The installation is still straightforward on a compatible, older server build: copy the mod to both server and client roots, install SchnitzelPommes.bikey in the server’s keys folder, launch it with -mod=DayZ-SA-Tomato, put Tomato_Profiles under the directory named by -profiles, and complete the one-time #login and /opme activation. DayZ updates have repeatedly broken mods, so test this procedure on the exact build and host panel you intend to run before using it on a live server.

What you need before installing
Have access to the complete DayZ server installation, its startup parameters, the server profiles directory, and the client computer that will join the server. You also need the server’s configured admin password and the Steam64 ID of every administrator you plan to add.

- A compatible mod archive: extract the project so the resulting directory is named exactly
DayZ-SA-Tomato. A different folder name must be reflected in the launch parameter, and a mismatch prevents the server from loading it. - Server file access: you must be able to copy a key into the server root’s
keysdirectory, edit launch parameters, and locate the directory used for profiles. - Client file access: the same
DayZ-SA-Tomatofolder must exist in the client’s DayZ root so the launcher can load it as a local mod. - Admin credentials: the password configured for the DayZ server is used with
#login. Tomato does not replace that password. - A maintenance window: the initial activation requires a server restart, and an outdated mod can prevent a current DayZ build from starting or joining.
The Workshop listing identifies DayZ-SA-Tomato as discontinued because DayZ updates broke mods. Treat every step below as legacy documentation: verify that your server host still permits local mods, custom launch parameters, signature keys, and profile-file edits.
Know the three locations involved
Most failed installations come from putting a correct file in the wrong copy of DayZ. The server copy, client copy, and profiles copy have different jobs.

Install DayZ-SA-Tomato on a self-managed server
1. Extract the archive without changing the mod folder name
Download the project archive and extract it. At the top level, identify the folder named DayZ-SA-Tomato. Do not copy only individual files from inside that folder; the complete folder structure is required, including its keys and Tomato_Profiles subfolders.

- Copy the entire
DayZ-SA-Tomatofolder into the DayZ server root, alongside the server’s other mod directories. - Copy the same folder into the DayZ root on every client that will administer or join the server.
- Compare the two copies. They must be the same mod version; mixing files from different archives can produce a version or signature mismatch.
The server copy alone is not sufficient. A client that has not loaded a matching local copy will normally be unable to join a server requiring the mod.
3. Install the signature key
Open the mod’s keys folder and copy SchnitzelPommes.bikey into the keys folder at the server root. The key belongs on the server, not in the client’s game directory and not inside the mod’s nested keys folder after copying.
After copying, check the final location visually. A common mistake is creating a second nested folder, such as keys/keys/SchnitzelPommes.bikey, which the server will not use.
4. Add the required launch parameters
Add the following entry to the server’s startup parameters:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →-mod=DayZ-SA-Tomato
The value after -mod= must match the extracted folder name character for character, including capitalization and punctuation. If the server does not already have a profiles parameter, add:
-profiles=<path to profiles>
Replace the text inside the angle brackets with the actual directory that will contain Tomato_Profiles. Do not point -profiles at the mod directory unless that is deliberately the directory where you placed Tomato_Profiles.
For several mods, DayZ uses semicolons between entries, for example -mod=ModA;DayZ-SA-Tomato;ModC. Preserve the load order required by any dependencies. Tomato’s README specifically calls for -mod=DayZ-SA-Tomato; do not move it to -servermod merely because the server is managed remotely. DayZ’s general convention reserves -servermod= for mods that are server-only, while Tomato is documented as a mod required by both server and client.
5. Move the profiles data into the active profiles directory
Inside the extracted mod, locate Tomato_Profiles and move or copy it into the server profiles directory selected in the previous step. The resulting path should have this shape:

- 🎮 Collector's Item: Allows for CO/VS functionality for co-op action (cable included). CO/VS multiplayer technology allows two Pocket Players to be linked together for cooperative gameplay using the included CO/VS cable
- 🎁 Konami Licensed Collectible: Includes arcade version of Contra and Super Contra
- High Resolution: This pocket-sized game features a high-resolution 2.8-inch full-color vertical display.
- Powered by either 4 AA batteries or by any micro USB cable (not included)
- 🎵 Built-in front facing speaker, volume control, and 3.5 mm headphone jack.
<profiles path>/Tomato_Profiles/Config/Config.txt
Do not leave the only copy buried in the mod folder if -profiles points somewhere else. Tomato reads its settings from the active profiles location, not from an arbitrary copy elsewhere on the server.
6. Enable the local client mod in DayZ Launcher
- Open DayZ Launcher on the client.
- Choose Local Mod rather than relying on a Workshop subscription.
- Select the copied
DayZ-SA-Tomatofolder and enable it. - Confirm that the enabled local folder is the same version as the server copy.
If the launcher shows more than one copy, disable stale copies and select the one you copied into the current DayZ root. A local mod that is present on disk but not enabled in the launcher is not loaded.
7. Perform the one-time administrator activation
Join the server after starting it with the new parameters. The first activation uses the server’s normal chat input:
- Press
Tto open chat. - Enter
#login ADMINPW, replacingADMINPWwith the server’s configured admin password, then press Enter. - Press
Tagain. - Enter
/opmeand press Enter.
This sequence associates your player with Tomato’s administrator data. It does not change the server password or grant access to every player automatically.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors8. Restart before testing the menu
Close the game, stop and restart the DayZ server, then rejoin without issuing #login. Press M. A correctly loaded and activated administrator should see the Tomato menu. The restart is part of the documented activation sequence; testing M immediately after /opme can give a false impression that the installation failed.

Configure Tomato features safely
Tomato’s feature switches are in:
DayZServer/<your profiles path>/Tomato_Profiles/Config/Config.txt
Each feature has a trailing value. Change that value from 0 to 1 to enable the feature. Leave the setting name and syntax intact.
- Do not alter any text before the equals sign.
- Do not remove or replace the equals sign itself.
- When editing messages, preserve placeholders inside braces exactly as supplied.
- Save the file in the same location named by
-profiles, not in an unused template copy.
Stop the server before editing configuration, save a backup of the original file, and restart before judging whether a change took effect. This avoids editing a file while the server is writing its profiles and gives you a known version to restore if a typo prevents startup.

Add another Steam64 administrator
Use the player-file method when another administrator cannot open the menu or when the normal #login//opme flow does not persist.
- Stop the server.
- In
Tomato_Profiles/Config/Players/, find the player file whose name is that person’s Steam64 ID, in the form<STEAM64ID>.player. - Open the file and change
Admin = 0toAdmin = 1. - Open
Tomato_Profiles/Config/Config.txtand setSetup = 1. - Save both files, restart the server, and have that player join with the matching client mod enabled.
- Test
Min game.
The Steam64 ID must map to the correct generated player file. Check the ID carefully; changing a similarly named file grants access to the wrong account and leaves the intended administrator unchanged.
Managed-host installation
On a managed host, the same files and order apply, but the controls are exposed through a panel rather than a local filesystem. A typical documented workflow is:
Best Value
- Dress in style on Nasdara, Sakhal, Chernarus or Livonia with our design. Built to survive in the badlands of dayz in any zombie wasteland so take a day off and dress to impress with our low insulation but high cool Z inspired design.
- Compatible with all PC gamers or console players. Game in comfort for dayz. Also a great gift idea for any discerning online survival gamers.
- Lightweight, Classic fit, Double-needle sleeve and bottom hem
- Install or upload the mod through the host’s DayZ mod tools, placing
DayZ-SA-Tomatoin the server’s DayZ directory. - Copy
SchnitzelPommes.bikeyinto the server keys directory exposed by the panel. - Enable the corresponding local client mod in DayZ Launcher.
- Start the server with
-mod=DayZ-SA-Tomatoand a profiles path that containsTomato_Profiles, if the panel exposes those parameters. - After the server creates the player file, stop it and set
Admin = 1in the correct Steam64-ID file, then setSetup = 1inConfig.txt. - Restart and test
M.
Panel labels, permissions, and directory names change over time. If the panel does not expose launch parameters, the server keys directory, or the profiles directory, ask the host whether this discontinued mod is still supported rather than guessing at hidden paths. A host may support ordinary Workshop mods while blocking local legacy mods or custom signature keys.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
| Requirement | Self-managed server | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Launch parameters | You edit the startup command directly and can add -mod and -profiles. |
Available only if the panel exposes those settings or support staff add them. |
| Signature key | You copy SchnitzelPommes.bikey into the server root’s keys folder. |
The panel must provide an upload or file manager path to the server keys directory. |
| Profiles directory | You choose the directory and place Tomato_Profiles there. |
The host determines which profile path is writable and whether it is visible. |
| Client distribution | Each player enables a local copy in DayZ Launcher. | The host may document the server-side install, but players still need a matching client mod unless the host provides another supported distribution method. |
| Update control | You can test and pin the exact archive and server build yourself. | The host may update the DayZ installation or restrict files, so confirm compatibility before an update. |
Troubleshoot the common failure points
The menu does nothing when I press M
- Confirm the server has been restarted after
/opmeand that you rejoined without logging in again. - Confirm the client enabled the copied folder under Local Mod.
- Stop the server and apply the documented fallback: set
Admin = 1in the correct<STEAM64ID>.playerfile and setSetup = 1inConfig.txt. - Restart and test again. If it still fails, verify that
-profilespoints to the directory containing the files you edited.
The server reports a signature or key problem
Recheck that the exact file SchnitzelPommes.bikey is directly inside the server root’s keys directory. Make sure the server and client use the same archive version and that the client is not loading a stale duplicate. The key is installed on the server; copying it only to the client does not authorize the server’s files.
The server cannot find the mod
Compare the launch parameter with the physical folder name. The required entry is -mod=DayZ-SA-Tomato. Correct common errors such as an extra nested folder, a renamed directory, a missing hyphen, or a parameter that points to a different install than the one you edited. If multiple mods are present, verify semicolon separators and dependency order.
The configuration appears to be ignored
Locate the active profiles directory from the server’s actual -profiles parameter. The expected files are Tomato_Profiles/Config/Config.txt and, for player permissions, Tomato_Profiles/Config/Players/<STEAM64ID>.player. Editing a copy in the archive or in a differently named profiles directory has no effect. Stop the server before changing values and restart afterward.
#login is rejected
Use the server’s configured admin password exactly, including its capitalization and any symbols. The command is entered in chat as #login ADMINPW; it is not a Windows command and should not be added to the startup parameters. If the password itself is unknown, resolve that server configuration issue first; Tomato cannot bypass it.
Another administrator still cannot open the menu
Confirm that the filename is the player’s actual Steam64 ID, not a display name or a shortened account number. Set Admin = 1 in that file, set Setup = 1 in the shared configuration, restart the server, and have the player join with the matching local mod. If no player file exists, let the person join once so the server can generate the profile, then stop the server and edit it.
An update broke the installation
Because the mod is discontinued, a DayZ update can break its scripts or signatures without any change on your side. Record the DayZ server build, client build, mod archive, launch parameters, and profile files that last worked. Test the combination on a non-production server and ask a managed host whether it supports that exact legacy build. Do not assume that reinstalling the same files will restore compatibility after a game update.
Quick Recap
Operational precautions for a legacy admin mod
- Back up
Tomato_Profiles, especiallyConfig.txtand thePlayersdirectory, before changing permissions or feature switches. - Limit the server admin password to trusted operators. Anyone who can use
#loginwith that password can perform the server’s administrative login flow. - Keep the server and client mod folders on the same known version. Do not let automatic updates replace one copy while the other remains unchanged.
- Test launch parameters, signature validation, login,
/opme, restart behavior, and theMkey on a maintenance instance before applying the setup to an active community server. - Document the exact profiles path. A profile directory can have any name; what matters is that
-profilespoints to the parent ofTomato_Profiles.
