Start with the fix for your platform: restart your device or PC. On iPhone and iPad, launch the game while connected to the internet; on Steam, verify the installation files and check your drivers. For iCloud sync trouble, restart before changing iCloud settings. If a puzzle blocks progress, the game has a hidden rollback menu—but it is not a general way to restore a missing or corrupted profile.
Start with the official troubleshooting for your platform
Fireproof Games’ Old Sins help page gives different first steps for mobile and PC. Try the relevant steps below before removing the game or deleting local data.
iPhone and iPad crashes
- Turn off your device and restart it.
- Connect to the internet, then start the game. Fireproof says it may deliver updated settings that address crashes; internet access is not a guaranteed fix.
- If the game still crashes, email [email protected] with your device type and iOS version.
Fireproof’s help page states that the game runs on Apple devices using iOS 10 and above. That threshold is not a guarantee that every newer device or iOS version will work without problems.
Android compatibility or Google Play errors
Fireproof lists support for OpenGL ES 3.0 and more than 1 GB of RAM, while warning that some devices meeting those requirements may still be incompatible. If Google Play incorrectly says your device is incompatible, the developer recommends clearing the Google Play app cache and restarting the device. If the message remains, contact support with your device model.

PC or Steam startup and runtime problems
- Restart your PC.
- In Steam, open the game’s Properties, go to Local Files, and choose the control to verify the downloaded game files.
- Check that your drivers are current.
- If the problem continues, contact Fireproof and include the game’s Player log, output log, and a Steam system-information file created with Save all information.
These are Fireproof’s published troubleshooting steps for PC problems. The Steam edition was released on February 11, 2021, according to its Steam store page.
What to do about a black screen
Fireproof’s help page does not give a separate, universal black-screen fix. Apply the general steps for your platform: restart the device or PC; on iOS, try launching while online; on Steam, verify files and check drivers. If a particular scene remains black, contact Fireproof rather than assuming a specific cause.

When describing the problem, note the scene, platform, operating-system version, game version if available, and whether sound or input still works. These details can help explain what is happening, but Fireproof’s help page does not list them as required support information.
Steam discussion participants have reported scene-specific black screens, including cases where sound continued. Those are individual player reports, not proof of how common the issue is, its cause, or a confirmed workaround.

Fixing an iCloud sync problem
If the game is stuck syncing with iCloud, Fireproof recommends restarting your device first. If syncing still does not work, disable Old Sins in the device’s iCloud-enabled app settings. Contact Fireproof if the problem continues. This is guidance for a sync issue; it does not promise to recover a save that is already missing or corrupted.
Use the rollback menu only when a puzzle blocks progress
For a bug that prevents you from progressing, Fireproof recommends checking the hints and reloading your save first. If you remain blocked, its help page describes a hidden rollback menu:

- Choose the rollback point for the room you last opened.
Rolling back means repeating some progress. The Attic point is near the end of the game, not the beginning.

The rollback menu is a way to return to an earlier point when progression is blocked; it is not documented as a method for restoring a deleted profile or repairing corrupted save data. Steam users have reported profiles becoming unavailable after crashes, but those reports do not establish a recovery procedure. Contact Fireproof before uninstalling the game or deleting local files, since those steps could affect data you are trying to preserve.
