What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If Ubisoft Connect is not opening, is stuck offline, shows a blank window, fails to update, or will not launch a game, start by checking for a Ubisoft service outage. Then completely close Ubisoft processes, restart Windows, test the connection without a VPN or proxy, and clear the launcher cache. These steps are less destructive than reinstalling the client or a game.
Use the section matching your symptom. Ubisoft Connect problems, account problems, and individual game problems often require different fixes.

First, identify what is failing
“Ubisoft Connect is not working” can describe several different problems:
- The shortcut does nothing, or the launcher opens and immediately closes.
- The window is blank, white, black, frozen, or stuck on “Starting…” or “Looking for patches.”
- Login fails, repeats in a loop, or the client remains offline.
- Downloads or updates fail.
- A game launched from Steam or Epic does not bring up Ubisoft Connect correctly.
- Ubisoft Connect opens normally, but one particular game will not start.
- Games appear to be missing after reinstalling the launcher.
- The client works under one Windows account but not another.
Do not reinstall a large game when only the launcher cache or account session is damaged. Work through the least destructive fixes first.

1. Check whether Ubisoft is experiencing an outage
Before changing Windows settings, check Ubisoft’s official support and service-status channels. If login, the store, friends features, and several Ubisoft games fail at the same time, the problem may be server-side or caused by maintenance. Ubisoft’s Terms of Use acknowledge that services can be unavailable because of maintenance, updates, technical problems, or other operational reasons.
If only your PC or one game is affected, continue with the local fixes below. Do not assume Ubisoft is down without checking an official status source at the time of the problem.
2. Fully close Ubisoft Connect and restart Windows
- Exit Ubisoft Connect from its notification-area icon if the icon is available.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- End Ubisoft-related processes, such as
Ubisoft Connect,Ubisoft Connect WebCore,Ubisoft Game Launcher,upc.exe, orUbisoftGameLauncher64.exe. - Restart Windows.
- Open Ubisoft Connect again.
Process names can differ between client versions. If Task Manager will not close a Ubisoft process, restart Windows rather than repeatedly ending unrelated system processes.
3. Test Ubisoft Connect as administrator
Administrator mode can help when the launcher cannot write to its installation or cache folders. It is a diagnostic step, not a universal permanent requirement.
- Right-click the Ubisoft Connect shortcut and select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Launch Ubisoft Connect once.
If this changes nothing, turn the setting off again. A launcher that works only with elevated permissions may indicate a permissions or security-software problem that should be investigated rather than ignored.
4. Check your connection, VPN, proxy, and Windows clock
Authentication can fail when the PC cannot reach Ubisoft reliably or when its clock is incorrect.
- Restart the PC and router.
- Temporarily disconnect from a VPN.
- Open Settings → Network & internet → Proxy and disable an unintended manual proxy.
- Open Windows date and time settings and enable automatic time, time zone, and clock synchronization.
- Test another connection, such as a phone hotspot, if practical.
If Ubisoft Connect works on a hotspot but not your home network, reinstalling Windows is unlikely to help. Investigate the router, DNS, ISP filtering, managed-network restrictions, or security software instead.

- Search Windows for Windows Defender Firewall.
- Select Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall.
- Select Change settings.
- Allow Ubisoft Connect on the appropriate private network and, where necessary, public network.
- If it is not listed, select Allow another app and browse to the Ubisoft Connect executable.
Do not permanently disable firewall or antivirus protection. If security software is suspected, perform only a short controlled test, restore protection immediately, and add an appropriate application exception instead.

6. Clear the Ubisoft Connect cache
Corrupted local launcher data can cause blank windows, startup loops, failed updates, and stale login sessions. Renaming the cache is safer than deleting the whole launcher directory.
- Exit Ubisoft Connect completely.
- Use Task Manager to confirm that Ubisoft processes are closed.
- Find the Ubisoft Connect installation directory. A commonly encountered location is
C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftUbisoft Game Launcher, but your installation may be elsewhere. - To locate the correct folder, right-click the Ubisoft Connect shortcut, select Properties, and inspect the Target field.
- Back up the cache folder if desired, then rename it to something such as
cache.old, or delete only the cache contents. - Start Ubisoft Connect and allow it to rebuild the local data.
The exact cache folder name and location can change with client updates. Do not delete your game-library folders, save-game folders, or the entire Ubisoft Game Launcher directory as a first step. You may need to sign in again after the cache is rebuilt.
7. Reset Windows network components
These general Windows commands can help when DNS data or the Winsock catalog is corrupted. They are not guaranteed Ubisoft-specific fixes.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset
Restart Windows after both commands finish, then test Ubisoft Connect again.
8. Update Windows, drivers, and Ubisoft Connect
Install Windows updates through Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates. Review optional driver updates where appropriate. If the problem involves game crashes or rendering issues, obtain graphics drivers directly from the official NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel website.
Ubisoft Connect may update itself through its installer or client. Download it only from Ubisoft’s official Ubisoft Connect page. Avoid registry cleaners, third-party driver-updater utilities, “gaming boosters,” and unofficial installer mirrors.

9. Try Windows Repair or Reset when available
Windows 11 may expose repair controls for some applications:
Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Ubisoft Connect → Advanced options
Select Repair first if it is available. It attempts to fix the installation without removing local app data. Use Reset only as a stronger step: it may remove local settings or app data and require you to sign in again.

10. Run Windows compatibility troubleshooting
Microsoft recommends compatibility troubleshooting when a previously working program becomes unstable after a Windows change.
Windows 11
- Open Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters.
- Find Program Compatibility Troubleshooter and select Run.
- Choose Ubisoft Connect if prompted.
- Apply a suggested fix only if it matches the behavior you are seeing.
Windows 10
- Open Settings → Update & Security → Troubleshoot.
- Select Additional troubleshooters.
- Run Program Compatibility Troubleshooter.
Microsoft’s compatibility guidance covers both Windows 10 and Windows 11. Do not automatically force Windows 7 or Windows 8 compatibility mode; it can create new problems unless the troubleshooter specifically recommends it.
11. If Ubisoft Connect opens but one game will not launch
This is usually a game, entitlement, or platform problem rather than a launcher-startup problem.

12. Use a clean boot to find software conflicts
Antivirus and endpoint-security tools, overlays, RGB utilities, hardware monitors, VPN clients, other game launchers, and startup services can interfere with Ubisoft Connect.
- Sign in with an administrator account.
- Search for and open
msconfig. - On the Services tab, select Hide all Microsoft services.
- Select Disable all.
- Open the Startup tab and select Open Task Manager.
- Disable enabled startup items.
- Restart Windows and test Ubisoft Connect.
If the launcher works in a clean boot, the cause is probably one of the disabled third-party services or startup programs. Re-enable items in groups, restarting and testing until you identify the conflict.
Restore normal startup afterward
Do not leave the PC in a clean-boot state permanently. Open msconfig, choose Normal startup on the General tab, re-enable the required services and startup items, and restart. Microsoft’s clean-boot instructions include the restoration procedure.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors13. Reinstall Ubisoft Connect without immediately deleting games
Reinstalling the launcher can repair a damaged installation, but preserve your game files first.
- Confirm that you can sign in to the Ubisoft account in a browser.
- Write down where your installed games are stored.
- Exit Ubisoft Connect completely.
- Uninstall only Ubisoft Connect from Windows.
- Restart the PC.
- Download the installer from Ubisoft’s official download page.
- Install the client and sign in.
- Use the available game-location or discovery option to point the client toward the existing game folders.
- Allow the client to update and verify the files.
Reinstalling the launcher is different from uninstalling a game. Preserved game files may be reusable, but Ubisoft Connect might need to rediscover them, verify them, or download missing files. Do not manually delete the Ubisoft Game Launcher folder or game folders unless support specifically instructs you to do so.
14. Resolve login, account, and entitlement problems
Windows commands cannot repair an account that is locked, missing two-factor authentication, linked to the wrong platform account, or missing a game entitlement.
- Check the Ubisoft account email and password.
- Sign out and back in once.
- Confirm that the game was activated on that account.
- Check linked Steam, Epic, or console accounts.
- Avoid repeatedly changing credentials when the symptoms suggest an outage or server-side issue.
Ubisoft’s privacy documentation explains that Ubisoft accounts manage account information and access to Ubisoft services. For account recovery, ownership, bans, missing entitlements, or two-factor authentication problems, contact Ubisoft rather than repeatedly reinstalling the client.
When to contact Ubisoft Support
Use Ubisoft’s official Contact Us page when:
- A clean reinstall does not resolve the launcher problem.
- The installer repeatedly fails or rolls back.
- Login, two-factor authentication, account linking, ownership, or a ban is involved.
- The same account problem appears on multiple devices or networks.
- A specific Ubisoft error code remains unresolved.
- A game is missing despite confirmed ownership.
- The issue coincides with confirmed maintenance or an outage and does not clear afterward.
Include your Windows version and build, Ubisoft Connect version if visible, exact error text or code, whether the problem affects every game or only one, whether another network was tested, and any recent Windows, driver, antivirus, or hardware changes. Provide launcher logs or diagnostic files only when Ubisoft Support requests them.
Quick Recap
What not to do
- Do not delete game folders while clearing the launcher cache.
- Do not permanently disable antivirus or Windows Firewall.
- Do not install registry cleaners, driver-updater tools, or unofficial “repair” utilities.
- Do not forward arbitrary router ports based on a generic guide.
- Do not reinstall a game before verifying whether Ubisoft Connect, the account, or the service is the actual problem.
- Do not keep changing local Windows settings when the evidence points to an outage or account issue.
