What “Teredo is unable to qualify” means
Teredo is a Windows transition technology that helps some IPv6-capable applications communicate across IPv4 networks and NAT devices. Xbox networking may use it for multiplayer and party-chat features on Windows.

It is a connectivity-negotiation failure—not usually a missing game file or a problem that reinstalling the game will solve.

Teredo is not required for every Xbox multiplayer connection. A successful Teredo repair also does not guarantee that a game server, Xbox service, firewall, router, or ISP is working correctly.
Microsoft documents Teredo inspection and configuration through netsh interface.
First, identify your device
- Windows PC: The Xbox Networking diagnostic, Teredo commands, IP Helper, Windows Firewall, VPN, and network-stack steps below apply.
- Xbox console: Do not run Windows
netshcommands. Use Settings → General → Network settings, then test NAT, multiplayer, and network connectivity.
Before changing anything
Check Xbox service status
Open the Xbox Support hub and check for outages or degraded services. A Microsoft-side incident can produce the same symptoms as a local Teredo or NAT problem, and changing your PC or router will not fix it.
If friends on unrelated networks are experiencing the same problem at the same time, suspect a service incident first.
Restart the complete connection
- Close the game and Xbox app.
- Restart or shut down the PC or console.
- Unplug the modem and router for 30–60 seconds.
- Reconnect the modem and wait until it is fully online.
- Reconnect the router and retry Xbox networking.
This can clear temporary NAT mappings and prompt the router’s UPnP service to recreate port mappings. It is a low-risk diagnostic step, not a permanent Teredo cure.
Temporarily remove likely blockers
For testing, disconnect VPN software and proxy connections. Also check third-party antivirus firewall modules, router security features, parental controls, DNS-filtering services, and virtual adapters installed by virtualization or tunneling software.
Disable security filtering only briefly and re-enable it immediately after testing. Do not permanently turn off Windows Firewall. A work, school, hotel, or apartment network may intentionally block Teredo or peer-to-peer traffic; contact its administrator rather than attempting to bypass the policy.

1. Run Xbox Networking diagnostics
Depending on your Windows version, look under Settings → Gaming → Xbox Networking, or open the Xbox app and find its network diagnostics. Microsoft has changed these locations between Windows releases, so search Settings for Xbox Networking if the path is absent.

Record:
- NAT type
- Server connectivity
- Any error code
- Whether the page offers Fix it or Check again
A healthy result should no longer report Teredo is unable to qualify, NAT type: Unavailable, or Server connectivity: Blocked.
2. Confirm Windows and Xbox components are current
Install available Windows updates and update the Xbox app and Gaming Services through the Microsoft Store. Updating does not by itself repair Teredo, but it removes outdated-component problems from the diagnosis.
Windows 10 general support ended on October 14, 2025. In 2026, an unsupported Windows 10 installation should not be assumed to receive ongoing general security or feature support. Windows 11 settings and labels may also differ from older Windows 10 guides.

- Press Win + R.
- Enter
services.mscand press Enter. - Find IP Helper.
- Make sure it is not disabled.
- Start or restart it if appropriate.
- Restart Windows and run Xbox Networking again.
Do not set every networking service to Automatic indiscriminately. Startup behavior varies by Windows configuration, and unnecessary service changes can create new problems.
4. Inspect Teredo’s current state
Open Windows Terminal, Command Prompt, or PowerShell as administrator and run:
netsh interface teredo show stateRecord the Type, Server name, Client refresh interval, Client port, State, and Error fields.
- Type: disabled: Teredo has been disabled.
- State: offline: It has not established an operational state.
- Managed network: Policy or Windows configuration may be preventing normal operation.
- Qualified: Teredo itself is operational; remaining problems may involve NAT, firewall rules, Xbox services, or the game.
- No error but Xbox still reports a problem: The command alone does not prove Xbox connectivity. Run Xbox Networking diagnostics again.
5. Restore Teredo’s default configuration
Use the least-invasive reset first:
netsh interface teredo set state type=defaultThen inspect the result:
netsh interface teredo show stateIf Teredo is explicitly disabled, you can use this sequence:
netsh interface teredo set state disable
netsh interface teredo set state type=defaultRestart Windows and check Xbox Networking again. This restores or changes the local Teredo configuration; it cannot overcome a blocked firewall, router, ISP, or managed network.

Do not force enterprise mode or old server names blindly
Some older troubleshooting pages recommend:
netsh interface teredo set state type=enterprisecliententerpriseclient is an advanced mode that changes managed-network detection behavior. It may be relevant to a specific managed environment, but forcing it on a home connection can hide the real cause and may be inappropriate on an organization-managed PC.
Likewise, avoid blindly setting historical server names such as win10.ipv6.microsoft.com or win1807.ipv6.microsoft.com. Microsoft documents server-name configuration, but old hostnames should not be treated as guaranteed current endpoints for every Windows build. Prefer type=default, then investigate firewall, services, router, and ISP issues.
6. Check Windows Firewall and security software
Keep Windows Firewall enabled. Teredo depends on Windows security integration, hostname resolution, and dynamic UDP behavior; Microsoft describes these requirements in its Teredo firewall documentation.

Check whether a third-party firewall is blocking the Xbox app, Gaming Services, or related Microsoft gaming components. Review its logs instead of permanently disabling protection.
If custom Windows Firewall rules may be responsible, open Windows Security → Firewall & network protection and choose Restore firewalls to default only if you accept that custom firewall rules will be removed. Reboot and test again.
7. Reset the Windows network stack
Use this later in the process, after recording the current diagnostic state. In an administrator terminal, run:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
ipconfig /flushdnsRestart Windows afterward. These commands can reset network configuration and require reconnection to Wi-Fi. They may affect custom DNS, static IP, VPN, or adapter settings, and they cannot repair an ISP-level NAT restriction.
Microsoft provides these commands in its Windows network troubleshooting guidance.

Fix NAT and related problems on an Xbox console
On Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, use Settings → General → Network settings. If a label differs, search within Network settings for the same test names.
- Choose Test network connection.
- Choose Test NAT type.
- Choose Test multiplayer connection.
- Restart the console, modem, and router.
- Check for Double NAT detected.
- Try Advanced settings → Alternate port selection if the option is available.
- Test the console on another trusted network.
Console users generally troubleshoot NAT, UPnP, double NAT, port mappings, and ISP restrictions—not a manually managed Windows Teredo adapter.

Check UPnP and double NAT
Enable UPnP on the router if you want the router to create Xbox port mappings automatically. Also check that you do not have two devices routing traffic—for example, an ISP gateway plus a separate router or mesh system.

Double NAT can cause inconsistent or Moderate/Strict NAT, especially when UPnP mappings are created on the wrong device. Possible fixes include:
- Put the secondary router in access-point or bridge mode.
- Put the ISP gateway into bridge mode, if supported.
- Use only one device as the router.
- Ask the ISP to configure the gateway if it is managed by them.
Do not blindly enable bridge mode if the gateway also provides phone, television, or managed Wi-Fi services.
Xbox Live port reference
Microsoft’s Xbox Live port documentation commonly lists:
TCP: 53, 80, 3074
UDP: 53, 88, 500, 3074, 3544, 4500This is a reference list, not an instruction to forward every port immediately. UPnP may already handle the required mappings.
If you use manual forwarding:
- Reserve a consistent local IP address for the console or PC.
- Do not forward the same port to multiple devices.
- Expect conflicts when several consoles share one network.
- Avoid running identical manual rules alongside unreliable UPnP mappings.
- Do not place the console or PC in a DMZ as a default fix.
Manual forwarding cannot bypass CGNAT or upstream ISP filtering.

Check for carrier-grade NAT or ISP restrictions
Carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT) is common on some mobile broadband, fixed-wireless, apartment, community, and satellite connections. It can prevent the device from receiving the public IPv4 behavior needed for certain Xbox networking scenarios.
Connect the PC or console to a different network, such as a trusted phone hotspot, and test again. If Xbox networking works there, your home router or ISP path becomes the stronger suspect.
Ask the ISP whether your connection uses CGNAT, blocks required UDP traffic, or can provide a public IPv4 address. A public or static IP may help with a specific routing problem, but it is not a universal Teredo fix and may be unnecessary or unavailable.

Hotel, school, workplace, apartment, and public Wi-Fi networks may intentionally restrict Teredo or peer-to-peer traffic. Local commands cannot override an upstream policy.
How to verify the fix
Windows PC
- Xbox Networking no longer reports Teredo is unable to qualify.
- NAT type is no longer unavailable.
- Server connectivity is no longer blocked.
- Xbox party chat connects.
- The affected multiplayer game can join or host sessions.
Xbox console
- Network and multiplayer tests complete successfully.
- NAT is Open or otherwise compatible with the affected game.
- Party chat and multiplayer work.
- No Double NAT warning remains.
If Xbox Networking is healthy but only one game fails, investigate that game’s servers, account restrictions, updates, or Gaming Services rather than continuing to reset Teredo.
When to stop troubleshooting locally
Contact Xbox Support through the Xbox Support hub when service status is normal but Xbox networking remains blocked after device and router checks. Contact the ISP when another network works, the connection uses CGNAT, double NAT cannot be removed, or required UDP traffic is filtered.
Do not repeatedly reinstall games, delete networking components, or download unofficial “Teredo repair” utilities. Modern Windows may not expose the old Teredo adapter model in the same way, and removing networking components can make diagnosis harder.
