Blizzard documented a game-side fix that stopped Potent Blood from spawning in the middle of Blood Wells. A town-portal workaround was reported by players during Season of Blood, but it is not a confirmed fix for current versions or dungeon fountains.
Why Potent Blood can be out of reach
The reported bug occurred when a Blood Well dropped Potent Blood inside its center, leaving the reward inaccessible. Blizzard’s patch notes explicitly record a fix for Potent Blood dropped from a Blood Well becoming inaccessible.

Blizzard explained that an earlier hotfix had allowed players to walk through Blood Wells to reach the drops. The subsequent change reversed that behavior and instead kept Potent Blood from spawning in the middle of the well, where it could not be picked up. The note is in Blizzard’s Diablo IV patch history.
What to do if the drop is stuck
- Update the game. Blizzard’s documented remedy was a game update, not a controller, hardware repair, or third-party tool. Make sure Diablo IV is fully updated, then check whether the drop remains inaccessible.
- If it happens again, record the details. Note your platform, game version, whether the fountain was part of a Blood Harvest or a dungeon event, and whether the blood is visibly inside the well. These details help distinguish a recurrence from a different event-specific issue.
- Use the portal tip only as an unconfirmed fallback. A player on the Blizzard forum reported that town-portaling away and returning could change a Blood Harvest event and make Potent Blood collectible. Other comments cautioned that dungeon fountain events might not reset this way. This was a player report, not Blizzard’s fix, and the forum discussion does not establish that it works in current builds. See the Blizzard forum report.
What Blizzard changed about Blood Wells
In the Season of Blood patch history, Blizzard’s patch 1.2.2 notes also describe changing Blood Wells from one pile of 45–60 Potent Blood to eight piles of 5–9 each. The later accessibility change addressed where the drops appeared: rather than allowing characters to walk through the well, it kept the blood from spawning in its center.

The notes establish that Blizzard fixed the issue historically. They do not establish whether it reproduces in the October 2026 live build, so the old portal workaround should not be treated as a guaranteed current solution.
