If Supermarket Together lags in multiplayer, first find out whether the problem affects every player or only one PC. When several players experience delayed actions, check the host’s connection first: developer DeadDevsTellNoLies says a stable host connection is important for the other players. If only one computer stutters or freezes, investigate local performance as well, since shop decoration and lighting can affect performance.
Identify what kind of lag you are seeing
“Lag” can describe two different problems: network delay in a multiplayer session, or local frame-rate stutter on one computer. They can also happen at the same time, so use the symptom and who experiences it to choose what to test.
- Several players have delayed actions: Start with the host’s connection and check whether the game or Steam is being blocked by security software.
- Only one PC stutters or freezes: Check that computer’s performance, the shop’s decorations and lighting, and whether its hardware meets the game’s listed requirements.
- The issue began after a patch or other change: Check that everyone is running the current game version, and consider whether a recent DLC, security-software change, or heavier shop setup coincides with the symptoms.
The number of players or NPCs does not, by itself, establish the cause of a particular lag problem. The developer’s FAQ says a developed store may have more than 70 NPCs visiting at once and supports up to 16 players, but it does not present those figures as measured lag thresholds. DeadDevsTellNoLies’ Steam FAQ describes the host’s connection as a factor for other players.
Test the host’s connection when multiple players lag
DeadDevsTellNoLies says in its Steam Community FAQ that “the host -needs- a decent stable connection so the rest of players won’t lag.” If several people in the session have delayed actions, ask the host to test the connection before changing settings on every joining PC.

- Have the host check whether their connection is stable while running the session.
- If the host is using Wi-Fi, try a wired Ethernet connection as a diagnostic. This is a general troubleshooting test; the developer does not say Wi-Fi is necessarily the cause or guarantee that Ethernet will fix lag.
- Have another player join and compare the result. Note whether the delay changes for everyone or only one player.
Check firewall and antivirus permissions
The developer FAQ says some firewalls or antivirus programs can interfere with the connection between Supermarket Together and Steam. If connection problems started after a security-software change, or players cannot connect reliably, check that the game and Steam are permitted by the relevant software. Do not turn off protection wholesale; adjust or verify the specific application permissions instead.
Reduce local performance load
If the host or a joining player sees frame-rate stutter on just one PC, check local performance rather than assuming the multiplayer connection is responsible. Steam’s listing says performance depends in part on how many props are used to decorate the shop; it also notes that decoration and lighting are not limited. A useful comparison is to test a less decorated shop and reduce relevant graphics load, then see whether that computer runs more smoothly. The official listing does not prescribe one graphics setting as a universal fix.

Compare the PC with the live Steam system requirements. At the time the listing was accessed in 2026, the minimum specifications were Windows 10, Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, GTX 960 or equivalent, DirectX 12, and 7 GB available storage. Recommended specifications were Windows 10, Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1070 or equivalent, DirectX 12, and 7 GB storage. Requirements can change, so check the current listing. Meeting the minimum requirements does not establish that every shop setup or multiplayer session will run without stutter.
Try the Browser setting only if the timing fits
If the problem began after installing DLC, there is one narrow test worth trying. On April 7, 2025, developer DDTNL replied to a player reporting lag after DLC installation and suggested temporarily setting the in-game Browser option to “None” from the main-menu options to test whether browser overload might be involved. This was a test suggestion in response to that report, not a confirmed general fix for multiplayer lag. If the timing does not match, prioritize the connection or local-performance checks that fit your symptoms.

Make sure everyone is on the current game version
If players see different behavior after a patch, have everyone check for updates and bring the game up to date. The developer FAQ advises players to ensure that everybody is updated when behavior differs after a patch. Compare the session again once all players are on the current version.
