The “Failed to Retrieve Server Data” message means Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker could not retrieve online game data. It does not, by itself, show that the servers are down or that your game installation is damaged. First check whether other players are affected; then try the least disruptive connection and update checks before changing PC or network settings.
Are Shinobi Striker’s servers down?
The error alone cannot answer that. Bandai Namco describes Shinobi Striker as a multiplayer online action game, so online play depends on retrieving game data. But neither the message nor the available official game information provides a diagnosis of this specific error or a live server-status reading.

Check current announcements from Bandai Namco and your platform, and ask friends or other players whether they are seeing the same problem at the same time. A broader service incident becomes more plausible if multiple players are affected, but that observation is not proof. If only your device or connection is affected, focus first on local troubleshooting.
A historical Reddit post includes the same error wording and a player asking whether the servers were down; it is anecdotal, not evidence of current service health: Reddit discussion.

What to try first
Make one change at a time and retest. These general troubleshooting steps may help isolate the problem, but none is a guaranteed fix for this particular message.
- Record the pattern. Note when the error started, what you were doing when it appeared, and whether other players are affected. Check current publisher and platform announcements for maintenance or service incidents.
- Restart the game and device. Close Shinobi Striker fully, then restart your console or PC and try again.
- Restart your router or modem. After it reconnects, launch the game and retest before changing network settings.
- Check time and updates. Make sure the system date and time are set automatically, and install available game and system updates.
- Try another network, if practical. A brief test on another connection can help show whether your usual network path is involved. If the result changes, that still does not identify whether the cause is the router, ISP, DNS, or a NAT setting.
Further checks for Steam on PC
If the basic checks do not help and you play on Steam, a third-party guide recommends checking the installed game files and reviewing firewall rules. These are later troubleshooting steps, not an official diagnosis from Bandai Namco.
- Verify game files in Steam. Open your Steam Library, right-click NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER, choose Properties, open Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files. Let the check finish, then launch the game again.
- Review firewall access. Check whether your firewall has blocked the game. If you change a rule, allow only the game or its required connection; do not turn off firewall or other security protection broadly.
- Treat DNS, NAT, and VPN changes as advanced checks. Change only one setting at a time, keep track of the original value, and revert it if the connection gets worse. A change in outcome can narrow the investigation, but does not establish a definitive cause.
The step suggestions above are covered in Freedom251’s troubleshooting guide, published May 15, 2026. It is third-party guidance and does not verify that any step fixes this exact error.
What the result of each check can tell you
| What you observe | What it suggests | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Several players report the same issue at about the same time | A wider service or platform issue is possible, but not confirmed by reports alone. | Look for current publisher or platform announcements and try again later. |
| The game works on another network | Your usual connection path may be involved; this does not pinpoint the router, ISP, DNS, or NAT. | Investigate the home network one setting at a time, or contact your ISP if other online services are also affected. |
| The issue remains on your usual network but not another device or platform | The problem may be limited to the original device, platform, or its game setup. | Check that device’s updates, game files where applicable, and firewall rules. |
| The error continues across networks or devices | The checks have not isolated a local network cause. | Contact official publisher or platform support with your platform, error wording, and steps already tried. |
When to contact support
If the message persists after the basic checks, or you are concerned about account data, contact Bandai Namco or your platform’s official support. Include your platform, when the problem began, whether other players are affected, whether another network changed the result, and the steps you have tried. Do not delete save data or start a new game as a troubleshooting shortcut; no error-specific official instruction to do so is established here.

Platforms and update information
Bandai Namco’s official game page lists PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC/Steam, identifies Soleil Ltd. as developer, and displays Patch Version 2.71 dated August 28, 2026. That page provides game information, not live server status. Its description of 4-vs.-4 team-based gameplay is a game-format detail, not a measure of how often this error occurs.
