These are general troubleshooting steps—not a guaranteed fix or confirmation of a specific game bug.
Try these checks in order
Change one thing at a time and launch the game again after each check. That makes it easier to tell whether a step helped.
- Restart Windows and Steam. Restart the PC, reopen Steam, and try launching House of Ashes. Steam recommends starting launch troubleshooting after a fresh restart. Steam’s general launch guidance says game launch problems can have different causes across hardware and software configurations.
- Verify the game files. In Steam, open Library, right-click House of Ashes, and select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files. Let the check finish, then try the game again. Steam says verification can repair missing or damaged installation files. A small number of files may fail to verify normally if they are local configuration files that Steam does not replace. Steam’s verification instructions explain the process.
- Update Windows and your PC’s hardware drivers. Install available Windows updates and check for current drivers for your hardware, especially the graphics card. Steam includes Windows and driver updates among its general launch troubleshooting steps; this is not evidence of a known House of Ashes-specific driver fault. See Steam’s launch guidance.
- Temporarily close non-essential background apps. Close apps you do not need, then try launching the game. This can help identify a software conflict, but Steam does not identify a particular conflicting app for House of Ashes. If closing apps changes nothing, reopen them rather than assuming they caused the problem.
- Compare your PC with the published requirements. Check your Windows edition, processor, memory, graphics card and VRAM, DirectX support, and free storage against the requirements below. Meeting the minimum is a compatibility baseline, not a promise that the game will run without crashes.
House of Ashes PC requirements on Steam
The following specifications are the requirements published on the game’s Steam Support listing. The store’s performance estimates are targets, not guarantees; Steam warns that frame rates may drop in graphics-intensive scenes. View the Steam listing.

Steam also notes that DirectX 12 requires Windows 10 version 1809 or later and a GPU with 4 GB VRAM. This is an API requirement stated on the listing, not a verified launch fix or a recommendation to switch APIs.

When to contact support
If the game still fails after these checks, contact the Bandai Namco customer support linked from the game’s Steam technical issue page. The listing identifies Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe as publisher and Supermassive Games as developer.

- When the failure occurs—for example, before the game window opens or during loading.
- Your Windows version, CPU, amount of RAM, GPU and VRAM, and graphics-driver version.
- Which troubleshooting steps you have already tried and what happened after each one.
What these steps can—and cannot—tell you
Steam’s general launch guidance says, “If a game won’t launch, this is often caused by corruption in your extracted game files.” That describes a possible cause across games; it does not establish that damaged files are behind a particular House of Ashes crash. The guidance recommends broad checks, not a single confirmed fix for this title.
The available official information does not establish a universal cause, a guaranteed remedy, a current title-specific crash incident, or a crash rate for House of Ashes. Avoid treating registry edits, unofficial DLL downloads, administrator mode, disabling antivirus, a particular launch option, or reinstalling as confirmed solutions: the cited sources do not establish them as remedies for this game. A graphics-card upgrade is not a sensible first step without knowing your hardware and diagnosing the failure.
