FTC Fortnite Refund: The Claim Deadline Has Passed

The FTC is no longer accepting Fortnite refund claims. On-time claimants can check the FTC’s updates, while anyone receiving a payment should note the 30-day PayPal and 90-day check windows.

You can no longer file a new claim for the FTC’s Fortnite refund. The deadline was July 9, 2025, and the Federal Trade Commission says it is no longer accepting claims. If you applied on time, your next steps depend on when you filed and how you chose to receive payment.

What should you do if you already filed a claim?

If you filed after February 14, 2025, the FTC says you do not need to do anything else right now. It is reviewing and validating claims and expects to send additional payments in 2026, but has not announced a specific payment date. Check the FTC’s Fortnite Refunds page for updates.

The FTC reported a June 2025 payment round of 969,173 payments totaling more than $126 million. That round covered players with valid claims filed by February 14, 2025; it does not establish what any individual claimant will receive. The FTC had reopened claims through July 9, 2025, but that window is now closed. The FTC’s June 2025 announcement gives the round’s details.

How long do you have to accept a payment?

If the FTC sends you a payment, use the method you selected when you filed. The FTC says a check must be cashed within 90 days and a PayPal payment accepted within 30 days. For payment questions, call the refund administrator at 1-833-915-0880.

Who met the settlement’s eligibility criteria?

The criteria below explain who could have applied before the deadline; they do not make a new claim possible now. The FTC said the refund program covered people affected by certain Fortnite charges or account actions during these periods:

  • Unwanted in-game currency charges for unwanted items from January 2017 through September 2022.
  • A child charging a credit card without a parent’s knowledge from January 2017 through November 2018.
  • An account lock after a complaint to a credit-card company about wrongful charges from January 2017 through September 2022.

The person submitting a claim had to be at least 18. A parent or guardian had to submit for someone younger. The FTC’s refund page has the current status and program information.

Why did the FTC issue Fortnite refunds?

The refunds stem from Epic Games’ settlement with the FTC. The agency alleged that Epic charged players for unwanted purchases, allowed children’s charges without parental permission, and restricted account access after some users disputed charges. Under the settlement, Epic was also required to obtain positive consent before charging users and was prohibited from locking players out of accounts for disputing unauthorized charges. These are allegations and settlement terms as described by the FTC, not a statement here that the allegations were independently adjudicated.

For context, the FTC reported that its December 2024 payment round issued 629,344 payments totaling more than $72 million, with an average payment of about $114. That was an average for that round, not a guaranteed amount for any claimant. The FTC refund page is the place to check current payment information.

Fortnite Physical Gift Card
  • An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
  • If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
  • The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
  • Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

How can you avoid Fortnite refund scams?

Do not pay anyone to file a claim or obtain a refund. The FTC says it will never require payment for either. Its consumer alert warns: “If you get an email or text message that tells you to click a link or pay to get your refund, it’s a scam.” Avoid links in unsolicited messages and use the official FTC refunds page or the administrator number above instead. Read the FTC consumer alert about unwanted Fortnite charges for its guidance.
