If your Astro A10 plays game audio but nobody can hear you, start with the physical controls: lower the boom microphone, reseat both ends of the detachable cable, and turn up the inline volume control. On a desktop PC, use the included splitter if the computer has separate headphone and microphone ports. Then select the A10 as the input device and test it before changing game or Discord settings.
The A10 is a wired analog headset with a 3.5 mm five-pole connection and a flip-to-mute microphone, so most failures come from the boom position, cable, port, splitter, controller, or host-device settings rather than headset software. Logitech’s product information confirms these connection and microphone features.

1. Lower the Astro A10 microphone boom
The A10’s boom controls its mute state:
- Boom raised: microphone muted.
- Boom lowered toward your mouth: microphone unmuted.
Lower the boom before testing. Position it close to your mouth without pressing it against clothing. If the microphone remains active when the boom is raised, or remains muted when lowered, the boom-mute mechanism may be faulty.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

The A10 uses a detachable inline volume cable. Disconnect and firmly reconnect both ends:

- Push the gray connector fully into the headset.
- Connect the black connector to the controller, computer, or compatible adapter.
- Turn the inline volume wheel up.
- Inspect the cable for fraying, cuts, kinks, exposed wires, or crackling when moved.
Logitech recommends checking cable seating and testing the headset on another device when diagnosing voice problems. See its A10 voice troubleshooting guidance.
Do not assume every generic 3.5 mm cable is compatible. Wiring and pole arrangements can differ. If the cable is the likely failure, check the official A10 replacement cable and confirm compatibility with your A10 generation.
3. Check the PC connection
Single combined headset jack
On a laptop or computer with one combined headset port, connect the A10 directly. Do not add a splitter unless the computer specifically requires one.
Separate headphone and microphone ports
A desktop with separate headphone and microphone sockets needs the A10 PC splitter. Connect the headphone plug to the headphone or green port and the microphone plug to the microphone or pink port, following the computer’s icons. Plugging into only the headphone output gives you game audio but no microphone input.

- International products have separate terms, are sold from abroad and may differ from local products, including fit, age ratings, and language of product, labeling or instructions.
The A10 quick-start guide documents this splitter setup. If the microphone works on a phone or console but not a desktop, the splitter, jack, or PC audio configuration is a strong suspect.
4. Test the mic in Windows before opening a game
Use an isolated recording test so you can tell whether the problem is hardware, Windows, or one application.
- Open Start > Settings > System > Sound.
- Under Input, select the A10 or connected headset microphone.
- Open its properties and choose Start test.
- Speak normally, choose Stop test, then select Play.
- Raise the input volume if the recording is extremely quiet.
This is the current Windows 11 microphone test path described by Microsoft. In Windows 10, the equivalent privacy controls are under Start > Settings > Privacy > Microphone. Windows 10 reached end of support on October 14, 2025, but these settings may still be present.
5. Check Windows microphone permissions
If Windows does not receive input, open Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and enable:

Also select the A10 explicitly under the application’s audio settings instead of relying on Default. The A10 is an analog headset, so it generally does not require a dedicated headset driver or firmware utility; however, the computer’s audio driver still controls how its analog input is detected.
If Windows cannot detect any microphone after testing another port and cable, use Microsoft’s microphone troubleshooting and Device Manager guidance. Driver removal and reinstallation should be an advanced step, not the first fix.
6. Fix Discord, browser, or in-game chat settings
If the Windows recording works but other players cannot hear you, the headset is probably receiving audio and the problem is in the application or account settings.

7. Fix the A10 mic on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S
- Lower the A10 boom and connect the cable securely to the headset and controller.
- Open the Xbox guide and check chat, microphone, and headset volume controls.
- Try another controller.
- If using a wireless controller, replace its batteries or test a wired connection where practical.
- Fully power off the console, wait briefly, and restart it.
- Test the A10 on another console, computer, phone, or music device.
If the A10 works with another controller, the original controller’s headset jack or configuration is more likely to be at fault. The A10 guide and Astro troubleshooting material recommend checking the controller, restarting the console, and performing an alternate-device test.
8. Fix the A10 mic on PS5 or PS4
PS5
- Lower the boom and connect the A10 to the DualSense controller.
- Press the PS button and open Mic in the control center.
- Confirm the controller headset is selected as the input device.
- Make sure the controller mute button is not active.
- Open Settings > Sound > Microphone.
- Check Input Device and adjust Microphone Level.
- Test in a party.
These controls are described in Sony’s PS5 support information.
PS4
Connect the A10 to the controller, then open Settings > Devices > Audio Devices. Confirm the input device and microphone level, and check the controller mute state where applicable. PS4 and PS5 menu names are not identical, so do not assume a PS5 path applies exactly to PS4.
9. Mac, Nintendo Switch, and phone checks
Mac
Open System Settings > Sound > Input, select the A10 or headset input, and check whether the input meter responds when you speak.

Nintendo Switch
A wired 3.5 mm headset may work for supported in-game chat, but compatibility depends on the Switch mode, game, and voice-chat method. Nintendo’s separate mobile-app voice-chat system can impose additional limitations.
Phone or tablet
If the device has no 3.5 mm headset port, use an adapter that explicitly supports headset microphone input. A charge-only, output-only, or incompatible USB-C/Lightning adapter may provide sound but not transmit your voice.
10. Test the A10 on another device
This is the most useful fault-isolation step. Test the headset on another computer, phone with a compatible port or adapter, console controller, or second controller on the same console.
Recommended Free Tools
- Works elsewhere: the original computer, controller, jack, splitter, permissions, or software is the likely cause.
- Fails everywhere: suspect the cable, headset jack, boom-mute mechanism, or microphone hardware.
Try a known-good compatible cable before replacing the headset. A USB audio adapter can bypass a defective computer analog jack, but it adds another device and configuration layer.
Quick diagnosis table
| Symptom | Likely cause | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Game audio works, but nobody hears you | Muted boom, loose cable, wrong input, or blocked permission | Lower boom, reseat cable, select input, check permissions |
| Mic works on phone but not desktop | Missing splitter or wrong PC jack | Use the included splitter and select the microphone input |
| Windows shows no microphone | Cable, splitter, jack, driver, or hardware fault | Try another port and device before driver recovery |
| Works in Windows but not Discord | App input selection, permission, threshold, or push-to-talk | Select the A10 explicitly and check voice settings |
| Works with one controller only | Faulty controller headset jack | Use or repair the working controller |
| Cuts out when the cable moves | Damaged cable or loose jack | Replace the compatible cable first |
| Voice is quiet | Low input level, poor boom position, or wrong input | Raise input volume and place the boom near your mouth |
| Static or crackling | Damaged cable, dirty connection, or failing analog port | Reseat and test another cable or device |
When the Astro A10 headset is probably defective
Contact Logitech support if the microphone fails on multiple known-good devices, a compatible replacement cable does not help, the boom-mute behavior is incorrect, or the headset-side jack is loose or physically damaged. Warranty eligibility depends on region, purchase date, model, and proof of purchase, so support—not a guaranteed replacement—is the appropriate next step.
Replacing only the cable makes more sense when audio or voice cuts out as the cable moves and the headset works normally with another cable. Replace the complete headset when the microphone fails everywhere or the headset housing, jack, or mute mechanism is damaged.
