Add “The” in front of each word to form the film titles The Birds, The Exorcist, The Haunting and The Shining. TechRadar writer Johnny Dee recalled, “Seeing SHINING, EXORCIST, and BIRDS was the easy part.” Dee also noted that HAUNTING was a guess; BELONGING and POSSESSION can look plausible as movie-title decoys, but they belong to the property group instead. TechRadar’s April 18 answer guide describes Dee’s personal solving experience.
#1 Best Overall
Blue: things you can pick
The words follow “pick” in different usages: pick an apple, pick a card, pick your nose, or pick a banjo. The banjo connection is musical—“pick” means to pluck or play its strings—rather than selecting the instrument.
Purple: personal property minus “S”
Add an “s” to each tile to get belongings, effects, goods and possessions. The category label describes the words as personal-property terms with the final “s” removed.

How to approach the puzzle
Connections asks you to sort 16 tiles into four groups of four based on a shared link. In this set, familiar phrases and titles create overlapping possibilities: the strongest early clue is that BIRDS, EXORCIST and SHINING can each follow “The,” while the purple words need an added “s” to make property terms. If you are still solving, consider whether a word fits a literal phrase, an idiom, or a title before committing it to a group.
