Wizards of the Coast has described the design of its franchise-wide Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY set, including a connection between FINAL FANTASY jobs and D&D classes, but its design account does not confirm a Final Fantasy I Scene Box built around Magic’s Party mechanic. A 2025 product guide reports shared Scene Box contents, but does not establish the exact scene variant or its current availability.
What Wizards confirms about the FINAL FANTASY set
In a June 5, 2025 design article, Yoni Skolnik, lead vision designer for Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY, explains that the set draws from the franchise as a whole rather than retelling one game’s story. He describes the original FINAL FANTASY, released in 1987, as built around a party of characters, turn-based battles, character levels, and equipment. That context explains why a D&D comparison may sound plausible, but it is not confirmation of a particular Scene Box or its mechanics.
Wizards discusses several design elements, including Jobs, tiered spells, Summons, villains, and exploration. Its account describes Jobs as a class-like concept and details a Magic implementation involving Equipment that creates and attaches to a creature token. This is evidence of job-themed design in the set; it does not establish that a Scene Box uses Magic’s separate Party mechanic.
What the Party-mechanics claim gets wrong
The GeekChamp article matching the claim phrases its product and mechanics details as possibilities, using language such as “likely,” “might,” and “expect.” Those predictions should not be treated as confirmed card contents, character selections, format support, or digital availability. The official design account supports a connection between FINAL FANTASY Jobs and D&D classes, not the claim that a Final Fantasy I Scene Box goes all in on Party mechanics.
