If the next objective in Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Rescue Mission is missing, the quest usually has not registered the previous state. Open the quest tracker, select Rescue Mission as the active quest, and complete the objective shown there exactly. This event quest advances through a fixed sequence: an interaction, item check, companion state, crafting delivery, or final conversation can each block the next marker.
Use the ordered checklist below, then apply the troubleshooting section that matches the objective currently shown—or the point where the tracker stopped.

When Rescue Mission is available
Rescue Mission is the fourth quest in a six-week Oogie Boogie event sequence. Dreamlight Valley Wiki lists its unlock date as October 14, 2026. It becomes available after you finish The Ghost in the Portrait and receive the related mailbox message. Because this is limited-time content, the event’s current weekly release state determines whether the quest can appear at all.

- Collect and read the mailbox message that unlocks the quest.
- Check the event schedule if the quest is not in your quest log; a missing weekly release cannot be repaired by repeating earlier tasks.
If those conditions are met, select Rescue Mission in the quest menu before following the steps below.

The complete objective order
The quest uses a strict state sequence. A new marker does not necessarily appear after every conversation; some states require a particular number of interactions, an item in your inventory, an equipped companion, or two separate deliveries. The following order combines the walkthrough from Destructoid with the Dreamlight Valley Wiki entry.

Destructoid staff writer Kacee Fay summarizes the key gate this way: “To complete the Rescue Mission quest, which is a key step for unlocking Oogie Boogie, you need to find all five fake green furniture items, have Zero help you learn some of Oogie Boogie’s secrets, and craft a special concoction to help you deal with him.”
Why the next objective can look missing
The tracker is showing an unfinished subtask
Open the full quest text instead of relying on a map icon or a short notification. The game can appear to stop after a conversation while the current state still expects another interaction, a pickup, a quantity, or a delivery. The objective text is the authoritative indication of what the game is waiting for.
Rescue Mission is not the selected quest
Open the quest menu, highlight Rescue Mission, and make it the active or tracked quest. If another mission is pinned, its marker and instructions can make the Rescue Mission state seem absent. After selecting it, leave and reopen the quest log so the full remaining text refreshes.

The event or prerequisite has not unlocked
If the quest is missing from the log entirely, verify both prerequisites: The Ghost in the Portrait must be complete, and its mailbox message must have been received. Also verify that the event has reached the week in which Rescue Mission is released. Repeating Mirror Lair activities before that release will not create the quest.
Fixes for each stalled objective
Stopped while investigating the decor
Return to the Mirror Lair and inspect every unusual decoration, not just the first one that looks different. There are five fake or odd decorations to interact with. Walk around the entire lair and try the interaction prompt on each suspect object. When one interaction fails to count, move away, approach from a different angle, and try again while Rescue Mission remains active. The tracker should advance only after all five have registered.
Oogie or Merlin will not give the next dialogue
Read the verb in the tracker. If it says to confront Oogie, finish the Ghosties conversation before visiting Merlin. If it says to talk to Merlin, return to him only after the confrontation is complete. Speaking to a character out of sequence may produce ordinary dialogue without changing the quest state. Reopen the tracker after the conversation and check whether the objective changed before leaving the area.

“Equip Zero” is an equipment requirement, not a request to speak with Zero. Open the companion-selection interface, choose Zero, and confirm that he is the active companion. Then return to the objective and check the tracker. If Zero is following you but the state is unchanged, unequip and reselect him through the companion menu, then revisit Oogie. Do not proceed to the distraction conversation until the tracker explicitly accepts the companion state.

The dropped paper or diary is not advancing the quest
After distracting Oogie with Zero equipped, search the lair for the paper or diary that Zero dropped. The item must be picked up through its interaction prompt; seeing it on the ground is not enough. If the prompt is not visible, leave the immediate area, return with Rescue Mission selected, and scan the floor around the location where the distraction occurred. Confirm the pickup in the tracker before traveling to the lava pond.
The lava-fishing requirement remains incomplete
Use the Royal Fishing Rod at the lava pond and keep fishing until you have both required catches: one Lava Core and one Skeleton Fish. One successful cast does not satisfy the state unless it produces the requested item. Check the inventory after each catch and continue until both quantities are present. If the tracker still lists fishing, verify that you used the Royal Fishing Rod and the lava pond rather than another fishing spot or rod.
Goofy’s flower request is unclear
Speak to Goofy while the flower objective is active. The walkthrough identifies the fragrant, perfectly tended flower as a Dandelion. If you already have a flower in your inventory, do not assume it satisfies the request; return to Goofy and complete the specific dialogue so the quest can validate the item.
The Dream Shard count is short
Check the inventory for 10 Dream Shards, not merely evidence that you collected some earlier. Gather the missing amount, then reopen the quest tracker. The quantity check is separate from the flower and fishing checks, so the marker will not advance until all listed requirements are satisfied.

The sprays are missing or the recipe is not visible
Use a crafting station while Rescue Mission is active and look for the Oogie Boogie quest recipe. Craft two Extra-Strength Bug Sprays. Make sure both finished sprays are in your inventory before attempting either delivery; crafting one and visiting Merlin will leave the second crafting state incomplete.
Only one spray delivery registered
The two deliveries are separate objectives even though they use the same item. Give one Extra-Strength Bug Spray to Merlin and one to Scrooge McDuck. Keep the second spray in your inventory until the first conversation and delivery are confirmed, then complete the other delivery. If a character offers normal dialogue, return to the tracker, verify that the correct spray count remains, and try the interaction again with Rescue Mission selected.
The final Oogie conversation is not available
The final confrontation requires both Merlin and Scrooge after their individual deliveries have registered. Check the tracker for any remaining delivery before returning to Oogie. Once both names are cleared, speak to Oogie with the two characters present as required by the objective.
A safe recovery sequence
- Open the quest menu and select Rescue Mission.
- Read every line of the remaining objective, including quantities and names.
- Compare that text with the 13-step order above; do not skip to a later character or location.
- Check your inventory for the item or count named by the tracker.
- Reperform the exact interaction, pickup, equipment change, catch, craft, or delivery requested.
- Reopen the tracker after the action and wait for the objective text to change before moving on.
This process prevents a common mistake: doing the right action at the wrong stage and assuming the quest is broken when the game is still waiting for an earlier state.

What to do if every listed state is complete
Fully close the game rather than returning only to the title screen, then launch it again and check Rescue Mission. A restart is an anecdotal workaround reported for a different Oogie Boogie progression soft-lock; it is not a confirmed fix for Rescue Mission. There is no established guarantee that restarting, changing realms, or repeating a conversation will restore a permanently missing objective.
If the objective is still absent after the restart, submit an in-game Gameloft help or bug report. Include:
- Your platform and game version, if shown in the support form.
- The exact quest name: Rescue Mission.
- The full current objective text, or a statement that no new objective appears after the previous one registered.
- Which of the five decor interactions, Zero equipment state, diary pickup, fishing catches, flower, Dream Shards, sprays, and deliveries are confirmed in your inventory or tracker.
- A screenshot or video showing the quest log and the location or interaction that will not advance.
Describe the sequence accurately rather than claiming that a restart solved it. That gives support the information needed to distinguish an uncompleted prerequisite from a genuine quest-state bug.
