If Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is crashing, stuttering, or behaving oddly with a controller on PC, work through the checks below in order: update the game, let its shader cache finish, compare your PC with Naughty Dog’s published targets, verify the Steam files, then check audio and controller conflicts. These steps diagnose common possibilities; the available official guidance does not identify one cause or guaranteed fix for every problem. The support guidance applies to UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection, so state which game is affected if you report an issue.
Start with the checks most likely to rule out basic problems
1. Update the game while online
Launch the game through your platform while connected to the internet and let any available update install. Naughty Dog’s PC release notes document stability and performance changes in v1.1 (October 28, 2022) and input-related changes in v1.4 (July 6, 2023). Check the installed version using your platform’s normal update flow rather than assuming an older patch number is current. See Naughty Dog’s v1.1 notes and v1.4 notes.

2. Let shader installation and initial cache work finish
If the game displays a shader-installation progress notice, wait for it to complete before playing. Steam’s pinned support guidance also lists completing the initial cache as a troubleshooting step. This is a sensible first check when performance is poor, but it does not establish that every stutter has the same cause. Steam’s support thread lists the step.

Naughty Dog’s published specifications give example hardware and performance tiers. They are developer-stated targets, not independent benchmark results or a guarantee of a particular frame rate on every system. If your hardware is below a tier close to your intended resolution and settings, lower the resolution or graphics settings as a diagnostic test. Also avoid settings that exhaust available video memory (VRAM); Steam’s guidance specifically advises checking that you are not over-running VRAM. 4. Verify the Steam installation
- Open Steam and go to Library.
- Right-click UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection and choose Properties.
- Select Local Files, then choose Verify the integrity of the game files.
Steam says this check can address files that are corrupt or incompletely downloaded. Verification is a repair check, not a promise that it will resolve every crash or performance issue. See Steam’s pinned troubleshooting guidance.
Check controller and audio behavior together
A controller can be recognized by Windows as an audio device, creating confusion about where game sound is being sent. If sound is missing, muffled, unusually quiet, distorted, or interrupted while using a controller, confirm Windows is using the output device you intend and close other audio programs that may be running at the same time.

- Open Windows Settings > System > Sound.
- Check that the selected output is the headphones, speakers, or other device you want to use.
- Close other audio applications temporarily and test the game again.
Naughty Dog’s July 6, 2023 v1.4 notes also document audio compatibility controls at Options > Audio > Compatibility. For the audio symptoms listed above, the notes describe changing output mode or increasing latency; restart the game for a latency change to take effect. These are targeted audio remedies, not a universal controller fix. Steam’s device and audio checks are in its support guidance, and the game options are documented in Naughty Dog’s v1.4 notes.

If the symptom is camera jitter while using a mouse and keyboard, rather than unreliable controller input, Naughty Dog’s v1.4 notes describe an adjustment for that specific case: Options > Controls > Mouse Smoothing. The July 6, 2023 notes call it an “Improvement to address camera jitter experienced by some mouse and keyboard users.” They do not establish that this setting resolves controller problems.

The earlier v1.1 notes, dated October 28, 2022, list “General stability & performance improvements,” raw mouse input, removal of frame-rate dependency for mouse camera sensitivity, and changes to motion-blur visibility. Those release notes document what changed in those updates; they do not guarantee that an individual crash, stutter, or input issue will be fixed. See v1.1 and v1.4.
Consider where the game is installed
Naughty Dog specifies a 126 GB SSD for its recommended and higher tiers, while Steam recommends an SSD for best results. If the game is installed on an HDD, storage is a relevant performance consideration; moving it to a compatible SSD may be worth considering if your PC supports one. Neither source says that an SSD is a guaranteed cure for crashes, stuttering, or controller issues. Refer to the developer’s storage specifications and Steam’s guidance.

Report a problem with details that help reproduce it
If the checks do not resolve the issue, use the in-game crash-reporting system when it appears. When posting to Steam support, give a reproducible description and include the details requested in its pinned guidance:

Steam’s pinned post requests these details to help investigate reports; it does not name a single root cause for all crashes, stutters, or controller symptoms. Read the support thread.
