The cause depends on your PC and the exact symptom; there is no single fix that applies to every launch failure. These steps are for PC. Console issues need platform-specific guidance.
Start with a restart and verify the game files
Restart your PC first. Then verify the installation in the store or app where you own the game. A failed or interrupted update can leave a damaged file behind.
- Steam: Library → right-click Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
- Epic Games Store: Library → select the three-dot menu beside the game → Manage → Verify.
- Xbox app: open the game’s Manage page → Files → Verify and repair.

Rule out overlays, background utilities, and USB conflicts
Temporarily turn off overlays and close utilities that hook into games. Test one change at a time where practical, so you can identify a conflict rather than leave software disabled unnecessarily.

- Disable overlays from Discord, Steam, NVIDIA App, and AMD Adrenalin.
- Close peripheral or RGB utilities such as Corsair iCUE, Razer Synapse, and Logitech G HUB. Focus Entertainment’s older PC guide also names RTSS RivaTuner and the NVIDIA GeForce Experience performance overlay.
- As a diagnostic step, pause third-party antivirus briefly; do not leave protection broadly disabled.
- Disconnect unnecessary USB devices. If the crash is immediate, try launching with only a mouse and keyboard, then reconnect the controller after reaching the main menu. Saber warns that “Conflicting USB drivers can block startup or cause input stutter.”
If you play on a laptop, check that the game is using the intended graphics adapter; a system with integrated and discrete GPUs may select the wrong one. Focus lists this and the additional overlay checks in its PC (COMMON) guide, updated September 3, 2024.
Clear the graphics shader cache
A damaged or stale shader cache can be worth ruling out. Use the instructions for your GPU vendor:

- NVIDIA: press Windows key + R, enter
%localappdata%NVIDIADXCache, and delete the folder’s contents. Repeat for%localappdata%NVIDIAGLCache. - AMD: open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and go to Settings → Graphics → Advanced → Reset Shader Cache.
The first launch after clearing the cache can take longer while shaders rebuild, and brief stutter may occur. Do not interrupt the launch just because it is slower than usual.
Check Windows, hardware, and storage against the requirements
Compare your PC with Saber’s published requirements before moving to more involved fixes. The game requires an SSD according to the official PC requirements.

The requirements page does not display a publication year for these figures. Saber notes that technical support may not be available for systems below minimum requirements. If the game is installed on a hard drive rather than an SSD, move it to a compatible SSD; check your system’s supported form factor and interface before buying storage.
Also install available Windows updates. Focus’s September 3, 2024 guide says Windows 10 must be above version 1507 and notes that older versions may produce error 0xc0000139L. If you see a missing-file error, its guide suggests checking Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributables and DirectX components. These are conditional checks, not universal startup fixes.

Apply Saber’s startup-specific troubleshooting steps
If the quick checks do not work, follow Saber’s dedicated PC launch sequence: antivirus exclusion, clean graphics-driver installation, clean boot, then reinstall. The steps are ordered from narrower checks to more disruptive ones in Saber’s “Not Launching (PC)” guide.
Add an antivirus exclusion
Antivirus software can block the game or Easy Anti-Cheat before the main menu appears. Add the Space Marine 2 installation folder to your antivirus exclusions if you have reason to suspect it is blocking the launch. If you use Windows Security, check Protection history for a blocked game executable. Prefer a targeted folder exclusion over leaving antivirus disabled.

Clean-install the graphics driver
Install the current graphics driver from your GPU manufacturer using its clean-install option, then restart the PC. Driver installation screens and options differ by vendor, so use the instructions for your NVIDIA or AMD hardware rather than a third-party driver tool.
Use a Windows clean boot to isolate software conflicts
A clean boot starts Windows with a reduced set of services and startup programs. If Space Marine 2 launches in that state, re-enable startup programs a few at a time to find the conflict. Saber’s guide puts it this way: “If it starts, re-enable your startup programs a few at a time to find the one responsible.” Follow Microsoft’s instructions for your Windows version and avoid disabling items you do not recognize.
Reinstall only after the earlier steps fail
Reinstalling takes longer and should come after the preceding checks. Saber says game progress is tied to the account and cloud saves rather than local game files. Confirm that you can access the account used for the game before uninstalling.
Send support the details needed to investigate
If the official steps do not resolve the crash, report it through Saber’s Space Marine 2 support route. Include a screenshot or short video of the failure and your KSID, which appears at the lower left of the in-game pause menu. If you cannot reach the menu, say so in the report and provide the platform/storefront, Windows version, hardware, exact error text, and what happens after you press Play.
