The fastest documented fix is to clear the server’s workshop.mods entry, reinstall all installed Workshop content, and then start the server again. Stop the DayZ server first, remove every mod from the command line in your hosting panel, save the change, run Reinstall All in Steam’s Workshop management, and query the server again. This resets a malformed or stale mod list that can make a launcher see Workshop ID 0.

What “Workshop ID 0” means on a DayZ server
A DayZ launcher normally reads the Workshop identifiers that the server advertises for its required mods. An ID of 0 generally means that this information was not loaded correctly. GTXGaming describes it as a mod that is “not being properly loaded on the DayZ launchers,” which is why a launcher such as DZSA may show a zero instead of a usable Workshop item and may fail to build the server’s required-mod list.
There are two closely related causes:
- A stale or malformed server mod list. The server’s
workshop.modscommand-line entry can contain an invalid item, an old entry, or a list that no longer matches the installed Workshop files. - Invalid published metadata. Some Workshop authors have shipped a
meta.cppfile containingpublishedid = 0. Pterohost’s implementation documentation describes this as a placeholder written before an item has a real published ID. If the server advertises that value, a launcher can reject the server or receive an empty required-mod list.
The number does not identify a particular DayZ mod, error code, or performance limit. It is a signal that the launcher cannot obtain a valid Workshop identity from the server’s mod information.

First-line repair: clear the mod list and reinstall Workshop files
This is the documented repair sequence. Perform all five steps in order; skipping the reinstall can leave the same stale files in place.
- Stop the DayZ server. Do not edit the mod command line while the server is running. Wait until the hosting panel reports that the process has stopped.
- Open the hosting panel’s configuration editor. Find the setting or command-line field named
workshop.mods. This is the server-side list that tells DayZ which Workshop content to load. - Remove every mod from the command line. Leave the
workshop.modslist empty, then save the configuration and exit the editor. GTXGaming specifically recommends removing all mods from the command line before reinstalling Workshop content. - Open Steam’s Workshop management for the server installation. Select the installed content and choose Reinstall All. This repopulates the local Workshop files rather than relying on the potentially stale copy that was present before.
- Start the DayZ server and query it again. After startup completes, check the launcher or server browser. Confirm that the required-mod list is populated and that the affected item no longer appears with Workshop ID 0.
Clearing the list before reinstalling matters because it removes the server’s reference to a bad entry. Reinstalling then gives the server a fresh set of Workshop files to discover. This is a first-line repair, not a guarantee that every conflict or author-side metadata error will disappear.
How to confirm that the repair worked
Check the launcher’s required-mod list
Open the launcher you normally use to join the server and refresh the server information. A successful repair should show actual Workshop items instead of a zero identifier or an empty required-mod list. If the launcher still reports ID 0 immediately after startup, continue to the diagnostic steps below rather than repeatedly reinstalling without changing the configuration.

Check the server query after a complete startup
Allow the server to finish starting before judging the result. Querying while the process is still loading can expose an incomplete mod list. If the list is correct only after a restart, the original problem was likely stale startup data rather than a permanent Workshop metadata defect.
Record which item is shown as zero
If the launcher identifies one Workshop item, write down that item’s name and isolate it in the next steps. A single item that always returns zero points to a problem with that item’s published metadata; a changing or empty list points more toward server configuration, a conflict, or load order.
If ID 0 comes back: diagnose the cause
Resolve dependencies and load order
DayZ mods can depend on other mods. GTXGaming warns that recurrence can indicate a mod conflict or a required load order. Put each dependency before the mod that requires it in the server’s mod list. For example, if Mod B requires Mod A, load Mod A first and Mod B afterward.

Do not re-add the entire collection at once. Start with the smallest set that should work, verify that the server advertises it correctly, and then add only a few mods at a time. When the zero returns, the last group contains the likely conflict or dependency mistake. Remove that group, verify the server again, and add its members individually.
Read the startup logs instead of guessing
Use the hosting panel’s Web Console and inspect the DayZ server_console and script_log files after startup. Look for the first error involving a Workshop item, dependency, failed load, or incompatible script. The first relevant failure is usually more useful than later messages reporting that the server could not construct its required-mod list.
When you change the list, keep a note of the exact order and the time of the restart. That makes it possible to match a log entry to the change that triggered it and prevents two separate fixes from being mixed together.

Update after a DayZ or mod update
After a DayZ update, update the server and its Workshop mods before troubleshooting the list again. Then open each mod’s Workshop page and check whether the author identifies compatibility with the current DayZ version. A server and client running different generations of a mod can fail during startup even when the Workshop item itself is valid.
Update the server first, complete the Workshop reinstall if necessary, and then rebuild the mod list in dependency order. If the error began immediately after an update, compare the log from the first failing startup with the last startup that worked; the newly changed item is a stronger suspect than an unchanged dependency.
When one Workshop item itself has ID 0
If the same item reports zero after you have cleared workshop.mods, reinstalled all installed content, corrected the load order, and confirmed compatibility, the metadata may be inside the Workshop item itself. Pterohost’s documentation notes that some authors publish publishedid = 0 in meta.cpp. In that situation, the server can faithfully advertise the invalid value even though your configuration is correct.

Community reports describe republishing or updating the mod as possible author-side corrections. Those reports are anecdotal, so neither action is a guaranteed fix for every item. Contact the mod author with the item name, the exact launcher message, and the relevant startup-log lines. Avoid replacing the item’s files manually or editing metadata unless the author or hosting provider gives you a supported procedure; an unsupported edit can be overwritten on the next Workshop update.

A controlled way to rebuild a larger mod collection
For a server with many mods, use a controlled rebuild rather than repeatedly changing the whole list:
- Stop the server and remove all entries from
workshop.mods. - Run Reinstall All for the installed Workshop content.
- Choose the smallest dependency foundation required by your collection and place dependencies first.
- Start the server and verify the launcher’s required-mod list.
- Add a small group of additional mods, restart, and inspect the Web Console and logs.
- Continue until the complete collection is restored. If ID 0 returns, remove the last group and test its members one by one.
This method separates a bad installation from a bad combination. It also leaves you with a known-good order that can be restored after future updates.
Hosting controls that make this error easier to fix
The repair itself does not require a particular hosting company, but the available controls affect how quickly you can perform it. When evaluating a managed DayZ server or a self-hosted workflow, check for these capabilities:

These controls are operational conveniences, not substitutes for correct dependencies or valid Workshop metadata. A server with excellent latency can still advertise ID 0 if its mod list or a mod’s meta.cpp is invalid.

What not to do
- Do not keep restarting without clearing the list. A restart alone does not remove a malformed
workshop.modsentry. - Do not add every mod back at once. You lose the ability to identify the conflict or dependency that reintroduces the error.
- Do not assume the launcher is the only problem. If the server advertises an empty or zero-valued list, changing launchers will not repair the server metadata.
- Do not treat community republishing advice as guaranteed. It applies only when the Workshop item itself is defective and requires action by its author.
Final troubleshooting checklist
- The DayZ server is stopped before configuration changes.
workshop.modshas been cleared and the configuration saved.- Steam Workshop management has completed Reinstall All for installed content.
- The server has been restarted and queried only after startup completes.
- Dependencies appear before the mods that require them.
- Mods have been reintroduced in small groups rather than all at once.
- Web Console,

- If one item alone remains at ID 0, its author has been given the item name and relevant log evidence.
