If THE FINALS keeps crashing, first check what you play on and when the crash began. Embark has a specific workaround for some Windows PC crashes reported after update KB5121003; other PC crashes and console crashes call for different checks. None of the published steps is guaranteed to fix every crash.
Identify what is happening before changing anything
Note your platform, when the game closes, the exact error message or code, and whether the problem began after a Windows, console, or game update. Distinguish an unexpected crash from a game that remains stuck at launch, on a loading screen, or at “Connecting…”; those symptoms may need different troubleshooting.
- PC: Did the crash start after installing Windows update KB5121003?
- Any platform: Does the game keep crashing at launch, in the menu, during matchmaking, while loading into a match, or mid-match?
- Any platform: Is there an error message or code, and did the problem follow an update?
These details help you choose the applicable steps and are useful if you contact Embark Player Support.
Windows PC: If crashes began after KB5121003
Embark’s Crash Troubleshooting notice dated August 17, 2026 says some players have experienced crashes since Windows update KB5121003 and identifies inpoutx64.sys as related. The notice’s instructions are a targeted workaround for that reported case, not general maintenance for unrelated crashes. Embark describes the workaround as temporary while it works on a long-term fix.

- Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Run
sc stop inpoutx64, then runsc delete inpoutx64. - Delete
C:WindowsSystem32driversinpoutx64.sys. - Embark also lists optional registry cleanup at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesinpoutx64. Do not treat registry editing as a routine fix for other crash causes. - Restart Windows.
Embark’s notice does not establish that every crash after a Windows update has this cause or that removing the file will resolve every affected system. Apply these steps only when the KB5121003 issue matches your situation, and consult Embark’s current notice for any change in the workaround’s status.
Windows PC: Troubleshoot other crashes
For crashes that do not fit the KB5121003 report, use Embark’s broader PC troubleshooting guidance, last updated July 18, 2025. Work through the checks in order, testing the game after changes where practical.

- Check minimum system requirements. Confirm that the PC meets the game’s requirements.
- Update drivers and system software. Embark’s checklist includes graphics, CPU, motherboard or BIOS, monitor, network adapter, and peripheral drivers, as well as DirectX and Windows. Restart after Windows updates.
- Verify the game files in Steam. Use Steam’s installed-game file verification option to check for damaged or missing files.
- Disable overlays and third-party software. Temporarily turn off overlays and other software that may conflict with the game, then see whether the crash continues.
- Reinstall if needed. If the earlier checks do not help, reinstall THE FINALS.
- Contact Player Support. Include your platform, where in play the crash occurs, any error code, and whether it followed an update.
PlayStation and Xbox: Check power state, updates, and storage
Embark’s console crash guidance, dated February 2026, recommends checking the console’s system state before reinstalling. Close the game fully; do not rely on rest or sleep mode for a clean restart.
- Power the console completely off, unplug it for at least 60 seconds, then reconnect it and restart.
- Install available console system and game updates.
- If storage is nearly full, free space.
- Avoid launching the game directly after bringing the console out of rest or sleep mode; fully restart it first.
- If crashes continue, reinstall the game.
If you contact support, report the console platform, when the game crashes, any error code, and whether the issue began after an update. Embark’s console crash page was available as indexed official guidance; these steps reflect the details stated there.

If the game is stuck loading instead of crashing
A game that stays at launch, on a loading screen, or at “Connecting…” is not necessarily experiencing the same problem as one that closes unexpectedly. For PlayStation and Xbox launch or loading trouble, Embark’s console launch and loading guidance recommends a full restart, checking PlayStation Network or Xbox Network status, checking the internet connection, confirming game updates, clearing temporary system data through a power cycle, and reinstalling if needed.
Check the relevant platform service and your connection if the game is stuck connecting; focus on the crash steps above if it closes unexpectedly. A loading problem alone does not identify a cause.

When to contact Embark Player Support
If the relevant checks do not resolve the problem, send support a concise account that helps distinguish a platform issue from an update-related or in-game crash. Include:
- Your platform and, for PC, whether you use Steam.
- Where the crash or stall occurs: launch, menu, matchmaking, loading into a match, or during a match.
- The exact error message or code, if one appears.
- Whether the problem started after a Windows, console system, or game update.
- Which troubleshooting steps you have already tried.
Embark’s published troubleshooting pages do not give a crash frequency, affected-player count, or success rate for these steps, so treat them as diagnosis and official guidance rather than a promised fix.
