the router with Ethernet and retry. EA’s general guidance says, “An ethernet cable usually ensures a more stable connection.” A cable is an optional way to test stability; it cannot fix an EA-side service incident.
If you need to stay on Wi-Fi
Try the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands at the location where you play, if your router offers both. EA notes that 2.4 GHz typically reaches farther, while 5 GHz is generally faster and more stable but has shorter range. The better option depends on distance, obstructions, interference, and other network use.

5. Leave advanced router changes until later
If the basic checks do not help, EA’s general troubleshooting also suggests checking router firmware, disconnecting a VPN temporarily to test, and enabling Quality of Service (QoS) if your router supports it. Follow your router maker’s instructions for firmware and settings; menus and available features vary. These are connection diagnostics, not established fixes for this matchmaking message. You do not need to buy a new router or install a PC optimizer just because the search is taking too long.

6. Try changing cross-play only as a reversible test
EA documents cross-play settings and platform-generation limits in its FC cross-play guide. A third-party article published October 5, 2026, suggests turning cross-play off as a possible workaround for this symptom, but EA has not confirmed that it fixes the issue. Disabling it also reduces the pool of eligible opponents, so it can change search times.

If you test the setting, note its current state, change it using EA’s documented matchmaking settings path, and retry. Restore the original setting if it makes no difference. Platform generation limits which players can cross-play, so the available pool is not identical across generations.
