Most STAR WARS Zero Company problems can be narrowed down without buying a “crash-fix” utility. Work through the checks in order: restore the PC or console to a clean state, confirm that EA or your platform is operating normally, install pending updates, verify PC compatibility, repair the game files, and then reduce graphics load where appropriate. The correct branch depends on whether the game will not launch, shows a black screen, crashes or freezes, or runs with stutter and low frame rates.
EA describes STAR WARS Zero Company as a single-player game, but EA and platform services can still affect downloads, updates, and account functions. This guide covers the EA app, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Start here: the safe troubleshooting order
- Exit the game completely. Restart the PC or console rather than only returning to the desktop or dashboard.
- Check service status. Look for an EA outage and an outage affecting Steam, Epic Games, PlayStation Network, or Xbox services. A service problem can block a download, update, or account check even though the game itself is single-player.
- Install every pending game and system update. EA lists pending updates, old graphics drivers, and a PC below the minimum specification among common reasons a game may not start.
- On PC, check the requirements and available storage. Use the specifications and diagnostic steps below before changing advanced settings.
- Repair or verify the installation. Missing or damaged files can produce launch failures, crashes, freezes, and unexpected errors.
- Reduce background load and graphics demand. Close unnecessary applications, update the graphics driver, and use the conditional GPU settings described later.
- Collect evidence before contacting EA. The exact error, platform, time the problem began, and a screenshot or clip make escalation substantially more useful.
Stop when a step resolves the fault. Changing several settings at once makes it difficult to identify the actual cause.
Why won’t STAR WARS Zero Company launch?
Restart the device and check for an outage
A full restart clears a stuck launcher, suspended process, pending driver operation, or console update state. After restarting, check EA’s service status and the status page for the store or console network you use. A service interruption can prevent authentication, installation, or patch downloads even when an already-installed single-player game would otherwise run offline.

Confirm that the game and launcher are current
Open the launcher or console game-management screen and let any queued update finish. Do not attempt repeated launches while a patch is waiting. EA lists an uninstalled update as a possible launch cause, and a driver update may be required when the failure appears immediately after starting.
Check the PC minimum specification
EA’s published minimum is a compatibility floor, not a promise that every visual setting will be smooth. Electronic Arts states that meeting minimum requirements “doesn’t guarantee that every graphics setting will run smoothly.” A computer close to the minimum may need a lower resolution or reduced quality settings even if the game technically starts.

To inspect a Windows PC, press Windows key + R, enter dxdiag, and press Enter. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool shows the operating system, processor, memory, DirectX version, and graphics hardware. In File Explorer, open This PC to check free space on the relevant drive. If a component is below the listed floor, software changes cannot make that hardware meet the published requirement; identify the shortfall before considering an upgrade.

EA app
- Open the EA app and select Library.
- Find STAR WARS Zero Company.
- Open the game’s three-dot menu.
- Select Repair and allow the process to complete.
- Restart the PC, then try the game again.
EA identifies missing or corrupted files as a cause of crashes, freezes, launch failures, and unexpected errors. A repair compares the local installation with the launcher’s expected files; it does not replace the need for an update or a compatible driver.
Steam or Epic Games Store
Use the storefront’s built-in file-verification command for the installation. The wording and location of that command can change with launcher updates, so select the current “verify” or equivalent repair option in the store where you installed the game. Let verification finish before launching. If the store reports that files were reacquired, restart the computer and test once.

Why am I getting a black screen?
A black screen at startup is commonly associated with an outdated graphics driver, an incomplete update, or a system that cannot comfortably initialize the selected rendering load. First complete the restart, service, update, requirements, and file-repair steps above. Then install the latest driver offered by your GPU manufacturer and close other demanding applications before trying again.
If the game reaches a menu but the display remains unusable, use the lowest practical graphics preset and a conservative resolution for the first successful launch. Once the game is stable, raise one setting at a time. This avoids confusing a display-initialization problem with a performance problem.

EA provides two conditional graphics recommendations rather than universal black-screen fixes:
- Intel Arc: enable Resizable BAR in the system firmware and platform configuration when the hardware supports it. EA presents this as a way to improve FPS, not as a guaranteed solution for every launch failure.
- Nvidia GTX 10-series or RTX 20-series: if the card meets the minimum specification, try turning off Environment Geometry Detail. This is targeted advice for those qualifying GPU generations, not a setting that every player should disable.
If the display is still black after these checks, record whether audio, menus, or a cursor are present. That distinction helps EA determine whether the failure occurs before rendering or after the game has started.
What to do when the game crashes or freezes
Crashes before the menu
Use the repair or verification procedure for your launcher, update the graphics driver, and close background applications. EA lists all three as relevant to crashes and launch failures. Security tools, recording software, overlays, browsers with many tabs, and other games can consume memory or interfere with initialization; close anything you do not need for the test, then restore applications one at a time after stability returns.

Crashes during a mission or after playing for a while
Note the exact point of failure: loading a save, entering a particular area, changing a visual option, or playing for a fixed period. Check for a pending game update and repair the files before changing several graphics options. If only one setting appears to trigger the crash, leave it at its default or lower value and report that reproducible detail to EA.
Freezes that recover versus a completely locked system
A short pause followed by recovery should be treated as a performance or loading symptom; a frozen image that requires a forced restart should be reported as a crash or lockup. In both cases, note the time, what was on screen, whether sound continued, and whether the operating system responded. Do not repeatedly hard-reset a console or PC while an update or file repair is in progress.
What can I do if STAR WARS Zero Company runs slowly, stutters, or has a low frame rate on PC?
Confirm that the hardware is not merely at the compatibility floor
The minimum target is 1080p at 30 FPS on Low. A system that only just meets the CPU, GPU, or memory requirement has little headroom for higher resolution, high-quality geometry, background applications, or demanding scenes. Lower resolution and quality settings first, then test in the same scene so the comparison is meaningful.
Reduce competing workload
Close background applications before launching. EA identifies background software as a possible cause of crashes and slow or laggy play. Keep enough free storage for updates, and avoid measuring performance while another application is downloading, compiling, recording, or scanning heavily.
Use the targeted GPU settings correctly
- Intel Arc owners should enable Resizable BAR where supported; EA specifically associates this recommendation with improving FPS.
- Owners of qualifying Nvidia GTX 10-series or RTX 20-series cards that meet the minimum requirement can try disabling Environment Geometry Detail to improve frame rate.
Neither recommendation is a universal preset. If your GPU is a different generation, leave the targeted option at its normal value unless another official update specifically applies to it.

Understand the CPU-heavy nature of the recommended target
The developer’s Steam FAQ says the game is more CPU-bound than was validated earlier in development. That means a powerful graphics card alone may not eliminate dips when the processor is the limiting component. The same FAQ says the recommended target of 60 FPS at 1440p is best achieved with the recommended TSR setting or with DLSS or FSR upscaling. This is developer guidance for the recommended target, not a guarantee for every processor, graphics card, or scene.
When testing, change one variable at a time: resolution or upscaling, then geometry and other quality settings, then background workload. Watch whether the frame rate improves when resolution changes. A large improvement points toward GPU load; little change suggests a CPU, simulation, or background-process limit.

PC: EA app
The EA app provides the explicit Library → three-dot menu → Repair route. Use it after updates and before reinstalling anything. Record the EA account identifier and the PC details if the problem persists.
PC: Steam
EA’s FAQ says the Steam edition is Steam-native and does not require the EA app. Do not install the EA app merely because the game is published by EA. Use Steam’s current file-verification function, keep Steam and the game updated, and report the Steam account or platform identifier when requesting help.
PC: Epic Games Store
Use Epic’s current verification option for the installed game, allow it to complete, and restart before testing. Keep the Epic client and graphics driver current. If the failure is account-related rather than a local crash, include the Epic account or platform identifier in your report.

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S
Fully close the game, restart the console, check the console network and EA service status, and install all pending game and system updates. Platform services can affect downloads, updates, and account functions even though the campaign is single-player. If the fault began after an interrupted update, allow the console to finish its update process before launching again.
Steam Deck
The developer’s Steam FAQ said the game was not Steam Deck verified at launch. Verification status can change, so check the current official Steam listing before treating the launch-era status as current. Do not assume that a later status change guarantees a particular frame rate or graphics preset.
Downloads, updates, and installation errors
When the problem is a stalled download or update rather than a crash, begin with service status and a restart. Confirm sufficient free storage, then allow the launcher or console to resume the operation. A platform or EA outage can interrupt the transaction even when local files are healthy. Once the update completes, use the launcher’s repair or verification function if the game still reports missing data or fails to launch.

Avoid deleting files manually while an installation is active. If you need EA’s help, state whether the download stopped, rolled back, displayed an error, or completed but left the game unable to start. Those are different failure modes and require different investigation.
When and how to contact EA
Escalate after completing the relevant restart, service, update, requirements, repair, driver, background-app, and graphics-setting checks. Include:
- The platform: EA app, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S.
- Your EA ID or account email, plus the platform username or ID.
- The date and time the problem began, including the time zone if known.
- What happened, written as a reproducible sequence.
- The exact error text, preserving punctuation and numbers.
- Every troubleshooting step already attempted and its result.
- A screenshot or short video clip showing the error, black screen, crash, or stutter.
For performance reports, add the PC processor, graphics card, memory, Windows version, resolution, graphics preset, and whether the problem changes when TSR, DLSS, or FSR is used. For a console report, identify the console model and whether other games or network features behave normally.
Check the current patch information
Electronic Arts’ official updates index listed “Star Wars Zero Company 1.1 Patch Notes” dated September 9, 2026. Patch behavior and known-issue lists can change, so consult the live update page before concluding that a particular fault remains unfixed. Do not treat the existence of that patch note as proof that it resolves your specific crash or frame-rate problem.
