Recommended Free Tools
For a broad view of current MLB moves, start with MLB.com’s Hot Stove tracker. Use MLB Trade Rumors’ Transaction Tracker when you need to search contract years or reported value, and check a dated team or league announcement before relying on a consequential detail. Each tracker helps you find and organize information; none is established here as always first or complete.
Choose a tracker for the question you have
| Resource | Best use | What it shows or lets you search |
|---|---|---|
| MLB.com Hot Stove | Browse league-wide free-agent signings and roster moves | Players, positions, prior and new teams, transaction dates and notes; filters for move status, teams and position. |
| MLB Trade Rumors Transaction Tracker | Search transaction and contract-oriented records | Search fields include player, team, transaction type, date range, free-agent type, contract years and contract value. |
| FanGraphs RosterResource Transaction Tracker | View moves by team and distinguish move categories | Categories include free agency, trades, extensions, waivers, DFA, promotions and demotions. |
| Baseball Savant career transactions | Review a player’s career movement history | The page states that its transaction information was obtained from Retrosheet; that statement applies to this page’s data source and scope. |
Follow current moves in three steps
- Start broad: Open MLB.com’s Hot Stove tracker and use its status, team or position filters to narrow the league-wide list.
- Search the details you need: If the question is about contract length, reported value, transaction type or a date range, try MLB Trade Rumors’ tracker. For team-oriented browsing or move categories such as waivers and promotions, use FanGraphs RosterResource.
- Verify important claims: Find the dated announcement from the club or MLB when the exact terms or status matter. Trackers are useful discovery tools, but the available information does not establish a guaranteed update order, speed comparison, or complete coverage.
Check what a contract record actually says
A searchable contract field is useful for locating reported years or value, but a tracker entry is not the same thing as an official announcement. Keep the status and attribution precise: a deal described as agreed, pending a physical, or official should not automatically be rewritten as “signed.” For a disputed move or exact term, compare the tracker record with the dated team or league announcement.

Use the right kind of source for career history or viewing
Baseball Savant’s career transactions view is aimed at a player’s movement history, rather than serving as the primary starting point for broad current free-agent browsing. Its page says its transaction information was obtained from Retrosheet, a qualification specific to that page and its data.
MLB.TV is a viewing service, not a transaction database. It may be relevant if you want to watch a player after a move, but it does not verify roster changes or contract terms.

What the trackers do not establish
The listed features support choosing a tracker by task, not ranking it as universally most accurate or fastest. The available information does not establish relative update latency, completeness, or a formal accuracy ranking. Tracker records can change, so use a dated official announcement when you need a reliable confirmation of a particular move or deal.
