How to Fix Valor Mortis Performance Problems on PC

A cautious troubleshooting guide to Valor Mortis PC performance: compare official requirements, check SSD and available memory, and distinguish old playtest issues from confirmed current-build problems.

Start with checks that are safe and reversible: confirm your PC meets the current requirements, make sure Valor Mortis is installed on an SSD with enough free space, and check whether Windows has adequate available memory. The developer documented hardware-detection and first-boot shader-compilation problems in an earlier pre-alpha playtest, but the available sources do not confirm that they persist in the launch build or establish a universal settings fix. Steam still showed the game as unavailable on October 13, 2026, despite displaying that date as its planned release date, so the launch-day performance picture remains uncertain.

Start with the version and symptoms you actually have

Valor Mortis performance information needs to be separated by build. In an October 2025 announcement, developer One More Level described a pre-alpha playtest with optimization problems and warned that hardware detection could fail and first-boot shader or PSO compilation could affect performance. A later developer reply in a demo-era Steam discussion also acknowledged performance reports while noting that the demo was an alpha build. Those are useful clues about what players encountered at the time, not confirmation that the same issues remain in a later build.

As of October 13, 2026, the Steam store page displayed a planned release date of October 13 but also indicated that the game was not yet available. The sources available for that date do not verify a launch-build patch, current known-issues list, or settings guide. Check the current store listing and the build installed on your PC before applying advice written for the old playtest or demo. Steam’s Valor Mortis listing is marked as subject to changes in system requirements.

This distinction matters when deciding whether an old troubleshooting tip applies. A note about the pre-alpha playtest tells you what One More Level warned players about in October 2025; it does not establish a defect in every later build. Similarly, a report from the demo-era discussion describes one player’s experience at that time, not a controlled test of current performance. Before changing settings, write down which build you are using and whether the issue began after a first launch, an update, or a later run. That basic context keeps an old symptom from being mistaken for a confirmed current issue.

Check the published PC requirements

The Steam and AMD game pages do not show identical hardware profiles. Steam lists Intel alternatives and additional platform requirements; AMD presents its own minimum and recommended CPU/GPU profiles. Treat them as separate source-published profiles rather than combining them into a single guaranteed performance tier.

Source and profile Operating system CPU GPU Memory DirectX Storage
Steam minimum Windows 11 AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel Core i7-11700 AMD Radeon RX 6700 or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super 16 GB RAM Version 12 50 GB; SSD required
AMD minimum Not included in the profile summarized on AMD’s page AMD Ryzen 7 3700X AMD Radeon RX 6700 Not included in the profile summarized on AMD’s page Not included in the profile summarized on AMD’s page Not included in the profile summarized on AMD’s page
AMD recommended Not included in the profile summarized on AMD’s page AMD Ryzen 7 7700 AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE Not included in the profile summarized on AMD’s page Not included in the profile summarized on AMD’s page Not included in the profile summarized on AMD’s page

The “not included” cells mean those details are not part of the AMD profiles cited here; they are not evidence that the game has no such requirement. For Steam’s minimum profile, check your Windows version, RAM, CPU and GPU against the listed entries, verify DirectX 12 support, and confirm that the game is on an SSD with at least the listed storage capacity available. Since Steam says its specifications may change, use the current store page as the reference if its listing has been updated. Steam’s system requirements and AMD’s Valor Mortis hardware profiles are the sources for these figures.

There are two useful cautions when comparing those figures. First, Steam’s published profile includes Windows 11, 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, 50 GB and an SSD alongside its CPU and GPU entries. AMD’s page, as summarized here, supplies CPU and GPU pairs but not those other fields. Do not read a blank or omitted AMD field as a contradiction or as permission to ignore Steam’s listed platform requirements. Second, the AMD recommended profile is a separate, higher CPU/GPU tier than its minimum profile. Neither page supplies a benchmark that guarantees a particular frame rate at a particular resolution or graphics setting.

Meeting a minimum requirement is a comparison point, not proof that every performance problem has a single hardware cause. If one component is below the listed class, that is relevant information to include when reporting the issue, but these specifications alone do not identify a bottleneck or prove that an upgrade will solve stutter or crashes. Conversely, if your PC matches or exceeds the listed profile, that does not rule out a game-specific issue. The available official profiles are requirements, not a diagnostic test.

Use this safe troubleshooting sequence

  1. Confirm the installed build and current requirements. Check the game’s current Steam listing and compare your PC with the requirements above. If you are using a historical playtest or demo, do not assume its profile is interchangeable with a later build.
  2. Verify SSD installation and available space. Steam lists an SSD requirement and 50 GB of storage. Check the game’s installation drive and its free space before trying more disruptive changes.
  3. If the game was just started or updated, let the first run finish. One More Level’s 2025 playtest announcement said shader/PSO compilation could cause poor performance on the first boot. Compare a later run under similar conditions. This only tests whether the documented first-run behavior could be contributing; it is not a promise that waiting will resolve persistent stutter or low frame rates. The developer’s playtest announcement describes that historical issue.
  4. Check available memory and background load. Close unusually memory-heavy applications for a comparison run, then see whether performance changes. Steam Support explains that low available memory can lead to swapping and repeated frame hitches; that is a possible general Windows mechanism, not a diagnosis of a specific Valor Mortis problem. Steam Support’s hardware performance guidance explains the relationship.
  5. Compare symptoms across runs and other games. Note whether the problem occurs only in Valor Mortis, whether it is limited to the first run, and whether it appears as stutter, crashes, low frame rate, or uneven frame pacing. This helps describe the issue without guessing at a CPU or GPU bottleneck.
  6. If performance remains poor, document the setup and report the issue through the current official channel. Record your CPU, GPU, RAM, storage type, resolution, graphics or upscaling settings, driver version, exact symptom, and whether it happens on the first or later run. Use the reporting route shown by the game or its current official support information; a current launch-build route could not be verified from the sources cited here.

For a useful comparison, keep the conditions as similar as practical between runs: use the same resolution and graphics or upscaling settings, and note whether you are comparing the first run with a later one. The point is not to create a lab benchmark; it is to avoid drawing a conclusion from two runs that differ in several ways. If performance is better after the initial run, that is worth reporting alongside the timing. If it is not, the first-boot note has not explained the persistent problem, and you should not keep waiting on the assumption that it eventually will.

Memory checks are similarly diagnostic rather than conclusive. Steam Support’s general Windows guidance says insufficient available memory can lead to swapping and repeated frame hitches. If closing an unusually memory-heavy application changes the behavior, note that result. If it does not, do not treat memory pressure as established merely because stutter is present. The same caution applies to observing the problem in another game: it may help describe whether the symptoms appear elsewhere, but it does not by itself prove the cause.

What the old playtest profile does—and does not—tell you

One More Level’s October 6, 2025 playtest announcement gave a separate low-settings, 1080p profile: Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel i5-8600K, RTX 2070 or RX 5700 XT, 8 GB RAM, and an SSD. The developer described 60 FPS average as an expectation for that profile. The same announcement characterized the game as pre-alpha and said performance and optimization were not yet good.

GPU NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
RAM and storage 8 GB RAM; SSD
Performance figure 60 FPS average was the developer’s expectation for this playtest profile, not an independently measured result or current performance guarantee

This older profile is not a substitute for the later Steam store requirements: it names a different RAM amount and different CPU/GPU tiers, and it describes a different build. Do not use the playtest’s 60 FPS expectation to predict performance on the current game. The October 2025 announcement is the source for the playtest profile and its caveats.

The contrast between the profiles is worth spelling out because the numbers can otherwise look like competing answers to the same question. The pre-alpha profile asked for 8 GB RAM and named Ryzen 5 2600/Core i5-8600K and RTX 2070/RX 5700 XT for low settings at 1080p. The later Steam listing says 16 GB RAM and names Ryzen 7 3700X/Core i7-11700 and RX 6700/RTX 2070 Super, as well as Windows 11, DirectX 12, 50 GB and an SSD. Those entries refer to different published profiles and builds. There is no basis here for treating the older one as a current “low-end PC” target, or for interpreting the developer’s 60 FPS average as a tested guarantee.

How to interpret reports of stutter, crashes, and low FPS

Players in a June 7–8 demo-era Steam discussion reported stutter, crashes, low frame rates, and frame pacing that felt worse than the displayed FPS. One commenter said they were “Barely hitting 60fps at 1080p.” These are individual reports, not controlled tests. They show that some demo users experienced problems, but do not establish how common they were, what caused them, or whether they affect a later build. The Steam discussion contains the player reports and a developer reply.

The developer’s reply acknowledged performance issues and said the demo was an alpha build while fixes were being worked on. That statement confirms awareness of demo-era reports; it does not establish which fixes were made or what shipped afterward. Likewise, an FPS counter alone cannot identify the cause of a problem. A report that describes frame pacing, when the issue occurs, and the PC’s hardware is more useful than assuming that one component is responsible.

In the June 8 reply, developer account OML_Krzysiek wrote: “Hey all! We know about the performance issues, and we’ll working hard on some fixes. Please take into consideration that the demo is alpha build, and a lot of things will be changed before full release.” The wording is quoted as posted, including its grammatical error. It is evidence that the developer acknowledged the demo’s performance reports and characterized that demo as an alpha build. It is not a list of fixes, a confirmation that a particular fix shipped, or a statement about the launch build.

When reading a report that says a game “runs badly,” separate the different symptoms rather than collapsing them into one diagnosis. A low frame rate, a hitch that repeats, a crash, and uneven frame pacing are not interchangeable descriptions. A player’s account can tell you that they encountered a problem, but neither their FPS figure nor the fact that they selected low settings identifies whether the cause was the game, a particular PC, memory availability, or another factor. Keep anecdotes attributed to the individual player and avoid presenting them as a general performance result.

Settings and fixes that are not confirmed

The playtest announcement warned that hardware auto-detection could fail, so a detected preset might need manual adjustment in that build. It also said the low visual-quality preset might look darker than intended. These notes can explain why the pre-alpha playtest did not always select or display settings as expected, but they do not establish that either issue remains in a later version. If the current build provides graphics presets, compare them cautiously and change one setting at a time so you can tell what changed; no particular preset or graphics option is verified here as a fix.

The warning about automatic hardware detection is specific to the October 2025 pre-alpha playtest. It does not mean that every player should override the current game’s preset, nor does it identify a best manual configuration. Likewise, the note that the low visual-quality preset could look darker than intended is a visual-quality caveat from that build, not proof that low settings cause poor performance in a later version. These historical details are useful context, but they should not be turned into universal instructions.

There is also no confirmed setting-by-setting recipe for common symptoms in the sources cited here. Lowering a particular option, changing a configuration file, or using an optimizer might sound like a plausible general PC tip, but plausibility is not evidence that it fixes Valor Mortis. Without a verified current-build fix or tested GPU-tier guide, make only reversible comparisons and record what you changed. If a change does not clearly help under comparable conditions, restore it rather than stacking further guesses.

What information to include in a performance report

If you need to report persistent trouble, make the report specific enough for someone else to understand the conditions. Include the exact CPU and GPU models, installed RAM, whether the game is on an SSD, the resolution, current graphics or upscaling settings, and driver version. State the symptom in plain terms: for example, whether the game stutters, crashes, runs at a low frame rate, or feels uneven despite the displayed FPS. Include whether it happened on the first run after starting or updating, or also on later runs.

It is also useful to say whether other games or applications show similar behavior and whether you made a comparison run after closing unusually memory-heavy applications. These details do not prove a cause, but they help distinguish a one-time observation from a pattern and keep a support report from relying on a vague description such as “bad performance.” Do not infer a CPU or GPU bottleneck from a single FPS number; describe what you observed and let the report be assessed with the system details.

The older Steam discussion is evidence that players used the Steam Community to discuss demo-era problems, but it does not verify the correct support route for the launch build. Use the current official channel shown by the game or its current support information rather than assuming an old discussion thread remains the preferred route. The current reporting route was not confirmed alongside the October 13, 2026 store-status information.

What is known about Valor Mortis performance as of October 13, 2026

The official pages provide hardware requirements, and the developer’s older playtest and demo-era comments establish that optimization concerns were acknowledged during development. Historical player reports add examples of what some demo users experienced, not a benchmark for the current release. The reviewed sources do not provide an independently measured Valor Mortis performance benchmark or establish a current, universal fix. Steam’s listing still showed the game as unavailable on the date observed, leaving the launch-build status uncertain. The Steam listing is the source for its displayed status and requirements.

For a reader troubleshooting now, the practical takeaway is to start with the current store requirements, SSD installation and available memory, then compare first and later runs if the game has just been launched or updated. The historical shader/PSO and hardware-detection warnings are reasons to check the situation carefully, not promises of a solution. If symptoms persist, document the configuration and timing, then use the current official reporting route. Avoid spending money or making invasive changes on the assumption that an unverified cause has already been identified.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the current minimum PC requirements for Valor Mortis?

Steam lists Windows 11, 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, 50 GB of storage and an SSD, plus an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel Core i7-11700 CPU and an AMD Radeon RX 6700 or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super GPU. Steam says its specifications may change, so check the current listing. AMD’s game page publishes separate CPU/GPU profiles and does not include all of Steam’s platform details.

Can the first launch cause stuttering in Valor Mortis?

One More Level’s October 2025 pre-alpha playtest announcement warned that shader or PSO compilation could cause poor performance on the first boot. That is a historical build note, not confirmation that the issue affects the current build. If you have just launched or updated the game, compare a later run under similar conditions, but do not assume that waiting will fix persistent stutter.

Does the developer’s 60 FPS figure guarantee that Valor Mortis will run at 60 FPS?

No. The 60 FPS average was described as an expectation for an October 2025 pre-alpha playtest profile at low settings and 1080p, with a Ryzen 5 2600 or Core i5-8600K, RTX 2070 or RX 5700 XT, 8 GB RAM and an SSD. It was not an independently measured benchmark or a current performance guarantee.

What should I do if Valor Mortis keeps stuttering or crashing?

Check the current requirements, confirm the game is installed on an SSD with enough free space, and check available memory. Note whether the symptom occurs on first and later runs and whether other games show similar behavior. If it persists, report the CPU, GPU, RAM, storage type, resolution, graphics or upscaling settings, driver version, and exact symptom through the game’s current official support channel.

Is there a confirmed graphics setting or upgrade that fixes Valor Mortis performance?

The sources cited here do not establish a current settings recipe, a repeatable fix for crashes or stuttering, or a hardware upgrade that resolves the problem. The developer’s hardware auto-detection warning applies to the historical pre-alpha playtest. Avoid treating a particular preset, new CPU or GPU, shader-cache deletion, configuration edit, or third-party optimizer as a verified universal fix.

The Bottom Line

Check Valor Mortis’s current Steam requirements, SSD installation and available memory before making changes. The developer documented first-boot shader/PSO and hardware-detection issues in an October 2025 pre-alpha playtest, but the reviewed sources do not confirm that they persist or verify a current universal fix. If the problem continues, record your PC details and exact symptoms and report them through the current official channel.
