Is there a free Borderlands 4 Golden Key code right now?
No active Golden Key code was officially confirmed as of October 8, 2026. Gearbox’s official March 30, 2026 offer granted five Golden Keys with code 3ZR3T-6CSKW-WFTJC-JB33B-Z55ZT, but it expired on April 30, 2026; it is not a working current code. The offer allowed one redemption per SHiFT account. See Gearbox’s promotion details.

Third-party code lists are not definitive proof that a code still works. GamesRadar’s page updated October 7, 2026 listed codes as active, while another guide reported no active Golden Key code on September 30. Those reports conflict and do not establish that a code passes Gearbox’s checker. Treat a listed code as a lead, then confirm it through the official SHiFT redemption page.
What you need before redeeming
- A free Gearbox SHiFT account, created with an email address or a first-party account.
- The platform account you use to play Borderlands 4 linked to your SHiFT account.
- A copy of Borderlands 4 to redeem and collect the reward.
- A code that is valid for Borderlands 4 and has not expired or already been used on that SHiFT account.
Gearbox says codes can be game-specific and are redeemable once per SHiFT account. A code for another Borderlands game may not work in Borderlands 4. Gearbox’s SHiFT account guidance covers account and linking requirements.

How to redeem a Borderlands 4 SHiFT code
Redeem on the SHiFT website
- Sign in to your SHiFT account and make sure your Borderlands 4 platform account is linked.
- Open Rewards, then go to Code Redemption.
- Enter the code. If prompted, choose the game and platform supported by the checker, then confirm the claim.
- Look for the success confirmation, then launch or return to Borderlands 4 to collect the reward.
Gearbox’s checker identifies the game and platform combinations accepted for a code. Its redemption instructions also explain that a mistyped or inactive code returns an error.
Redeem in Borderlands 4
- Open the game’s Main Menu.
- Select SHiFT, then Rewards.
- Enter the code and submit it.
- Return to the game and collect the reward.
The in-game route is documented in Gearbox’s Borderlands 4 SHiFT instructions. Both routes require a valid code and the correct linked account.

What a Golden Key gives you
A Golden Key is an in-game reward used to open a Golden Chest; it is not a direct purchase or a promise of a particular item. The chest’s contents are randomized. A code only grants the reward described by its offer, subject to that offer’s terms.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why a code may not work
- It expired: A time-limited promotion stops working after its stated deadline. The March 2026 five-key offer, for example, ended April 30, 2026.
- It is for another game: Some SHiFT codes do not apply to every Borderlands title.
- It was mistyped or is inactive: Recheck the characters and submit it through the official checker.
- It has already been redeemed: Codes are limited to one redemption per SHiFT account where Gearbox states that rule.
- Your account or platform does not match: Confirm that the platform you play on is linked and that the checker lists the relevant game/platform option.
Entering an expired code on a different platform will not restore its validity. Check the promotion’s game, platform or region terms, and deadline rather than trying alternate platforms.
