Use the tournament’s official draw to see who a player could face next, the official live-score page to follow a match, and the order of play to check when and where the next match is scheduled. In a standard knockout draw, follow the winner’s next match slot round by round—but treat future opponents as possibilities until their matches are decided.
How do I follow a player through a tennis draw?
- Open the official event draw. Start on the tournament or tour website and choose the right competition: for example, men’s or women’s singles, doubles, qualifying, juniors, or wheelchair tennis. Events can have separate draws for each category; Roland-Garros’ official draws page illustrates the range of categories and rounds available: Roland-Garros draws.
- Find the player and note the current matchup. Use the draw’s player search if available, or scan the bracket. Check the round and the opponent shown opposite the player. A seed number identifies a seeded player; by itself, it does not mean the player has won a match or is guaranteed to reach a particular round.
- Trace the next match slot. In a standard knockout tournament, the winner advances and the loser is eliminated. Follow the bracket line from the player’s match to the slot for its winner, then repeat for each round. Later opponents may depend on matches that have not yet been played, so the draw shows possible routes rather than a confirmed future schedule. For the basic knockout rule, see the WTA guide to draws, schedules, and results.
- Confirm results as they happen. Check the official tournament or tour live-score page during play, then verify the completed result in the draw. The ITF points fans to live scores for current World Tennis Tour matches and publishes completed tournament results: ITF live scores and results.
Where can I see the live score and next match?
Use different official views for different questions. The draw shows how matches connect; live scores show the status of a match in progress; and the order of play gives the expected court and timing for scheduled matches.

Check the order of play on match day
A draw does not tell you when a player will take the court. Consult the tournament’s order of play, and check it again on the day: schedules can change, and later matches may be listed as “not before” a stated time because earlier matches can run for unpredictable lengths. The WTA says the following day’s order of play is typically released each afternoon or evening; its draw and schedule guide explains how to follow updates.
What does the score format tell me?
Set format depends on the event. In a 2023 explainer, the WTA describes regular ATP and WTA Tour matches as best of three sets and men’s Grand Slam matches as best of five. Doubles and special events can use different formats, so check the current event rules if the format affects how you interpret a score: WTA guide to draws, schedules, and results.

What if the tournament has groups instead of a straight knockout?
Not every event follows a simple bracket from the opening round onward. At the Nitto ATP Finals, eight players or teams are divided into two groups of four. Each plays the other three in its group; the top two in each group advance to cross-group semifinals, and the semifinal winners meet in the final. Follow both match results and group standings, and consult the event’s rules for tie-break procedures if players finish level: Nitto ATP Finals rules and format.

Here, it means the sequence of matches and possible opponents within one tournament. That is different from the World Tennis Tour’s role in a player’s longer development: the ITF describes that tour as a route between junior tennis and elite professional events, with results counting toward ATP and WTA rankings. The distinction matters because a tournament bracket tracks progress in one event, not a player’s overall career: ITF explanation of the World Tennis Tour.
