If Modern Warfare III (MWIII) stays on “Fetching Online Profile,” check Activision’s server status and your platform’s network status before changing settings. If both are operational, test your sign-in and connection, then work through local network checks. The message identifies where loading has stalled; by itself, it does not establish a ban, a corrupted profile, or a hardware fault.
What the “Fetching Online Profile” message tells you
The phrase describes the loading step that is not completing. It does not identify the cause, so the screen alone is not evidence of a ban or a damaged profile. Activision’s known-issues page explains that it tracks reported or identified issues under investigation or scheduled for fixes, but the list dated August 7, 2026, does not name this specific loop. That omission does not prove no players are affected or that no unlisted investigation exists. Check Activision’s MWIII known-issues list.

This symptom has occurred before: a December 2023 report said developers fixed a related MWIII/Warzone loop. That historical fix does not establish the cause or status of a current recurrence. Older forum posts about other Call of Duty games describe player-reported workarounds, but they are not verified MWIII fixes.

Check Activision’s MWIII server status
Activision says to check the game’s server status before local troubleshooting. Open the MWIII connection guide and follow its server-status link. If an alert is present or the relevant service is not available, wait and check again rather than changing router settings.

Check your platform’s network status
Activision’s Online Services page provides platform status options and connection tips. Check the service you use: PlayStation Network, Xbox, Battle.net, Steam, or Epic Games, as applicable. Availability can depend on platform and region, so check the live status for your own service.

Confirm sign-in and test the connection
Make sure you are signed in to the system account used to play. On PlayStation or Xbox, run the console’s internet connection test; Activision notes that it may help identify which part of the connection is failing. On PC, use the connection troubleshooting for your storefront or platform.

Try Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi
If service status is clear and you can do so, connect the console or PC to the router with an Ethernet cable. Activision strongly recommends wired Ethernet for online play because Wi-Fi reliability and bandwidth can vary. A wired test can help isolate a wireless connection problem, but it will not resolve an Activision outage, an account-side issue, or a game defect. Check that the cable length and connectors suit your device and router; buying a cable is optional.

Restart the router and reduce competing traffic
Restarting the router is one of Activision’s suggested connection steps. Pause or limit bandwidth-heavy activity on your network, such as large downloads or streaming, then try MWIII again. These steps address possible local connection problems, not every cause of the loading loop.

Leave advanced router changes until last
If the earlier checks do not help, Activision’s guide discusses trying UPnP or port forwarding, one at a time. It also describes a DMZ test for a console; if you try it, remove the console’s static IP from the DMZ afterward. These are later troubleshooting options, not universal first fixes. Follow the guide for your platform and router rather than applying several changes at once.
When to report the loop
If the official known-issues list still does not include the symptom, use Activision’s MWIII bug-report form linked from that page. Give support useful details: your platform and region, the mode you were trying to enter, the exact on-screen message or error code, when the problem began, and which status and connection checks you completed. Reporting the issue does not guarantee a response or a particular repair timeline.
