If you see an “Origin download failed” error, first check EA server status, then clear the launcher’s cache if its service is available. EA’s current cache instructions are for the EA app, so the steps below identify that launcher rather than assuming every Origin installation has the same menus.
1. Check whether EA’s service is down
Open EA’s server-status page and check the EA app, the game you are downloading, and any relevant listed platform. The page provides real-time service checks. If the relevant service is down, wait and try again after it recovers; changing local cache or security settings will not fix an outage.
2. Clear the EA app cache
EA says clearing the cache can help when a game will not download, a download or update is stuck at a percentage or “Waiting for download,” or the app has related loading or library problems. It is a local recovery step, not a guaranteed fix for every failed download. Follow the path for your launcher and operating system:
If the EA app opens
- Open the EA app menu.
- Select Help, then App recovery.
- Select Clear cache and follow any prompts.
If the EA app will not open on Windows 10 or Windows 11
- Open Start and select All Apps.
- Expand the EA folder and choose App Recovery.
- Select Clear Cache.
On macOS

3. Check the download location and local access
If service status is normal and cache recovery did not help, check whether the selected install or download destination is available and writable. Confirm the drive is connected, has space, and that your account can access the folder. A permissions problem, disk issue, or security software interference is a possible cause, not an established explanation for every error; these possibilities appear in an older EA Forums discussion.
Review antivirus and firewall blocks safely
Check your security software’s recent alerts or blocked-app list for the official EA app. If you can identify the legitimate application and there is a block, use the security product’s safe, reversible allow-list process. Do not turn off antivirus or firewall protection wholesale, and do not allow an application you cannot verify.

4. Get help with useful details
If the service is up and these checks do not resolve the failure, EA directs users with unresolved cache-related problems to support. Before contacting support, note the exact error text, whether you are using Origin or the EA app, your operating system, the game, the install drive and folder, and whether other downloads work. Those details help distinguish a single-game issue from a launcher, destination, or broader connection problem.
